Whats not to like?
Heya guys. Haven't been on here in a while. Been pretty busy with my schoolwork and all.....though i did watch the game today, all of it. I don't think i need to say anything about this game because it was pretty much an outstanding performance by both the Eagles offense and defense. A closer look....
Offense:
I thought that the offense was astounding, and came up with a lot of big plays. Donovan actually had some very good passes, and actually hit some receivers in stride as well. Very pleased with him. Lesean also came out and performed, especially on that nice 66-yard touchdown run. However, i have to give my main props to Weaver. He jump-started our offense and got us rolling into a rhythm which was crucial for us. That 41-yard run was very nice as well. Desean, Maclin, and Celek also performed well as did various other members of the Eagles offense. Overall, I think that the Eagles came out and performed the way they should especially against a team like the Giants.
Grade: A- (only because of a few sacks and that ugly fumble-would-have-been-a-touchdown-but-we-got-lucky, otherwise, it was all good)
Defense:
I think that this was the area where we really shined. Asante made a nice play at the beginning of the game with an interception that helped us set up a Celek touchdown. Demps actually had our other interception for the game which made me almost scream OMFGWTFQUINTENDEMPSGOTANINTERCEPTION but thankfully I didn't. Defense also made some nice stops against the Giants as well, particularly on those 4th down plays. Very nice job overall by the defense, can't really think of any other specific person right now on the defense that just plain excelled. Well, Sheldon Brown did. Very nice job. As I'm sure many other people have said, PAY THE MAN HIS MONEY! =)
Grade: A
P.S. Believe it or not, the pass-run ratio was actually about 50% if you can believe it. 24 rushing plays and 25 passing plays. Very nice play-calling by Reid and Marty.
Stars of the Game-
Offense - Desean Jackson, Donovan McNabb, Brent Celek, Jeremy Maclin, Leonard Weaver...
Defense - Whole unit overall excellent job =D

They could’ve gotten away with 100% passes out there today. They hardly put up a fight.

Amen!
My friend from up in Seattle told me in the off season that, as Eagles fans, we’d love “Church Bus” (his nickname in Seattle… He’s a bible thumper and he runs like a bus). It’s weird to see how the game plan opens up when Westy is out. I think Andy relies too much on a heavy dose of Westbrook when he is healthy, rather than spreading the ball around. I hope today showed Andy that Weaver can be a regular contributor to the offense, even if it’s just to block.

No homo not needed.
The way he played, it could be homo. Hell, it could be “lets move to Massachutsets and get a civil union.” Weaver is a man’s man along with Brent “The Lumberjack” Celek.

He’s has the fourth more receiving yards in the league, and most in the NFC. Celek isn’t just a “dime in a dozen”.
like MJG n justice
Why would we resign a backup guard (who isn’t even our best backup) over Celek?

He said Celek is doing better than TO.
As in, this season.
Owens: 23 catches, 281 yards, 1 TD
Celek: 37 catches, 447 yards, 3 TDs.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.

I was talking about locking up Weaver
but Celek is gonna get his money. And JIBTA, MJG has sucked, I mean totally, and utterly sucked in his limited time this year. He was one of the single reasons that we lost against the Raiders. Dude is pathetic…

o bs
he is a monster .. better than cole ..and would start for a lot of teams .. and i love weaver .. i want him to say ..celek i dont care about .. we can draft any te and he can give us celek production .. hes a product of mcnabb an the offense .. just like chad lewis

MJG is an animal, i agree he needs to be signed long term despite some poor efforts this season.
BUT, you gotta give celek his props, he’s doing an awesome job.

mjg is one dumb guy...
i met him at the annual rookie symposium at la costa the year he was drafted… while it doesn’t take an einstein to play guard in the nfl… this guy is a dim bulb… but who cares if he can block?on the subject of tight ends… they are not exactly rarities but that said, celek is a very nice player… he’s got the skills and the smarts… and the character… you can never have too many good players… to change the subject slightly how come when mcnabb looks bad (all too oftern), his apologists always blame it on his poor receivers, but when he looks good its the receivers who are a dime a dozen?

