Mea Culpas?

So Donovan played manball today and made throws that puts the inept, incompetent and impotent to shame. His incredibly manly performance made ShEli look uber-feminine and effectively skewered any hopes Kolb has of seeing the field in the next 3-5 years. Donovan hit D-Jax on some big time throws, made Maclin look all-world and gave Celek some piping hot spirals to snack on all game. It is time for you, the unbeliever, to make amends for your transgressions. Gentlemen, start your apologies.

He made throws a starting QB was supposed to make
Whats their to apologize for? Having 1 good game against a horrible defense?

Horrible defense
I know. Horrible defense. It’s not like they lead the league in YPG (262 ypg) or are second in passing D (158 ypg).
Granted these numbers are inflated by the cupcakes that the giants have played, but please do even a modicum of research to back up your points.

Have you seen the Giants the past 3 weeks?
How about you actually watch the games instead of read a couple of stats.

noticed that I prefaced my comments
Pointing out the strength of schedule.
Fine, they’re not a number one defense, or even a top 5 defense. Hell, let’s not even call them a top 10 defense. Lets dock them 10 spots and put them at number 11. This isn’t Tampa, this isn’t the Lions, this isn’t St Louis. It’s still a solid defense with an excellent line and linebacking corps that is capable of giving any team fits.
McNabb still averaged 10 YPA, and still hit 70% of his passes. That’s a good day against the Lions, let alone the Giants.

O
YOu just lost a LOT of points by calling their LB corps excellent. It’s the worst corps in the league. Pierce is OLD and slow, and the other two wouldnt start on any other team.

I really don't know how the hell the Giants D was ranked where it was
coming into this game.
Not taking anything away from the Eagles O, but the Giants D right now is useless. The Giants D right now is in the same category as the Lions, Tampa and Rams.
The Giants D right now, flat out sucks.
and yea, Joe is right. Its funny how people still think the defensive line is the best in the game…they’re not.
The LB crew, Antonio Pierce is the fastest and strongest in the starting unit right now. I don’t think I need to explain further (Pierce is a good MLB by the way, just athletically he’s probably shot.

Donovan had two bad games. Most of the “doubters” said if this trend continued it may be time for Kolb. Since he turned it around, every eagles fan is happy, and McNabb remains the better option. Just because he snapped out of his slump does not mean that the gripes of the “doubters” were unjustified.

Thank You
I’m labeled a ‘doubter’, but I just want to be successful! McNabb was great today, it doesn’t mean that he was great for the last 2 weeks…but he was great today!

Great Post.
All the doubters/haterz will now come on here and try and justify there stupidity……lets start a player who has a win over kc over one that has led is to the sb good call…..smh

yes
ignore mcnabb’s faults from here to eternity! Forget his awful outings! Forget it! We must support McNabb forever!!!!!!!!!
and by the way, I don’t really like pointing out grammar, but the irony is just over the top…
justify there stupidity
by eagleyosh on Nov 1, 2009 6:03 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
I'm certainly not suggesting
That you ignore his faults. He played poorly the last two games before this one. I have no problem with people who point out that McNabb played poorly against the Raiders, because he did. I too was frustrated and worried by his Monday Night performance. I yelled at the screen.
But when he posts a nearly perfect QB rating, it kind of gets tiring to hear luke warm responses. Criticize when it is warranted, enjoy the good times when they come, but don’t harp on the negatives because they, in some convoluted way, prove you correct.

why
is everyone stuck in such duality? Why does it have to be all positive and no negative? Why do you think if we had a problem with a few plays that we had the problem with the whole game and did’t enjoy it? WTF!

“Why is everyone stuck in such duality? Why does it have to be all positive and no negative?” – This kind’ve works both ways. You slam McNabb for terrible throws, but when he has a great game, “he made throws a starting QB was supposed to make.” Can’t you give him props for doing well when he does well and grill him for when he doesn’t do well? He’s had great games against bad defenses, and today he played well against a good defense.
Smack it up, flip it, rub it down... OH NOOOooo!

+1
people act as it you either you have to love him unconditionally, or hate him.
I love success, he played well today, GREAT! I’m happy!
That doesn’t mean we were good the last 2 weeks.

I enjoyed the game
He played great today….day’s like today show that he is still our best option. My annoyance is that someone who points out McNabb’s faults is automatically a “hater”. It’s ridiculous. The man is no wheres near infallible. I’m not saying he sucks, but after two bad games in a row, doubting him is the appropriate response.
People seem to lose sight of being eagles fans, not McNabb fans. I love eagles players, but if they’re not playing up to the level they should be, I don’t see why we won’t call them out, or if we do, we’re “haters”. Aren’t we the fans that don’t hesitate to boo when our team plays like trash? Again, he played great today and I hope it continues, but everyone who says that those who doubt mcnabb are “haters” and are going to try to “justify their stupidity” now that he had one good game are really off the mark.

