Game balls!!!
A win is a win... I guess. A lot not to like in our win over the embarrassingly bad Redskins, but some guys came to play last night...
GAME BALL - DeSean Jackson
Would anyone dispute that he's the best player on this team right now? In fact, I'll take it a step further. Hypothetical situation... You're allowed to trade DeSean Jackson for ONE other offensive player in the NFC East. You have your choice of anybody. Is there anyone you'd trade him for?
GAME BALL - SPOOOOOOON!!!
8 tackles, 1 INT, 1 pass defensed, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 TD. Welcome to Philly, Spoon. Really liked what I saw out of him - He showed a lot of speed chasing down Jason Campbell and forcing a fumble, and you have to be impressed with anyone that can step right into this defense and contribute immediately. I liked Brandon Gibson, but clearly this was a phenomenal trade.
GAME BALL - Akeem Jordan
We've gotten very bad play out of 2 of our 3 linebacker positions so far this year. The one bright spot... Akeem Jordan. We have a really nice young player here, and he came to play last night. 10 tackles, and one monster de-cleater on Ladell Betts.
GAME BALL - Trent Cole
I keep asking this... When people talk about the best DE's in the game, why is Trent Cole never mentioned? 6.5 sacks on the season now (2 sacks last night, and an additional 2 tackles for loss), and he's had at least a half sack in every game. He consistently abused the Redskins' O Line last night, and the result was 6 sacks by the defense. If this guy isn't in the Pro Bowl this year, it'll be an absolute disgrace.
Honorable Mention Game Balls - Jason Babin, Quintin Mikell, Brodrick Bunkley, Jeremy Maclin

SPOOOOOONNNNN!!!
We already knew DeSean was gonna make them look bad. But Spoon played surprisingly well for his first game as an Eagles. Like Gruden said," Why did the Rams trade this guy?" I aint mad.

I’ve never met so many people who bitch about a win. Not the guys on this post, but still.
Not every game is perfect and they act like Andy hasn’t been the coach forever already.
They must forget he does this shit every year.
This was a Division win.
Period.
We can build on it.
All five of those guys you posted showed up, and so did Q, Babin and a couple others.
I feel like we are starting to come together now.
Getting Herremans up to game speed again too will be huge, too many penalties.

Look, I'll take a win ESPECIALLY in our division
but shouldn’t it be just a little disconcerting that DJAX is the only offensive player deserving of a game ball.
Our defense is playing well, and coming together. I’m not bitching about a win, but I am noticing things (namely the O Line) that need a tweak or two before we play the Giants. The Giants are going to be hard pressed to lose 3 in a row…they’re going to come out READY TO PLAY, and I’m only worried they’re going to harrass our OLine and get in McNabb’s head.

gotta consider the entire O-line. Besides some hurries and a couple sacks, there were few penalties and mcnabb had decent protection.

Welcome to BGN...
Gotta disagree there though… Peters got beaten badly off the edge, which caused a McNabb sack/fumble. I remember Justice and Nick Cole each being flagged for penalties (there may have been more), and there was absolutely no push in the run game.

What was Peters thinking with that nose dive?

Peters is a turnstile.
I think I said that before…

I wouldn’t go that far. The bad play last night aside, he’s been great.

agreed
for pass protection. If he hadnt gone for a cut block, his night wouldve been decent. No one in the O-line played good in run blocking
RIP Jim Johnson. You will truly be missed.

as much as I would of liked to vote for all of these guys… Jackson deserves the game ball because without his big plays, its clear we wouldn’t of won the game. Spoon showed up and I was very impressed that he was able to come in here and play like he did. We are showing some promise and I have high hopes that things only get better from here on out.

honestly
it has to be Spoon not only was this his first game with the Eagles it was his first game in the NFC East in a division game … the stakes were high and he stepped up.

Spoon has a Sack, a FF, a turnover and a Pick and a TD in his first game and is now in the running for NFC Defensive player of the week. Hi-Five Spoon.

I think he meant the picture…

Spoon, Desean, and Cole dominated.
Jordan quietly had a great game too, i’m really starting to like that kid.
The real test is the Giants though. It’s a whole different game for our D going against that Oline rather than the questionable Oline of Washington. If Spoon continues to make big plays next week I’ll be ecstatic.
I just want Sunday to come.

