Interesting (scary) stats
According to ESPN
DeSean Jackson on MNF
Plays: 5
Yards: 136
TDs: 2
Yards Per Play: 27.2
All the other Eagles on MNF
Plays 51
Yards: 125
Yards per play: 2.7
TDs: 0
Couple that with the fact we scored 0 TDs against you know who. Obviously this offense is in limbo right now.
I see a couple problems here:
a) If we don't get a big play -- then what? It seems like we've been having this problem since 2005. Even when we have a game when we have 1-3 explosive TDs, the constant lack luster drives gives teams plenty of time to come back and score. I have a sneaking suspicion teams are going to be hawking Jackson from now on. No way do other teams let this kid fly down the field without an extra set of eyes on him.
b) For now this offensive line is going to be mediocre. At least until they can get some continunity they are going to continue to struggle here and there. I loved the Peters trade but so far it's the Eagles who are getting the raw end of the deal. He's getting worked at least a couple of plays each game. For a 1st and a 4th + a big contract he's playing quite awful.
c) Because of the offensive line woes, the running game can't get going. We got plenty of talent to carry the rock. I think our Wild cat (which averages the 2nd most yards per play behind Miami) has great potential to pick up 4-8 yards every play. But if we can't get a good push consider our run game won't due much in terms of getting favorable 2nd and 3rd n shorts.
d) Another fact of life when McNabb gets pressured he gets happy feet and starts throwing the rock into the ground. Couple that with the fact he's just not seeing the field right now very well. The last two weeks hes not seeing open WRs or he's missing them. In the first half alone I counted 3 plays where McNabb missed an open WR for the first down really bad. Granted he's not being a great offensive line, but he's not doing anything to help.
What scares me against the Giants
I see these guys pinning their ears back knowing full well that we're having problems protecting and McNabb is having problems throwing. They have the defensive unit to put constant pressure on McNabb and know full well he'll struggle if they get there. If we play anything like we have the past two weeks on offense pencil this a loss. Sitting at 4-3 in the NFC right now is a bad thing and sitting at 4-3 in the NFC E isn't great either.

one thing that has been kind of bothering about mcnabb..
if he’s going to try and make things happen, great. but instead of throwing the ball at receivers feet, tuck the ball and run. i know he’s wearing the flak jacket and he’s hurt….but those 150 yds wouldn’t look as suspect if he had some rushing yds to go with it. IMO.

I thought the same thing
Part of the reason what made Donovan successful was he could beat the D with his feet.

That's why the deep pass was free against TB...
that and the Bucs are horrible.

Maybe that hit in the Carolina scared him away from running

hate to say it
in a way i wish mcnabb would go down for a few more games so we could get a better look at kolb with some key games comeing up against giants and cowfags. seems like mcnabb does not want to take a shot or chance at anything over 10yrds just checks the ball down to the te or rb need to open it up

he definitely needs to hit his stride.

The giants are having serious problems with their secondary, so Im not that worried about this. If they rush us max protect and take advantage of their dbs in one on one coverage.

That's the good thing
But the Raiders without Asomugha(SP) aren’t good either and they handled us too. We can’t over look anything at this point.

But that makes too much sense...
If history serves as any kind of teacher, we will see us send 6 out on patterns and Donovan getting sacked 6 steps into his 7-steps. and then repeating it, over and over.
Hopefully I’m way wrong and we HAVE watched tape and HAVE done that famous “self-scouting” that I’m not real sure they (AR/MM) see objectively.
But for some reason, I think we take this game big.

Jesus
Only us Eagles fans would count a big win against a division opponent as somewhat of a loss.
Relax, guys. Just relax.

Who's counting it as a loss?
But we just lost to OAK and had another really poor offensive outing against another bottom feeder. Our concern is legit as anything.

No One's Calling it a loss
And no one’s bitching about a win.
We’ve moved on from the Redskins to the Giants, and we have noticed some things that have to be addressed if we’re going to compete.

One observation
I had was that Donovan threw low to several targets (mainly Brent Celek) on 3rd down situations. Of course, many of you will say he throws low all the time, but I’m just stating something worth discussing.

McNabb has a grip problem...
from what I’ve seen from his low throws, I don’t think he gets that great of a grip on the ball. Can someone tell me if that was one of his knocks coming out of college. The only things I remember about 1999 were Cincinatti’s men’s basketball team, Ricky Williams, and Mateen Cleaves.

