WR Curtis to Seek Second Opinion on Injury

It seems that at least one of the hurting Eagles is taking some extra steps in attempting to rid of his injury struggles. Philadelphia’s starting WR Kevin Curtis plans to listen to a second medical opinion in the near future regarding trouble he’s been experiencing with keeping his knee healthy. Although this certainly won’t make the veteran receiver instantly better and ready to return to the field with his full ability, some new advise for Curtis is probably a great thing to receive.

Since the former St. Louis Ram wideout finished his first season with the Eagles in 2007, the passing target’s career has gone downhill. Of course, he still contains quality speed and excellent versatility, but Curtis hasn’t been able to stay on the field as of late. He has missed three games this year due to injury, and prior to that he had trouble playing consistently and competing at a high level in the season’s opening two games, as well as in the preseason.

Most of us remember Curtis’ magical ‘07 season, in which he recorded over 1,000 receiving yards and led all Eagles in terms of offensive production via the team’s WRs. However, in 2008, he suffered a sports hernia injury, and was only able to play for roughly half of the season. Although confident with his injury status in the offseason, Curtis sustained another injury earlier this year when he sprained his knee. Each and every week, it seems the pain lessens for the 31-year-old, at least according to staff statements and the Wide Receiver himself, but there clearly hasn’t been any significant improvements, as he has been inactive for the past trio of games.

Today, following the team’s practice session in which Curtis did not participate, head coach Andy Reid said: “The pain is not going away [for Kevin]. That’s the problem,” “We’ve done all the MRI [test]s we can do. MRIs don’t tell the whole story.”

Only time will tell whether Curtis will truly return to the field this season and prove a beneficial offensive factor, but until there are obvious signs of injury improvement shown, we can’t expect too much to be produced from the receiver. Hopefully the second medical opinion Curtis seeks will at least provide him with some motivating and helpful advice, and he will be back on the field as soon as possible.
