Williams.... so far

I had to make this a Fan Post just because... Well because it needed to be done.

There was a lot of jawing back and forth this past off-season about the numbers that Roy E. Williams of the Cowboys would have this year.  (JIBTA swore he would be a stud)

After 4 games he has 11 catches for 214yrds. and 1 touchdown.

When divided down and multiplied by 16 he would average

44 catches for 856 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Hardly Elite.

I am soooo glad the Cowboys mortgaged thier future on this guy.

They even took him out at the end of the game yesterday.

...and to think we spent a 2nd on a little punk from a no name school....

I would hardly call Cal a no-name school. Def not elite, but not a no-name either.

more reaching for a word to make the story sound dramatic than anything else.

Its not USC or the U but they have put out a good # of top level players… Lynch, Mack, Rodgers, Asomugha, and Jahvid Best joining them next year

Here's the funny thing about Roy Williams...

His production so far this season shouldn’t come as much of a surprise…

As you noted above… His season totals through 4 games are…

11 catches, 214 yards, 1 TD.

On a “per game” basis, that’s… 2.75 catches, 53.5 yards, 0.25 TD

OK, now here are his career stats through 74 games…

292 catches, 4,296 yards, 31 TD

On a “per game” basis, that’s… 3.94 catches, 58.05 yards, 0.41 TD

Not sure what people ever saw in him aside from ONE good season, but this is basically what I expected out of him so far.

Bye, Big Stew and JJ :(

To play devil's advocate..

I don’t really remember last year but romo has played like ass so far this season. Always overthrowing and sending it behind receivers. He last almost uncatchable throw led to RW getting fucking demolished and sidelined with miraculously unbroken ribs. When your two teams are the lions who are complete ass and have calvin johnson to compete with and the ’boys with romo throwing you the ball…

I just think now that opposing defenses don’t have to respect TO AND Witten, they do a much better job of defending the pass. Oh, and the fact that Romo isn’t THAT great. We’ll see if someone can step up on the WR front for the Cowboys because with their line being as old as it is, and their lack of weapons at WR, they could be really hurting for a few years on offense if they mess up one more draft.

But their run game is good. They just need o-line help and one respectable WR to be threatening again. As I see it now, I think the Cowboys are as bad as they’ve looked recently.

Let’s hope so, at least. You might have meant to add a “not” in there, but I’m gonna go with the actual comment you made.

For as much shit as we've talked on their Oline

They can really open up holes for the run. Although they do have one hell of a three headed monster in felix jones, tashard choice, and marion barber.

by Bo Jangles on Oct 5, 2009 5:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh yeah, no question about that. Felix is out right now, though, and Barber has become more and more injury-prone over the course of the last two years. Their running game is sweet when healthy, but as of this very moment its handcuffed.

I said this back when everyone wanted Roy Williams here. This year is not out of the ordinary for him. This is what he normally does. The big pro bowl year was the statistical outlier.

by JasonB on Oct 5, 2009 7:23 PM EDT reply actions

exactly

roy williams has been overated his entire nfl career. he’s been given the benefit of the doubt because he played for the lions. it’s becoming increasingly obvious that he truly isn’t an elite reciever by any means.
