BGN Demographics

Just thought this might be interesting. I often am curious (see the justin update thread)  about the people that post on BGN. Not to profile anyone based on age, race or gender but... again i just think it is interesting.

On top of that I'm going nuts waiting for another game to erase the taste of the dallas loss so it's something to kill the time.

I'll start:

I'm 25 years old, a white male, living in South Central PA and have my entire life. I'm a professional in the field in which i work, which unfortunately does not include pylons or an endzone. I am happily married to an Eagles fan. I've been on BGN since very near the beginning and chose the name 700 Level because I love the passion of the fanbase.

LOL

i heard that so many times. I seriously have the best wife though. My life is 50 times what it would be if i was still single… yeah yeah i know, the response to that is always 1) wait till you’ve married longer… i was actually barely 22 and 2) my life is over

Most people dont buy rental properties when they’re 21 either

It’s hard for me to believe you are 32! Usually 32 year olds are too busy with their family and careers. You still keep up with sports and have great knowledge about the game and its players…. like me! haha. You gotta admit it, I won the Ocho Cinco and Vernon Davis argument. Those were the only 2 times I disagreed with you.

Ugh, now i feel like an immature douche. Haha, just kidding. I’m in sales in the Wall Street world, and not to sound like a conceded jerk, but I’m good – And when you’re good in sales (particularly in the financial world), you can get away with working like 20 hours per week. Could I put in 40-50 and really kill it? Yeah, probably. But that would mean no BGN, no online Monopoly, no conceiving extremely elaborate pranks on friends, etc, etc.

Not now...

turned 17 6 days ago (11/4 to be precise). Live 1 hr. south of State College in the ghost town they call Altoona. Junior in High School. My school’s football team is a joke. I live in Steeler Country and my dad is a psycho Steeler fan. Reggie White was the man that brought me into football (yes I used to be a Packer fan because of him. I was 5 at the time and didn’t know how great it was to be an Eagles fan then) Hated football from 2000-2003 (artist phase), then I saw 4th and 26. The rest is history.

Born and raised in Philly and spent many a game at the Vet. When I was in high school, I could get into Phillies games for $1 by saying that I was 13.

Temple MBA, with my undergrad at the one and only Beaver College (now Arcadia). Spent 7 years in the Army, and settled in DC after I came back from Iraq and left active duty.

I have my own REP system, like XBOX has.

I give some posters a shot, read their oppinion. If it sucks, they get a low score on my book. I just stop reading their post, I scroll down and look for people I know, like you (Dawk, Joe, Clyde, Leone, NPK, Whodie, Foos05, Eaglesgl, 700, route36, Jalarsen, Hank, etc…) I think a good handle name is important, makes it easier to remember the blogger. Also a nice Avatar helps a little. But when people go by cb28023 or some other random handle, I can’t remember that and wont follow their ideas. I tend to skip them, and go to those I know. Its like my own personal mental spam filter.

I actually remember the fog bowl, and when Cunningham had his ACL torn by Bryce Paup. I remember when a Punter named Tom Tupa was filling in for the Arizona QB, and beat the Eagles, mostly due to a James Joseph run that was stoped centimeters from the goal line.

I remember Wes Hopkins and the body bag game. I guess I’m a old head. Sucks. Good to have some young talent around here.

I’m a Blue Jay too. 3 years in Founders, 1 year in the quads.

Oh yeah?

Nice! I spent 1 year in Founders, 1 year in Royer, and 2 years off campus. What year did you graduate?

by Scotty Laf on Nov 13, 2009 8:21 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

’99.

There’s been a lot of changes since then. “Back in the old days” Royer was all girls, Brinser was all guys, and they’ve updated a lot of the buildings.

TJ Rockwell’s is still there, though, and that’s the important part.

by BrianS on Nov 13, 2009 11:57 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah they have made a lot of changes

and the campus was looking really nice the last time I was up there. Brand new business building, new student center, and new athletic building. Royer is mixed gender now, and Brinser is all girls. They started lettinga good number of people move off-campus in 2004, which I took advantage of.
And yes, Rockwells is still there and going strong from what I hear. Other bars in town haven’t stood the test of time, but TJs is good and will be around for a while I am sure.

by Scotty Laf on Nov 13, 2009 2:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Brinser all girls….wow. That’s amazing. They must have really fixed it up because it was a foul dirty shithole in 95-99.

I think campus still looks nice, and the facilities themselves are much nicer, but some of my classmates think they’ve ruined the ambiance that we liked about it in the first place. But, I was back visiting in April with a friend from France who lived on my hall Freshman year, and walking from Founders down toward Myer, which was where the cafeteria used to be, it seemed like nothing had changed. Very weird feeling.

I usually go back at homecoming and hang out at Alumni house and visit my old department, but this was the first time since graduation where I’d just walked around on a quiet regular day and not part of a big (well, for Etown) event.

The Blue Terrapin, my other old hangout, is long gone but Rockwell’s will outlast the college and probably eventually take over the town.

by BrianS on Nov 13, 2009 3:28 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

*Schlosser, not Brinser

My bad on that. Brinser is still coed, but Schlosser is all girls, as is Myer.

Yeah I think they did a good job of keeping all the buildings brick which really helps maintain that ambiance that you’re talking about. I haven’t been up to campus in about 2 years so I am sure there have been other changes that I haven’t seen yet, either.

Either way, glad to see another E-towner on here. Take it easy, man.

Off topic...

