Questions about the Spoon.
I have a couple of questions about the newest member of the team, Will Witherspoon. After his first game as an eagle, I doubt anyone has any regrets about the signing, he looked really good filling that MLB spot, so here are my questions.
1) How long is this guy signed for?
2) Where do you see him playing when, and if, Stew comes back?
He was signed to be a MLB but Big Stew has been great at the position. He's also played WLB, but i'm kinda liking what I'm seeing out of Akeem Jordan, and correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think he has the body of a SAM.
So, what do you think about this?

Will is signed thru 2012. He stands to make $2.5 mil this year and $10 mil over the next 2 years. So including this year he is signed for 3 years.
And as for the other question. Honestly, I don’t know. Stewert has done pretty good, but nobody comes back from an ACL tear and is the same person they were before (Merriman, Brady, McNabb, Deuce McCallister, etc: the list goes on). So I really don’t expect Stew to be on the uprise like he was. I don’t know about that. And while I like Akeem, he is replaced with Tracy White on Nickel situations for a reason. So there must be something wrong there. This has me skeptical too. In my opinion even with Stew here, Will is the best LB on the team.. So I don’t even know.
ACL
It is hard to come back from but it is possible to come back and be the same player you were before. Cornelius Ingram was performing very well before tearing another acl (I can make no claims about the ability to come back from TWO though). Penn State Linebacker Sean Lee tore his ACL last year, sat out a year and in the time he has played this year (not much since he sustained an ankle injury) he has been every bit as dominant a LB as he was the previous years. I would take Brady off of that list, he’s throwing for 290/game, 15 TDs with a 100 QB rating (so far higher than any other year of his career except for 07-08 which would be very hard for any QB to re-create). Keep the hope for BStew, it is possible to work your way back to where you were before the injury.
This does pose in an interesting but not bad problem next year, I think Stew will be back in the middle and Witherspoon at the WLB, the best players play.
"We are not normal, We are Legends. People will tell their kids about us." - Deon Butler before Ohio State Game 2008.
But not the same
Cornelius Ingram was way more dominant before the injury. I know he was doing good, but take my word, as good as he was in camp, he was even better while healthy at Florida. He was playing at a high level but was not the original CI. Sean Lee was good against Temple and ‘Cuse but he still wasn’t moving at the same speed. Plus, Navorro Bowman is a monster and having him off to the side helps out Lee alot. And Brady may have great stats, but he is missing a lot of the throws the Old Brady would make. Of course his stats look good, he’s in Bill’s offense (I mean Matt Cassel looked like a Pro Bowler in the offense and he hadn’t started a game since high school). So I keep Brady on that list.
I keep the hope for him and honestly I hope for the best, but as athletic a position as you need to be at MLB and given the history of ACL tears, its hard to not be concerned.
in madden he is
listed at LOLB haha, but yeah I think his natural position is Weak side line backer but who knows maybe he can play Strong side.
this is a decision way in the future though
Let's get it.
Who knows who...
…will be performing or injured or dogging it by then. It’s nice that we can worry about the potential of too much depth in this position next year, but nothing is going to look the same in January, let alone 2010 training camp.
Witherspoon has only had one excellent game in green, so it’s early to say whether or not he is truly the stud that he seems to be.
Plus, Stew was right on the edge of becoming a pro-bowl level Middle before the injury. AND he’s still very young. The Eagles like youth. For those reason I think that unless his recovery is sketchy, Stew is still the future in the middle and Spoon will be good enough that they will keep him somewhere, either by shifting others or trying him out in something new to Spoon.
Hmmmm. Spooning Stew. There’s something there.
Like the trade.
It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. Then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns and also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?
