Jason Peters injury not serious

Photo

Andy Reid updated several injuries in his Monday morning presser and the best news is that LT Jason Peters' knee injury was not serious.

Defensive end Victor Abiamiri is "day to day" with a knee sprain. Left tackle Jason Peters has a knee contusion and an ankle sprain. Middle linebacker Omar Gaither has a foot sprain.

Peters is expected to play next Monday night against the Redskins. Good news considering how painfully obvious it was made on Sunday just how important a healthy Jason Peters is to this football team.

And hit the weight room. Not sure I’ve seen anyone tossed around like that in the NFL.

thats great news

However i am starting to wonder about the intestinal fortitude of this guy. He sat out most of tc and preseason with “injuries”. I just hope he’s putting all his effort into the game each week. We paid him a ton of money and sometimes that makes people lazy for a while

Brent Celek is the man

well this one was pretty legit. In fact after seeing the play he was hurt on, I’m shocked it wasn’t serious. A big guy fell on his leg and bent it in a very unnatural way.

yea usually a play like that results in a tear of some sort, I think he just got lucky

Big heart, small brains

Because it is typical of watching an Eagles game at a bar. McNabb sucks . . . Reid sucks . . .

by MG77 on Oct 19, 2009 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions

i think that my obsession with the Eagles may be at an all time high. how else do you explain that as all the people at my bar are bitching about mcnabb sucking, that i’m the only one cussing at dunlap getting taken to school by richard seymour. who watches the left tackle when the qb has the ball? well, besides me. everyone was looking at me funny as i’m like “come on dulap, get in the game” as they wonder “who’s dunlap?”

There's nothing wrong with being an informed fan

Most games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage. You’d be right to call Dunlap out too; he was terrible.

by cwel87 on Oct 19, 2009 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Very true… This loss was not McNabb’s fault.

Granted, McNabb didn’t do a ton to help us win the game, he didn’t do anything to lose the game.

The O-line was pathetic, the play calling was bad, and the execution all-around was bad. It would help if our receivers would catch passes at critical times.

by Smitty2K3 on Oct 19, 2009 1:29 PM EDT up reply actions

soren k

As a critic of McNabb in the past, I can’t blame him on this one. I was even encouraged to see him attempt to rally the troops on the sideline. This is the kind of leadership we need and in the past, I have found lacking from him.

Which is just the sort of thing that drives me nuts about Eagles fans. Obviously, the people here are a self-selecting group and most fans aren’t this obsessive, but geez, how hard is it to notice the QB is spending most of his time 1) running for his life or 2) on his ass?

There is still hope

With Peters still in play and Abiamiri still hopeful to recover and get healthy again… there is still hope for this team to recover and make the playoffs.

There are a lot of concerns, but with some changes to personnel and philosophy, we have the talent to get it done. It might be good that a loss like this happened so early in the season.

by Smitty2K3 on Oct 19, 2009 1:27 PM EDT reply actions

it'd be better if we traded for a LB that can cover a TE before tomorrow

Without that, we’ll get owned in the playoffs…just think of the TEs we’ll face during the season or in the playoffs

tony gonzalez
jason witten
chris cooley
Visanthe Shiancoe
Greg Olsen
antonio gates

it could really get ugly if we dont’ fix that inadequacy…

yikes! i wish i hadn’t seen that list!

by eaglesinmd on Oct 19, 2009 4:10 PM EDT up reply actions

oh brother where are thou?

oh jeesus i dont like that this lol wished we had a good pass covering LB…..lol…well we’ve lived with and survived with our LBs that we have right now, but at the same time, it’s not like theres anything we can do to be able to cover TEs more effectively…..maybe get one of the defensive backs to cover the TE once in a while….

