Peters, Others Not Seriously Injured

To make matters worse in yesterday's embarrassing loss to the Oakland Raiders, several Eagles were hurt while playing in the game. The injured players were evaluated earlier today and head coach Andy Reid addressed each player's status in a recent press conference, and to the joy of many Eagle fanatics, none of the banged up Birds were seriously hurt.

Starting OT Jason Peters (pictured) rolled awkwardly onto his leg while attempting to block oncoming defenders in yesterday's 1st quarter, and was forced to leave the field and enter the team locker room after experiencing pain in his lower leg. After a brief examination by conditioning doctors, it was revealed that the offseason trade acquisition had sustained a slight knee contusion as well as an ankle sprain. However, the Tackle underwent an MRI test today and there seems to be no serious damage to his leg, hence Reid's statement of optimism regarding the chance of Peters returning to the field next week versus the Redskins. In the event that Peters is unable to play, Reid also said that moving starting OG Todd Herremans (who is recovering from his own injury that has kept him out of all of the first five games) to the LT spot is a possibility.

Omar Gaither, who continued to participate in a MLB rotation on Sunday, suffered a minor injury to his foot while in action. He exited the game for several plays, but returned later in the contest without a high level of pain. The hurting on Gaither's foot has been ruled a sprain, and further details on his status will be released throughout the week. The staff doesn't feel he will miss any significant time, and judging by his performance late in the game, it appears he'll be quite alright.

Two players mounted on the defensive line for the Eagles are also nicked up, in DE Victor Abiamiri and DT Brodrick Bunkley. Abiamiri, who once again started on the left side of the defensive front, began to notice soreness in his knee during the game, and is currently listed as "day-to-day" with a knee sprain. This injury comes on the same knee that bothered Abiamiri throughout Training Camp, and hopefully it is as well as the coaches are assuring it is--not serious. As for Bunkley, the gigantic force at the base of the defense suffered a rib contusion. He walked off of the field under his own power and returned to the game after being hurt, and is expected to be fine.

The injury update, although filled with key players, was a promising one, and perhaps it will be the start of a great and productive week of rebounding following the Eagles' dull Week 6 loss.