LOL
i forgot aboout Mateen Cleaves
Brent Celek is the man

How could you?
Mateen Cleaves is THE man. No one gave him a fair shot. He could have been better than MJ, Wilt, or Dr. J combined. Please note the sarcasm.

Kingmcnabb
welcome to a discussion…you post all week long, I didn’t know if you had it in you to actually discuss this stuff

Seeing what Kolb has
throwing Kolb in against the Giants, with our Oline……. Ill stick with McNabb, but if we dont take either of these next to games I will definitely reconsider

You guys are crazy
about playing Kolb. The grass will always be greener for whatever player is struggling. Leave in Donovan he’s won there the past two games he’s played.
by ToolMan666 on Oct 27, 2009 8:32 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That's true
we won there twice last year with McNabb…with that said, I’m really scared about:
1. Protection for McNabb
2. Consistency from the Offense
3. Accuracy from McNabb

You know you're charting unpopular waters
but I respect an opinion that’s been thought through. I don’t think you’re crazy (I’m sure you could tell that from this week’s discussions)…but I don’t know if I’m there yet. I’m getting there…but I’m not there yet.
I was certainly there after the Cincinnatti game last year, and the Baltimore game…even with Kolb’s picks in that game, I was ready to see him start against Arizona…but then McNabb came WAY back and blew them out…he actually played well the rest of the season (minus one game against Washington), and played well in the playoffs.
It seems every time I’m ready for something new at QB (Injury in ‘05, injury in ’06, 8-8 in ’07, the SUCK PHASE in ’08, and almost right now), McNabb comes back to prove he’s still my man…I want to see him vs the Giants, and then I’ll be more ready to lean a certain direction

I've given you a lot of flak for the whole Kolb-over-McNabb thing, Joe
But this point is well-thought out, and pretty accurate. McNabb clearly isn’t himself right now, and he needs to find a way to get comfortable in the pocket in a hurry, because the Giants are going to throw the playbook at the Eagles to try to stop their two-game slide in its tracks.
Now, with that being said, McNabb still gives us the best chance to win (by far and away, everyone who keeps serenading ‘the future is now’ can suck it), as long as McNabb and the coaches are acknowledging something is off with his recent performances and are actively trying to fix it. If they ignore it, things will only get worse.
Thankfully, he was outstanding two-and-a-half weeks ago, so it’s not like he hasn’t shown any signs of life since returning from his rib injury. It seems like it’s bothering him, but he needs to acclimate to it in order for the Eagles offense to be successful.

how about a plan???
we all know mcnabb by now or should… if i were reid and co. i’d give him 2 more starts… if he doesn’t start showing the ability to lead sustained drives, the season will be over because the eagles will lose the next 2 games and be at 4 & 4 with no positive momentum… if he turns it around, great!!!! the team will at least split and be at worst 5 and 3 and moving in the right direction…. if he doesn’t, then let kolb finish the season… we get to see if kolb is really the future… if he is, then great…if he can’t do the job, it will be time to make some serious decisions… no matter what its time to s*** or get off the pot.

Best Case Scenario:
Donovan puts together enough of a run to take us to the SB, where our D wins it, someone offers us a Herschel Walker-type Dallas-Minnesota trade for #5, and then Kolb comes into a stacked situation and turns out to be the 70% passer he was in college and throws 300+ week in week out on 21 of 30 attempts behind the most formidable running game Philly has ever seen—> and we go on to win 2 more before AR retires and Sean McD inherits The Dynasty, bringing John Gruden in as OC and we roll to three more titles in 5 yrs, becoming the first team to do it with both the overall #1 D, setting a record for fewest plays faced in NFL history, AND the most devastatingly efficient offense the league has ever seen, setting a 3rd down-conversion % record along with racking up League Highs in yds, points and kneel downs while kicking the fewest field goals in franchise history.
by madderwulf on Oct 31, 2009 4:39 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Worst case scenario:
We play games like 04 Pittsburgh, 08 Baltimore, 09 Oakland over and over until DMac gets benched, Kolb turns out to be AJ Feeley in Miami, Vick gets jailed for failing to meet his parole officer and AR takes a permanent sabbatical to “be with my family” while Jeffrey Lurie turns the reigns over to Marty, who immediately trades Desean Jackson and ALL our draft picks to Jerry Jones for Roy Wlliams.