Really … like who? he leads our team in receptions, second in yards and second in TDs. I know there are better TEs right now in the league but this kid is 24 in his third year let’s not be ridiculous here. He’s better than your boy Pettigrew and they are the same age.

first off shitty teams don’t hold down good players … see Calvin Johnson last year 1300+ yards and 12 TDs on a 0-16 team. Second Pettigrews numbers should be inflated young QBs tend to rely on the TE more than others. Third, they are the same age and Celek is in his 3rd year in the NFL that should tell you something … Fourth Celek is good man if you can’t see that you must be using a braille keyboard.

It was more 60/40 pass/run
we started running more at the END of the game when we were UP a lot of points… The difference was the players were executing today. Good game by all.

It was also just not a predictable offensive performance.
Not necessarily the ratio, but the mix.
Thanks to Weaver and Celek for bringing their positions back to our offense.
Thanks to AR/MM for fucking running the ball 3 straight plays to open and for once establish some physical dominance and not playing to our opponents strength. It’s like we finally learned that fast Defenses Like It when you try to run away from them and guys like Osi aren’t as effective when you run at them.
I think Jason Peters may have Split-Personality Disorder. He can look like a Dominating Physical Freak of Nature one second and then just a lost guy asking directions to the stadium the next. Crazy.

Anyone else notice...
Stacy Andrews playing pretty well today? I know he had a false start, but he dominated on a couple runs, particularly the Weaver TD.
by birds'n'raiders on Nov 1, 2009 6:36 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Stacy did do well.
1 false start isnt bad but if it become Chronic we have to take care of it… And it cannot happen at a terrible time…
Stacy needs to be the RG from now on.. MJG is most definantly not back 100% from his ankle injury.

Yeah.
The O line is struggling for consistency but you can see the talent is there. They are developing that nasty attitude that Runyan always had. You can see it in their eyes. They could be scary good by the end of the year with a little luck.

What i really loved today was how we answered right back after the giants scored. when boss caught the td, we got two touchdowns in a matter of minutes. then when they cut it to 33-17, mccoy got the long run for the td.

but!!!!!!!!!!!
I know i’m never happy with the eagles… as much as i enjoyed the game, it still worries me that time of possession continues to be so lopsided!!! if the eagles let dallas (or any top team) convert third downs like the giants did it will be a long day on sunday…I did like seeing the eagles pound the line with weaver… there’s nothing like a power running game to keep a defense on it’s a**… i’d like to see more running of mccoy (and westbrook) to the outside… i’d also like to see them go to avant and celek on 1st/2nd downs more often…. and what about alex smith??? i was under the impression he’s a good tight end… i have to believe he’d be wide open… since celek has emerged as receiving threat… finnally, it was good to see mcnabb have a good game… as much as i think he’s a bonehead loser, he’s still a decent person and a gutsy player… i just wish the eagles had a real qb… one who can consistently lead sustained drives… go phils!!!!
by toofunny777 on Nov 2, 2009 3:38 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
The time of possession thing isn't really a concern when they score every time they have the ball.
It’s one thing to have a low TOP because of 3 and outs. It’s an entirely different (and perfectly fine) thing to have low TOP because it only takes the offense 3 or 4 plays to score a TD. Most teams can’t keep up with that kind of pace, so all the sustained drives in the world won’t help them when we are striking like we did yesterday.
by NOLACuse on Nov 2, 2009 3:44 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
maybe you're right...
but you can’t count on striking in three or four plays consistently… against the raiders, the eagles couldn’t manage to strike… and, well we all know what a disaster that was….anyway… in my opinion they need to be able to pound it out as well… the thing is they can… if the attack is balanced, they will be tough to beat… too much reliance on 3 plays to score and they’ll get the crap beat out of them too often…. pleeeze go phils!!!!!
