Late games open thread

The early games of the Eagles bye week are in the bag, so here's place to discuss the 4pm(and later) contests. Actually, these 4pm games should be pretty good.

Bills at Dolphins, Jets at Saints, St. Louis at San Fran, and the game that will most interest Eagles fans the Cowboys on the road to face the Broncos. Go Dawk!

Later, the Steelers try to keep it classy against the Chargers.

Also, what did you think of the NFL Red Zone channel on Comcast?

i loved buck, but...

you can’t ask for more than mccoy has given in his role so far.
vs panthers : 9 carries, 46 yards (5ish ypc)
vs saints: 5 carries, 18 yards (3.5ish ypc…not great)
vs chiefs: 20 carries, 84 yards, 1 td (over 4 ypc)

that’s a pretty good start. I don’t think buck would get us much better. I did love that guy though

Ignore the Denver offense and the whole ‘orton isn’t good enough’

The defense has given up 24 or 26 (Fox said 26) points over 4 games (for the math challenged, that’s last than a touchdown a game)

Speaking of FOX

Soo, I looked to next week’s game using my guide…and guess what I don’t see?

An Eagles game. It’s already Week 5, and I’ve yet to see a single Eagles game on TV. So, what gives? Is FOX and CBS protesting the Eagles and Redskins (who also get no love…although, losing to the Lions and barely beating the Bucs really shouldn’t garner ANY love).

Any way of me somehow sharing my hate to the FOX execs…or whoever? Because..I’m really pissed off.

by LegendKnight22 on Oct 4, 2009 7:56 PM EDT reply actions

I really don’t think there’s any ‘hatred’ – they like to take the best H2H matchups for national games – with national interest – Panthers, Saints not exactly huge national draws compared to what the other games were.

It also depends on what market you are in and what other teams are available…being on the west coast chargers/49ers/rams/raiders and the NFC West / AFC west tend to get preference where I am. For instance today even though my guide said cowboys broncs i got 49ers/Rams…which i just turned off

Don't frack with me or you'll get a punch in the kidneys...you've been warned

by jemagee on Oct 4, 2009 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm living in NY

You would think they’d show an NFC East game if a Giants game isn’t showing (like 2 weeks ago against the Saints and next week).

And another thing- I’d understand if they were gonna show a good game. But, they don’t. In fact, they show movies.

by LegendKnight22 on Oct 4, 2009 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Wouldn’t that have to do with the Jets game being on CBS?

Don't frack with me or you'll get a punch in the kidneys...you've been warned

by jemagee on Oct 4, 2009 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, CBS usually never shows Eagles game, since they're more of an AFC channel

I’m mostly talking about FOX. CBS at least both promises a double header, and shows them both. FOX, ever week, has been promoting their double header, etc. Then when the day comes, they only show one- usually a Giants game, or if their not playing, some terrible game that most people wouldn’t give a rat’s ass about (Bucs and Bills…seriously?)

by LegendKnight22 on Oct 4, 2009 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t know much about the NYC market but I expect the Jets being on gets in the way…for instance today FOX had the double header but I expect in NY they blacked it because a movie would draw more because of the Jets?

There’s usually reasoning and rules behind it and remember they don’t care so much about what airs they just care about getting what they think is the maximum possible viewership n the time slot

Don't frack with me or you'll get a punch in the kidneys...you've been warned

by jemagee on Oct 4, 2009 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions

That's the thing

Since when do the Bucs and Bills get viewers? Also, they completely blacked out the Saints and Eagles game- a marquee match up between two playoff contenders.

The same during week 1- Eagles at Panthers- another great mathup.

Both brought a huge amount of viewers.

by LegendKnight22 on Oct 4, 2009 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions

I never understood it – but if they were allowed to air the game and thought it would have had good ratings – they would have aired it.

I mean Buffalo at least is in the state of New York plus they had the TO thing going…

Trust me – you get better games than i do :)

Because the cowboys are a bigger national draw (outside of Dallas) than the Eagles are (outside of Philadlephia) – trust me – i used to go to sports bars out here – the nfc east team least represented was usually the eagles.

When I say out here – i mean out here where i live – 3,000 miles from Philadelphia.

As for the cowboys being a bigger national draw – I’m sorry you don’t believe me – it’s sad and true, just like in baseball you get yankees or red sox a lot nationally because they are more popular nationwide.

New York is the kind of city that draws folks from everywhere…I wouldn’t be surprised to see a cowboys game pull bigger numbers than an eagles game as they have the ‘tony romo’ pop culture draw as well

Well, New Orleans won beating a previously undefeated Jets team which doesnt mean a whole lot but since that is the Eagles only loss this season, it might inspire a little bit of confidence in the Eagles. I had a feeling after the New Orleans game that it was in fact New Orleans being awesome as opposed to the Eagles being sucky.

The eagles rise

Since the Bucks come in for a last minute win, and the cowgirls fell to the broncos, we rise to second in the division without doing anything. Laziness conquers this time though I am bummed that their Bye week was so early although it gave McNabb a week to rest.

The Milwaukee Bucks had a last minute win? No NFL team referred to as the Bucs had a last minute win tonight…nor does ‘place’ really matter yet – the eagles will decide it themselves based on divisional games…which make up half of their last 12 games. (weird)