I have no problems with people pointing out some of the problems. You want to point out that the line play was still dodgy, and that Jason Peters looked sketchy? Fine. You want to point out that other than his long run, Shady had a bad game? Fine.
But when you start nitpicking his frickin TD passes (there are three to choose from after all) and start grasping at straws so you don’t have to eat crow that it becomes obnoxious. Every QB has 4-5 completions per game that could have been better, could have been TDs. The fact that you focus on these passes, is what infuriates people.
As for the Giants linebacking corps (I meant to write that the line was excellent but that the linebackers were decent. But i didn’t so -1 on me or whatever you want to dock my “score”) I took a second look, and I will agree it’s kind of dismal. But to call it the worst in the league is way overstating your case. Still, I was wrong on that one.

*bless me evillbanner, for i have sinned*
….and will continue to do so. I support THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES, not DONOVAN MCNABB, not KEVIN KOLB…not any individual player. THE TEAM…and if DMAC is makin shitty throw after shitty throw…yeah im gonna want KOLB! but if Donovans DOING HIS JOB…than yeah im happy. That being said…..GO KEVIN KOLB HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

I never mess with DMac but ya’ll have to give him props for getting rid of the ball much faster today. Lets hope he keeps it up.
by topcat6 on Nov 1, 2009 6:59 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I love DMac
Cheered his selection and thought the booers were idiots (many bad teams have great running backs, but you need a QB to be a winning franchise). Loved watching him progress over the years and pull out amazing plays. Loved watching him pull out a late comeback all by himself. Then I felt he hit a wall. Never learned clock management, Never seemed to use a pump fake, held the ball forever, would take a sack over throwing the ball away, would refuse to run three lousy yards for a first down when it was WIDE open in order to ‘prove’ he was a pocket passer and would then prove it by throwing it in the dirt, Would seemingly refuse to even throw the damn ball unless a guy had a 5 yd cushion until the fourth quarter, but drops would lead to losses or whatever, injuries injuries injuries, and then massive slumps, trying to shuck it all off with a smile when you just wanted him to get REAL MAD, SERIOUS AND FOCUSED.
and I am excited by the prospect of what Kolb could do in this offense. But Donny has turned it around EVERY time. He continues to come through when things look bleak.
And he was GREAT today.
But the real props should go to whoever lit the fire under this team’s ass. ‘Cause they do not prepare like that every week, yet they get paid to do so. I’ll try to remember I said that next time I slack at work. Which of course is never…
Great Great Win Today.
Keep it Rolling Phillies.

max protect
The offensive line protected McNabb better today than they did in the last two games, with some help from the coaching staff keeping guys in to block and mixing in more running plays to keep the Giants D honest. What’s so hard to understand – when McNabb gets hit and chipped on every play then he looks like an ordinary QB, just like every other QB in the league is susceptible to pressure. But… When they keep McNabb clean then he excels.
I just can’t agree that McNabb was in a slump so much as he needed better protection. He has faults, yes, of course, but pressure magnifies them.
by Midnite Green on Nov 1, 2009 7:30 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Okay this is getting ridiculous … if people think McNabb is bad let them argue it and prove it. He’s had good games and bad games this year so he is making it pretty easy to argue for both sides.
Here’s the thing we know McNabb can be great we also know he can shit the bed. I’m not going to give up on him for that but some might. Can we stop bitching about who was right each time he has an up or down day?
I don’t really give a fuck if you doubt McNabb or not, if you can prove to me why. Let’s get back to talking football and let’s get back to talking Eagles and stop this fucking petty bullshit.

Where's Evilbanner's mea culpa?
As THE resident front office/Andy Reid hater of this blog, how bout YOU giving a little credit where credit is due. After all, if it wasn’t for Reid and the FO, Donovan wouldn’t have the stellar supporting cast he has this year!

YEAH... that'll bring it two a grand total of 2 years out 10 that they've done that for him..
Joe D is proof that there is literally nothing that McNabb can do, win lose or draw, that will appease a true DMac hater. If he’s bad he’s the worst! and if he’s great he aint that great! smh.

Exactly
Yes. I apologize for 20%. That’s 2 out of the 10 years the front office decide to give Donovan something better than James Trash, Todd Stinkston, Charles Johnson, Reggie (and Na) Brown, Torrance Small, Freddie Mitchell, Tony Stewart (no, not the Nascar driver), etc. And DESPITE all of this, Donovan STILL is 82-45, has thrown for over 30,000 yards, has taken us to numerous NFC championship games, and has thrown for 203 career touchdowns. No thanks to Andy Reid.
