My beloved Eagles

Over the past few weeks a lot of the talk around Eagles fans has been up and down. Many fans are unhappy and know that this team can play MUCH better than it has been. Overall, I'm really happy we won our first division game in a rough stretch of games coming up, but for some reason I, along with a lot of other fans im sure, continue to think about a lot of negative things that have happened so far this season.

After the Redskins game I was thinking to myself and realized that it would not be as fun as it is to be an Eagles fan if it wasn't for all of the ups and downs that come with any NFL season. Eagles fans are always considered to be among the most diehard fans of any city in the country. This post is dedicated to hearing all the stories of how us eagle faithful became so dedicated to our beloved Eagles.

I can remember it like it was yesterday. I was hanging out with my best friend who has always been a diehard eagles fan and he asked me if I wanted to come to next weeks game with him, his brother and his dad. I obviously said yes. At that time though, I would only consider myself a football fan, I loved football but never really followed one team. The game that my friend took me to was the first football game I had ever been too and I now consider myself blessed that the first game I ever attended was the 2003 divisional playoff game against the Packers that is now simply known as "4th & 26." I remember walking to my seat and being amazed by everything surrounding me. One of the things that always stuck with me after that game was how silent the stadium was when Akers was taking the kick to win the game, you could have heard someone cough from the other side of the stadium. Then suddenly the stadium erupted people hugging each other giving high fives and making the few packers fans that actually had the balls to show up to the Linc for a playoff game feel like crap. My life changed after that night and I have loved this team ever since.

I wanna hear how you guys became fans and your stories and most memorable moments watching this team over the years.

Hi

being a Canadian I never watched any NFL growing up. When I was about 15 I was flipping through the channels and saw a game in McNabb’s 2nd yearr when he was running around making plays and watched my first game. What hooked me wasn’t only the exciting player McNabb was but also the crazy jim johnson blitz defense… it was just fun to watch and I watched many eagles games that season and fell in love with the NFL, having never really grown up with it. I was the biggest NFL fan in my high-school.

My "t" and "y" buttons are messed up so don't bitch at me about misspelling, I'm just saying.

I grew up in New England as a Drew Bledsoe fan

but we lived 2 hours from Boston, and while I thought I was a fan, I never knew what a fan was until I went to college in Philly. That freakin city BLEEDS green. The heartbeat of the city follows the Eagles, and it didn’t take long for me to catch the fever at Chickies n Petes every Sunday.

So I’ve been with the birds for the duration of the Andy/McNabb era. GO BIRDS!!!!

was a military brat

Having spent time all over the country ….i never really had a HOME team . I did however have a 3 year stint in New Jersey. My next door neighbors at the time were all HUGE EAGLES fans ….this bothered my dad (and since i didnt really like my dad at the time it enthralled me)cuz he was a die hard vagiants fan…so i natuarally fell in love with the “Gang Green” defense and the greatyest show on earth RANDALL CUNNINGHAM …who by the way is 50000 times better than McNAbb…just sayin

You dont like my IGGLES???!!!! well you can just suck my VICK!

When I was younger I really liked Joe Montana and Steve Young, so you’d think I would be a niners fan, but we lived in Lancaster and and the Eagles games were always on. I remember for Christmas one year I asked for an Eagles Starter jacket and Santa came through… that was the beginning of my Eagles fandom.

Came to live in Philly from Ireland

in the first year of reids tenure, my brother and i used to go to a bar every week near frankford and rawn in the N.E, well we hung out there with two of the most cynical human beings i have ever had the pleasure of knowing and they sort of give us a education on the rules etc…. i figured that supporting the birds would be the right thing to do as the supporters are very much like the rabid soccer fans i was used to…. you know fans that would kill for there team !!

It helped that i hate new york and also have a particular dislike for the scumbag cowgirls

Grew up in Philly my whole life

No choice but to be a fan. No championships in my lifetime until last year with the Phillies! Still waiting for my first Eagles championship!

I grew up in Riverside NJ

Just on the other side of the Delaware. Because our high school team was the Rams, I became an LA Rams fan when I was about 7. Roman Gabriel was my favorite player. When he became an Eagle in 73, I became an Eagles fan. The Rams were pretty good in the 70’s and the Eagles sucked, but I was hooked. I haven’t lived in the area since 77, but I’ve stayed a diehard Eagles (and all other Philly teams) fan ever since.

Born and Bred a Philly fan...

since at least 1970. Been some rough years, some good times with Harold, Quick, Wilburt and Jaws.. but when BuddyBall came to town and brought in the most fearsome D of all time and the Randall Show, finally some respect came with it. Loved watching Eric Allen get his pics, Seth Joyner making a big play and Randall connecting to Fred Barnett. Lots of disappointment too (Fog Bowl), but I cheered when Jeffrey Lurie bought the team and when Big Red got hired on the strength of his legendary Big Book of Coaching. And me and my brother BOTH cheered the drafting of Donovan and thought people screaming for Ricki Williams were idiots, because lots of bad teams have great running backs, but rarely does a bad team with a good QB stay bad for long. But it was and always has been the D that has made me an EAGLES fan. From WAAAy back watching Bill Bergey shove mudd in a players face (AFTER he put a hit on him and while he was still lying on top of him)….Stop the run 1st, Pressure the hell out of them when they throw it, sack them or pick it off. Love it. Need it. Can never get enough D.
With AR coming to town it seemed like we could fulfill the promise of having a great D complemented by a great O, the one thing Buddy couldn’t deliver. Just hasn’t happened. So in Philly it is all about great D and hope-for-a-big-play on O….kinda sad that we haven’t progressed from Buddy’s days in that regard, especially with our Great Offensive mastermind Coach and his cohorts.
If the offense ever becomes what it is without Donovan when D-MAC is actually IN the game, it could be like watching the great 49ers offenses on one side and the 85 Bears D on the other……….that is my recipe for winning a championship. It is what I hope to see one day before I die. Just one time. Just once.