With my Jamaica wedding approaching, and my undying love for the Eagles…i thought it would be cool to combine the 2. A lot of my guests are from Philly, so i told them to bring an eagles hat or shirt. Then, while i was in Philly for the Tampa Bay game, i bought 15 of those cheapy Eagles hats from the dudes in the parking lot. I am going to give those out to the pool bartenders, the waitstaff, and the other people that are around during the day. It should hopefully work out to be pretty cool pictures! I plan to post a ton of them when i get back!!

Got married a month ago in North Jersey – The bride’s side was all Giants fans.

Anyway, I had a “Philly station” at the cocktail hour. It had cheesesteaks, soft pretzels, Italian water ice, pork roll and cheese, and other Philly foods, as well as Eagles, Phillies, Sixers, and Flyers paraphernalia, and a “Love Park” ice sculpture.

it was a HUUUUUGE hit. I’ll see if I can find a pic.

That sounds awesome. I did a vow renewal in Jamaica at the end of ‘06. We didn’t invite anyone down with us, but there was a huge contingent of Eagles fans there for two other weddings. It was 2 days after the Christmas game against Dallas, and while Jamaica was the last place I expected people I didn’t know to be yelling at me to sing the fight song, I was happy to oblige.

56 ....Damn! I guess this will have to be my last post.

Although I look forward to the great posts and banter on this site, it looks like (as the oldest one here) it’s about time for me to retire. Reading some of these “profiles” makes it easier to understand where you all have come from in your comments. Most of you can barely remember the Eagles before the Andy and Donovan era.

If you havent guessed by now, my handle is where I lived early in life (the 50’s). 17th and Shunk is just a few blocks north of the current stadium complex. My first recollection of Eagle fandom was in the early 60’s when I lived in South Jersey and used to hang out with Pete Retzlaff’s kids. So, as a “bleeding green” eagles fan for over 45 years, I’ve seen it all. As frustrating as the team has been in the Big Red era, you younger guys should enjoy this time. Trust me, it could be alot worse.

As for this site, I think it’s great and love to read the comments and opinions. As a younger fan, I would have loved to have this opportunity to read so much about my Eagles. Try to imagine a time, where all you could look forward to was a column or two in the daily paper (in season only) and 20 seconds in the sports segment of the evening news on TV. No internet, No sportschannels on cable (no cable), couldn’t even text a fellow fan during the game and “bitch” about it.

Keep up the passion.

From another 50+

We would have to buy bubble gum cards to get our favorite player’s stats. You couldn’t look it up on the internet. The gum that came with the cards tasted like wax and shredded the roof of your mouth as you tried to masticate it, but you always ate the gum anyway.

The cool thing about those days is that the players all needed off season jobs to supplement their meager football wages. You could always find a few in the neighborhood. A couple of the old Eagle linemen (names long forgotten) would unload produce at the local A&P near my house.

I'm not 50, but I know that bad gum.

That stuff crumbled like it was made from thin pieces of dry clay. That gum sucked, and had that dry powder that made it even worst. You could not blow bubble with that stuff, you would barely chew that garbage. The best part was the leftover gum powder that would lightly dust the cards. That small is so memorable.

yeah, they had the same gum in the baseball card packs i used to get when i was a kid. I just thought it was stale by how hard that shit was… still chewed it though

I loved that gum

my chiseled jaw is still indebted to the workout it got from chewing it

Props...I bow to the 60!

So Eagle Ed, do ya think we’ll get to see another championship soon? I’d hate to think these “kids” would have to wait ‘til they’re our age to see one.

I think they're going to win it every year!!!

I hope they win one soon, I feel like i’m starting to run out of chances!!!!

by EagleEd on Nov 13, 2009 7:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

we're running out of chances with McNabb

but I think Reid and Joe Banner have a done a great job with the turnover on this team so that we don’t deal harshly with growing pains. Our team now is VERY young…in all reality Donovan and Westy are really the only two guys in the twilight of their Eagles careers that have major roles.

While Westy is the best thing we have, and we need him to get well…I think Donovan is replaceable. In fact, I don’t think our record would look any different whether Kolb or McNabb were under center for the rest of the year.

Nah, we refer to St. Joe’s Prep (17th and W Girard) simply as “The Prep” because it was the first college prep school in the city.

I figured if anybody here actually went there they’d recognize the name. Sorry bout that.

A little late but..

38, currently living in Reno, NV. Married with 3 kids. Originally from Philly and moved away when I was 7. My father still lives in the area along with a ton of extended family. I have visited at least once a year since I moved away and almost always attend a game when I am home. Have moved all around the country and can honestly say that there is not one city that has the same passion for any of its teams as Philly does for the Birds. It isn’t even close.

37, married for 10 years with a 3 yr old son. Always flirted with sports fandom but became diehard when reality TV came along and destroyed TV programming. Female but swear like a sailor. Raised in Central PA, which is Stillers country. I never could hang with those fans and never understood why until I moved east. Eagles fans were kindred spirits.

Grew up in North Philthy, went away to PSU on the five year plan, moved back to work. Been a Birds fan ever since my older brother taught me the basics of the game while watching the Eagles win 29-19 in November 1995 because I was bothering him by trying to get him to play Barbies with me.

Some of us recall Matt Bryant in a little more favorable situation when he missed an end of game FG (I think there was a problem with long-snapping/holding too) in that playoff game where the Giants choked away a big lead to the Niners. Of curse, we went on to lose to, of course, Tampa.

So F Tampa, basically. That is all.
