Live Gameday NFC East Rival Tracker

As discussed in a previous post about the Bye Week, it was determined that part of the Eagles’ focus on their off time this weekend would be on their NFC East rivals and their respected games. Because the performances of the Eagles’ combatants are an important thing to keep an eye on, especially this week when the Eagles do not participate in a game, we decided to incorporate a live “tracker” of the Birds’ competitors and their games for today. Below you will find a compilation of live updates that were posted throughout the afternoon and evening regarding the status of the NFC East teams:

  • 12:59 p.m. ET: The New York Giants will face the lowly Kansas City Chiefs at 1 p.m. ET, while the Washington Redskins will take on the Buccaneers, and later in the day the Dallas Cowboys will match up with the Denver Broncos. More in-depth previews of these games can be seen by clicking here.
  • 1:30 p.m. ET: Both the Giants and Redskins have early leads against their respective opponents.
  • 2:17 p.m. ET: Chiefs are playing a passionate game against the Giants, but have made too many mistakes and already seem to be on track toa loss. As for the Bucs-‘Skins matchup, Tampa Bay leads this one by a score of 10-0.
  • 3:30 p.m. ET: Redskins overcome a 10-point deficit to take a 16-10 lead as a result of a great 59-yard TD pass.
  • 3:41 p.m. ET: The New York Giants-Kansas City Chiefs matchup is wrapping up, with the G-Men leading by a bunch, as expected. NYG-27 KC-9
  • 3:47 p.m. ET: Can Kansas City actually upset New York? They are threatening to score with a little over 6 minutes to go in the game, and the scoreboard currently reads: NYG-27 KC-9
  • 3:50 p.m. ET: Tampa Bay is unable to come back after surrendering their lead earlier in the game, and the Redskins capture a much-needed 16-13 victory.
  • 3:55 p.m. ET: Chiefs cap off an amazing drive with a heart-pounding 4th-down TD throw, and minimize the Giants‘ lead to 11 points.
  • 4:04 p.m. ET: Kansas City is attempting to make a dramatic comeback and upset the Giants, but it's not looking very promising at the moment. They've just turned the ball over, and there remains only a little over 2 minutes to go in the contest.
  • 4:08 p.m. ET: Now that New York has basically secured a victory and the Redskins also won this afternoon, let's briefly focus on the Cowboys' matchup. They will take on the undefeated Broncos momentarily, and we will perhaps be shown the true identity of Dallas today...they've been inconsistent so far but have a lot of potential. It'll be interesting to see how they perform against the Broncos, who, by the way, have a former Eagle in their secondary--the great Brian Dawkins.
  • 4:15 p.m. ET: The Giants have now officially dropped the Chiefs to 0-4, and have improved their record to 4-0, as the clock expires and the game concludes. Not a big surprise here.
  • 4:16 p.m. ET: The Dallas Cowboys are about to face the Denver Broncos. We should be in for a good game, as both teams look to prove they are true contenders in the NFC. Denver is 3-0, but has frequently been questioned, as they've faced primarily weak opponents, while the Cowboys have been struggling with consistency all year.
  • 4:34 p.m. ET: The Broncos' defense is pressuring QB Tony Romo and the Dallas offense very well.
  • 4:40 p.m. ET: Cowboys get on the board first, converting on a 49-yard field goal try, and taking an early 3-0 lead.
  • 4:53 p.m. ET: To the despair of the Broncos and their defensive unit, the Cowboys strike again, scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run by RB Marion Barber. DAL-10 DEN-0
  • 5:10 p.m. ET: QB Kyle Orton completes a 7-yard TD pass to RB Knowshon Moreno, drawing the Cowboys' lead from 10-0 to 10-7.
  • 5:15 p.m. ET: Broncos' Safety Brian Dawkins (extremely well-known to us Eagles fans) reportedly gives Denver's defensive unit a pep talk, and they're indeed looking better, containing Dallas' explosive offense. Well done, Brian. You led these kinds of motivating talks when you were an Eagle, and I'm glad you're still doing it with success.
  • 5:48 p.m. ET: Halftime in Denver. Dallas finds itself ahead by a field goal, but the Broncos aren't lurking far behind. A great second half should be in store. It'd be nice if the Cowboys fall, for then at least one NFC East rival would have lost while the Eagles have off.
  • 6:13 p.m. ET: As the Denver defense continues to shut down the Cowboys' offensive attack, I have to make mention of Broncos' starting DE Elvis Dumervil. With his recent sack of Tony Romo, he now has 8 on the year, and we're only 4 games into the season. That is extremely impressive, and I felt it absolutely necessary to credit Dumervil for his immense efforts.
  • 6:18 p.m. ET: Key players injured on both sides..,OLB DeMarcus Ware for the Cowboys and RB Correll Buckhalter for the Broncos. Ware has been one of the best defensive players for Dallas, while Buckhalter, a former Eagle, has led the Broncos in rushing
  • 6:32 p.m. ET: Both teams' defenses are playing solid, and the score of the Dallas Cowboys-Denver Broncos matchup remains 10-7, in favor of Dallas.
  • 7:00 p.m. ET: With a 28-yard field goal, the Broncos tie the game. DAL-10 DEN-10.
  • 7:10 p.m. ET: Denver takes the lead with an amazing 51-yard TD pass from Kyle Orton to Brandon Marshall! Dallas is now faced with a 7-point deficit with less than 2 minutes to go in the game. Great news, Eagles fans!
  • 7:25 p.m. ET: After stopping the Cowboys near the goal-line, Denver comes away with a 17-10 victory, dropping the Cowboys to a 2-2 record and below the Eagles in the division.