We have no shot against their D Line if the OL can’t put it together.
By the way, to the NFL schedule makers… Thanks for scheduling the Giants the week after a Monday nighter.

Yeah the O-line clicking is pivotal for next week.
I know it’s cliche but this really is a game that rests entirely in the trenches. In order to win we need to not only contain their D-line, but get through their O-line to pressure Eli. Neither of which is an easy task.

Sheldon Brown
I thought sheldon played really well last night, and also asante made some decent tackles.
Our Defensive backfield played very well overall I thought. With all the pressure we were bringing they really had to step it up and it seemed that Cambell was forced to check down to his tightend alot.
Exception for Sean Jones on that whiff and Ellis Hobbs when he got exploded by their offensive tackle.

I got scared
When ESPN showed the replay of Sheldon biting hard on the slant and Moss WAY open if Campbell had seen him

Spoon
Great Post as usual Bye, Dawk :( and I have to agree with your picks for games balls.
I would have to give the game ball to Spoon, this guy came in a played some football, new playbook and pressure be damned, he set up shop in FedEx field last night, he went so far as unpacking his undies and putting his tooth brush in the bathroom and just said “I own this joint”. Between Spoon and Jordan they had 18 tackles between the two of them.
A few side comments about how ugly the win was. Yes Dmac5 looked not so hot to say the least but the guy has bad ribs and I am sure getting sacked 9 times in the last two weeks is not how you would like to spend your afternoons. Our team needs to play much more psychically, making the opposing team pay for even looking at the ball as shown by Trent Cole’s second sack, he leveled Jason Campbell (so nicely depicted by picture above). I also agree with your assessment that we are really lacking a major push up front from the O-Line and not creating rushing lanes. A win is a win though.
Who cares we’re winning anyway!!

I want to see more Jason Babin.
A good chunk more.
As for the game ball, can’t we just cut it in half and give the two sides to Jackson and Witherspoon? If I had to pick, it would be Jackson, because he single-handedly saved this offense from being completely abysmal. Witherspoon was fantastic, but the defense was actually doing something outside of him.
And Westbrook, get well as soon as possible!

I have a fever and the only cure is more Babin! Seriously though, he needs to seee more time at LDE. Juqua Parker is good situational player, but I don’t like him out there as a starter.

I like Abiamiri
but yeah, Babin is a real player….I think I’d prefer either in a steady role over Parker

I wonder how fast Babin is, and what other positions he has played.
Linebacker maybe? Maybe? The guy is so intense, but a little big for linebacker and maybe small for DE. Could he cover passes in the middle? Would he be able to keep up with Kevin Boss? Probably not, but hmmmmmmm…..
by IggleGreen on Oct 27, 2009 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Note: By middle, I meant as a Will or a Sam
I think we know we have a pretty good Mike for now.
by IggleGreen on Oct 27, 2009 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He's a DE...
He was a DE in college, and Houston tried to convert him to a 3-4 OLB, and that didn’t work. Trust me… We don’t even want to have him try covering TE’s. His strength is getting upfield and putting pressure on the QB. The Spoon will begin drawing more TE responsibility as he begins to learn the defense more. I think McDermitt smartly simplified it for him last night by just sending him toward to football, but he’ll eventually be our guy that mostly picks up the TE in our base package.

No love for Bunkley?
Maybe he didnt put up the crazy numbers, but that bull was all OOOOOVER the field! He and Patterson have really sured up that D-Line, why do you think that the skins got ZERO push from their O-Line, ya they suck, but our DT’s def helped keep Portis (a former eagle killer) bottled up

All together...
SPOOOOOON!!!
Could somebody please explain to me why the Rams traded this guy in the first place? The man is a beast!
Oh, and DeSean Jackson is the best receiver in the NFC East. Just saying.
"Backs in the 'I'...First and 10...McNabb, play action. Is back again. He is looking..he is going deep. He wants DeSean Jackson..who HAS IT!!! HE HAS IT!!! AND STEPPED INTO THE ENDZONE!! He took it away from the defender!! He took it away from Dominique Rogers-Cromarte, and ran into the endzone!!"

he is a straight up beast. He is one of the best in the NFL.