If I'm goin' to hell, you're coming with me...

by DIBTA on Oct 19, 2009 6:28 PM EDT up reply actions

or trade for one that can cover

that’s not a hole that should be overlooked. I understand we dont’ stress LB play, but we’ll lose multiple games if we can’t cover the TE. Everyone and their mother knows it. Only Wade Phillips will be too dumb to exploit it.

by eagleyosh on Oct 19, 2009 8:43 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think the solution is that easy

I’m almost certain TE coverage is the safety’s job a fair bit of the time in a 4-3. Depends on formation strength and number of receivers to one side, and whether the Eagles are in zone or man, but to generalize … safeties are going to be responsible for vertical routes, and stuff in the 6-12 area (some corners even) …

LBs drop to hook zones (over the middle coverage, and underneath deep in routes) and sometimes drop hook-to-flat. In man, they often end up with backs out of the backfield or the innermost slot receiver in trips, although they cover TEs who drag across the formation a lot.

I think this is where OCs isolate against a Trotter and run a guy across the field, knowing he can’t keep up.

I’ll have to keep a closer eye on it, but I was always under the impression Gaither was good in coverage. Which LB are we proposing we replace, and in what situations?

Whew.

About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.

I know anytime you have injuries your play will drop off a bit when your backups come in, but you need to have adequate backups coming off the bench. dunlap is not good enough to come off the bench, so he shouldnt be on the roster

by eaglesinmd on Oct 19, 2009 4:55 PM EDT reply actions

to be fair Justice got worked when he came in against the Giants but has been playing pretty well at RT when everyone had already counted him out.

there’s some truth… again, let’s be realistic here. how many “real snaps” has dunlap seen? not training came or preseason games, real snaps? think there’s a bit of a learning curve between those two things? i certainly do. he’ll be fine, baptism by fire isn’t the worst thing.

honestly, the interior looked worse with cole and max slow off the snap almost every time

"I tried to run him over but Eli had his big boy pads on and he kind of stopped me from getting in the end zone. The next time I’ll try to jump over his head.’’ - Asante Samuel

by foos05 on Oct 19, 2009 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

What was up with those slow “getting off the snaps”? Couldn’t they hear, or were they confused with the snap count?

by LegendKnight22 on Oct 19, 2009 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Damn straight

Justice was the only lineman who played “ok” yesterday for most of the game and only really had 1 play I can remember where he got beat badly.

by MG77 on Oct 19, 2009 10:17 PM EDT up reply actions

ok, but only when

he switched to RT. Do I want him out there as back up LT? No, not really.

Not only that, but we saw Dunlap get worked during the preseason. Honestly, I still don’t know why they keep ignoring Mike McGlynn, and putting their trust in Dunlap.

VERY Good News

Especially with Herremans coming back. Cole can slide over to LG, and we’ll be okay.

Good news

Peters hasn’t lived up to his billing/paycheck but the failoff was huge to Dunlap who was beat repeatedly yesterday by Seymour. Even a relatively inexperienced lineman should be getting simply pancaked even by a veteran DE like Seymour. Poor technique and a lack of strength.

As for Abiamiri, big deal. I still don’t understand why fans have been so high on this guy who simply can’t stay healthy and hasn’t brought much in terms of production when he is in the lineup. Played well the first week against the Panthers but since then he hasn’t done a whole lot.

Yesterday we was a complete zero with a dumb personal foul and a general failure to hold the point of attack well against the run.

by MG77 on Oct 19, 2009 10:31 PM EDT reply actions

Strongly disagree

He’s been a rock at LT on pass protection, and we know that he can pull. It’s just up to Andy Reid to call some plays where he can pancake people on the outside. I’m very happy with Peters so far. It’s amazing what you can get out of a guy once you actually teach him to pass block properly.

Runyan?

I’m glad to hear Peters is OK – but it seems that the whole line has issues. What happened with Runyan? Weren’t they looking him over the other week to possibly come back? I haven’t followed up on that – but does anyone wonder if the old veteran might be able to help out a line that seems to have a lot of issues?

by flygirl on Oct 20, 2009 8:07 AM EDT reply actions

And replace Justice, the one guy on the OL who has been both healthy and consistently playing well? How does that help?
