Pro Quality. Fan Perspective.
Around SBN: Has Kentucky Improved Since the Non-Conference Season?

This will never end ...

Whoever this applies to, when are you going to stop continuing to point fingers at the same people when the Birds lose. It is clearly evident that other people were drastically more at fault for this loss. Like i don't know maybe ......... the offensive line, celek/receivers dropping balls, db's missing tackles, line backers getting beat in coverage, the refs having man crush's' on the raiders because they wear the same colors or even that god damn pigeon on special teams !

"Reid must go ! McNabb Sucks !!!" ....     am i the only one tired of hearing this ?

If we would of decisively won that game like we should have there would be absolutely no talks of firing people and it wouldn't of crossed your mind the entire game. Its amazing how quickly peoples opinions come out of the dark after one loss, but these same people are praising the players and team when were winning ball games. Now don't get me wrong, there are a few of you who stick to their guns and even though i disagree with you i respect your consistency. Now for the majority of you dipsticks, I have yet to see a game where we won but you came out screaming we didnt run the ball enough or andy needs to be fired for all those plays he called because we could of got 20 yards instead of 12 yards on that play !!!

Do you know why ? Cause you would of sounded like a moron, which is why its too easy for you people to come out of the dark after a game like that and completely ruin some peoples morale. Why cant you people realize this game was a failure on all levels ? You people think if we ran more we would of won that game ? You guys are kidding me right ? The offensive line could barely hold up in the pass protection, let alone stay on their two feet. What makes you think we would of won by running ?

Please break it down for us how our inconsistent and unreliable linemen would of made more of an impact if we ran. Also please post video footage and side notes with explanations where your play calling would of been more effective against the raiders defense as apposed to the greatest coach the Philadelphia Eagles have ever been lead by.

Please do , Hugs and Kisses , No Homo ... - NPK

No, you’re not the only one tired of hearing things like that. Don’t get me wrong, I’m beyond frustrated with the way we played yesterday, but people are already sticking a fork in our season. It’s still really early, and I’m already sick of all of the negativity I’m hearing.

Besides, times of turmoil seem to be when the Eagles play their best football. Remember when we were 5-5-1? Remember when McNabb tore his ACL?

"Backs in the 'I'...First and 10...McNabb, play action. Is back again. He is looking..he is going deep. He wants DeSean Jackson..who HAS IT!!! HE HAS IT!!! AND STEPPED INTO THE ENDZONE!! He took it away from the defender!! He took it away from Dominique Rogers-Cromarte, and ran into the endzone!!"

whoa there, jack....

calling the raiders a decent team is a bit of a stretch. i really think this is more of a case of us seriously underestimating a team with severely bruised pride. while the raiders do have some talent at various positions, they are far from decent. is anyone else but me surprised at michael huff? in the offseason he had the bust label hanging over him….what happened? the guy has 3 picks already. previously i don’t think he had ever had gotten one.

Reminds me of the Baltimore Game last year

Y’all had a stinker against the Ravens last year, only to go on a tear after that. Sure you lost to a smurf-bag of team. But at least your team has some backbone. Of course it’s embarassing to get beat by a JV club like Oakland, but keep your chin up, my beloved Cowboys are coming to the Link soon to wash away your sorrows with our false starts, leg whips, off-sides, holdings, fumbles, and interceptions.

+1 - What a bunch of whiners.

It’s time for an attitude adjustment and for the coaches to react and fix the issues found.

It was an AMAZING day. Illuminated everything that has to be fixed. If these leadership, attitude and coaching issues can be fixed, we will have a championship-level team.

The bloodthirsty, manic and panicky reaction of some of these fans is why the sports media loves bashing this city. And these QUITTERS deserve it.

This is going to be one mightily pissed off team on Monday night and I, for one, pity Washington what they are going to experience.

It’s time to stop whining and show your fanhood.

by IggleGreen on Oct 19, 2009 4:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Uh, no.

The fact that we’re a smallish media market that goes against Dallas, Washington and New York – all more popular markets – and the fact that the media loves an easy label AND loves a villain are why the media likes bashing this city.

Oh, and we boo bad play from our players en masse, and we threw snowballs at Santa Claus thirty years ago.

Blaming how the media treats Philly on panicked fans is just as knee-jerk as what you’re accusing other people of. Seriously, this holier-than-thou attitude regarding fandom is better than the knee-jerk panick? It’s just the other side of the coin.

Sports, people. Sports.

IggleGreeen, you make a great point.

Why did we have to go through this though? Isn’t a great leader supposed to anticapate these types of problems, before we lose to a crappy team?

My answer is yes. If you think that it is ok for Reid to make the same mistakes, year after year, after year that is your problem.

I ain’t quitting anything. Just breaking down our team weaknesses.

nope your not alone

I saw/see it all the time. Heres some stat breakdown for all you “hater” haters out there. Yes McNabb has one of (if not THEE lowest) interception ratings of all active QB’s…….Cuz when he throws a bad ball, its SO bad ,even the OTHER TEAM CANT CATCH IT!!!!!!!
Yes McNabb has a very strong arm …so do I , ask my dick i give both of em a good work out every day. a strong without accuracy is tantamount to………jack shit.
now Im NOT a McNabb hater…as a matter of fact those of you who have been on here long enuff might remember my old sigline was" McNAbb, THATS my quarterback man" But i can still admit his flaws…Thats the problem with all of us. Those of you who are haters cant for the life of ya admit that YES McNabb IS top tier TALENT, and those who are supporters cant for a second admit the guy AINT perfect and NEEDS to SERIOUSLY work on his timing and accuracy.
We all talk about WR’s needing to time running their routes. yes? Well why cant we admit DMAC needs to do better leading his guy on these routes? just sayin

Andy has 8 winning seasons in 10 years...

um Im pretty sure that that means that 80% of his time as the head coach has been sucessful…

McNabb is the franchise leader in god knows how many categories…

Does Andy make stupid clock management mistakes? yes
Does Andy rely on the pass a bit to much? yes
Does he need to run more? yes

Is McNabb to inconsistant? hell yes.
Is he still the best option to win right now? I honestly dont know the answer after the raiders game.

Also I feel we dont run more because

our make shift O-line cannot open lanes as of right now and from what I have seen were not following our LT(our best run blocker).. But once herremans returns that left side is going to be steller as long as he is healthy.

As of right now Andy needs to hold a press conference and hold an open compitition for the starting QB spot. You would think that McNabb wouldnt need to be pushed in this manner at this point in his career but its evident that he is way to comfortable in his role on this team and is to comfortable with Andy. McNabb could do terrible for 5 maybe 6 games before andy would even begin to think about benching him.

The thing is i dont think McNabb has actually ever done really bad for 5-6 games in a row recently (not to my memory). And anyways, i dont think it would take that many games for andy reid to bench mcnabb. baltimore game? he benched mcnabb after a half. anyways dont freak out on mcnabb yet its early in the season he has to get his rhythm going and then we’ll be good.

Yes, if we ran more we could have won that game. Reid ran the ball 11 times the whole game. Any average football fan will think that is ridiculous. Reid must think he is playing Madden. Raiders are 16th in pass yards allowed per game compared to 28th in rush yards allowed. Our inconsistent and unreliable lineman paved the way for Westy to have 50 yards rushing in count it, 6 attempts. Yet, Reid kept calling pass plays that include 5-7 step dropbacks when clearly the line was getting raped. He called at least 15 play action passes thinking it will still work without running the fucking ball.
Not running ball = No successful play action passes. Not running ball also = More pressure on Mcnabb. More pressure on Mcnabb = Inaccurate passes. Get the flow?
There is your breakdown.

We could have also had another chance to win the game if Reid didn’t call that fuckin’ timeout at 2:02. I’m tired of explaining that. See Bye Dawk’s and my comments in his posts.

by Route36 on Oct 20, 2009 2:24 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Why do the Saints offense kick ass? It’s because they are balanced. They run the ball which makes their passing attack much more dangerous. They are 7th in pass yards per game and 4th, yes 4th in rush yards per game which equals to 1st in points per game. Inconsistent coaching is much worse than an inconsistent QB. We have a pro bowl running back in Westbrook, a pro-bowl alternate in Weaver and promising rookie. Use them!

Andy Reid needs to go. 36-32-1 (2005-present) Oakland game is unacceptable.

Finally, a rational fan!!!

I’m so ecstatic to finally see another fan who doesn’t have this ridiculous obsession with the run/pass ratio. I wrote this earlier on the Eagles website: “To everyone who continues to complain about the run/pass ratio: Do you really believe that if Andy had simply called more run plays, we would’ve won that game? Yes like 3 of our 11 runs were successful and that ONE big one by BWest boosted the YPC to a decent number, but overall most of the plays were stuffed for minimal gain as usual. McCoy had 13 yards on 5 carries. There’s no reason to believe we could’ve pounded all the way down the field in the 2nd half 5 yards at a time and scored. We had FOUR freaking backups in at OL, and Jamal Jackson was always the weakest run blocker out of the projected starters anyway. Until yesterday, they’ve done a fine job of pass protecting, and it makes sense for Andy to call plays to the strengths of his team. To blame yesterday’s game on Andy’s playcalling instead of the collapsing protection, errant throws, dropped passes, missed FGs, defensive meltdown etc… is retarded.”

The run/pass obsession is my biggest peeve as a fan. Westbrook has had only 3 good games since the beginning of last season and has been a non-factor almost every week. He goes down with the first hand that touches him. He only gets past the line of scrimmage if there’s a huge hole and there won’t be many holes behind this 2nd string O-line. And I have to deal with the endless complaints by the announcers, analysts and fans every week wondering why Andy didn’t run more despite nearly always getting less than 3 yards per carry. All the cliche words like “control the clock”, “wear down the defense”, “keep the D honest” etc… None of that can happen if you’re not running it WELL, the only player who will get worn out is Sav Rocca. This team is not built to run it well currently, but they’re equipped to be a lethal passing attack… they just didn’t execute on Sunday, and the pass pro which was usually good was awful. Their only real chance to win was with the passing game.

Their only real chance to win was with the passing game.

Cincinnati game: 58 passes, 14 rushes. LOSS
Washington game: 46 passes, 12 rushes. LOSS
Oakland game: 46 passes, 11 rushes. LOSS

I guess that kills that argument.

Running the ball is not just for getting yards on the ground, it’s also for keeping the defense honest. If you don’t run the ball, HOW would the opposing defense bite on the play action passes that Reid keeps calling for?? Play action passes are made for big plays. If the defense don’t bite, big plays are limited. If you don’t run the ball, the defense will always be expecting a pass and therefore it makes Mcnabb’s job harder as the quarterback. If it was that easy to just win games by passing the whole game, why the fuck would there be running backs??

If you NPK, still don’t understand what I’m saying then I rest my case.

Andy Reid has to live with Sunday's reality: He was out coached by Tom Cable. (John Clayton)
Since 2005: Andy Reid 36-32-1; 7-25-1 when tied or losing at halftime.

If we would of decisively won that game like we should have there would be absolutely no talks of firing people and it wouldn’t of crossed your mind the entire game.

But they didn’t. They lost to one of the worst teams in the NFL, failing to score a single TD in the process.

Firing Reid midseason would be stupid. But this isn’t an isolated incident and he’s got to be held accountable for this. I don’t expect the Eagles to go undefeated, but I do expect them, if they’re a good team like we’ve all projected them to be, to beat the shit out of Tampa, Kansas City, Oakland, and the Redskins. When has a Belichick team lost that badly to that bad a team? 2003 vs. Buffalo? I don’t see how you CAN’T criticize Reid right now. They have superbowl expectations and they lost to the Raiders?

These games count. The Eagles lost twice to the Skins last year, lost to the Bears, and tied the Bengals. Wouldn’t it have been nice to win three of those games? Don’t you like their chances vs. Arizona in the NFC Championship better if it’s at the LInc?

Likewise, they did win the division in the 2006 season, but they also lost to some pretty bad teams. Wouldn’t it have been awesome to drag the Saints out of their dome and into the cold of Philly? (not that that’s always worked out so great, but I always think it’s an advantage to play a dome team outside in the cold).

If they miss homefield advantage by 1 game, well then a clunker loss to one of the worst teams in the league made the difference.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.
