Brian Westbrook sums things up well

"We didn't run the ball good enough, we definitely didn't throw the ball good enough, and we didn't block good enough," the veteran running back said. "We're better than that. We didn't execute our offense very well at all."

When you don't run, throw, or block well... you don't win many games.

Andy Reid's comments were similar.

"They blocked better, they tackled better, and I thought they blitzed better," Reid said. "They did it all and they coached better."

So for those scoring at home we didn't run, pass, block, tackle, blitz, or coach well. That sounds like the game I saw.

4.8 rushing average

Bullcrap. They rushed the ball fine. The coaches didn’t call running plays sufficient to take advantage of the only thing that we did well today…

Eagles ran the ball 12 times. Westbrook had 6 attempts for 50 yards. Reid kept calling play action passes. Go figure.

Felix is better than Brian. You can call me FIBTB.

what’s with Reid calling out the defense with saying “they tackled better, and I thought they blitzed better?” Last I checked they had two INTs and kept the raiders to 13 points, which I think is certainly nothing to write home about but it is only 13 points. Though I do agree with him when he says they were out-coached.

by We are Legion on Oct 19, 2009 1:17 AM EDT reply actions

I found that interesting as well. I think he’s right in saying the tackling was poor, but its an odd thing for an offensive coach to point out after a game like that.

by JasonB on Oct 19, 2009 7:49 AM EDT up reply actions

the defense made some plays but they couldn’t tackle to save their lives. if it weren’t for the ineptitude of jamarcus russell and the oakland recievers, the raiders would have put up 30 points. to our defenses credit, they did outplay our offense

13 points is great defense if you ask me

good call

“13 points is great defense if you ask me.”

Not if it’s the Raiders.

7 points

belong to trotter alone

so two field goals outside of that the rest of the game is good defense, even if it was helped by russell

if your offense doesnt score a touchdown the entire game and you only lose by 4, its not the defense’s fault

However i just dont understand, we were never out of the Oakland game so why the fuk did he giv up on the run and throw the ball 47 times on a day when donavan couldnt hit shit?

+1

I was never able to watch the game but I looked at stats. It looked to me that the Eagles defense was playing alright except for the pass and run by their TE. Running the ball 12 times and averaging about 5.0 yards a carry…..you stick wiht that and then the pass will open up again too. Throw a few draws in there, screens to loosen them up. LIke I said I was never able to watch the game living in Wisconsin but from what I’m reading and seeing now it looks like by just running the ball a little bit to make their defense guess a little bit instead of pinning their ears back and rushing a makeshift offensive line…….Reid and Co. should know this, I’m just a bum at a computer 5 days a week and I can tell you that.

Am I the only one....

who saw a very weak pass interference call go in our favor? Otherwise it would have been 14-3 in the first quarter. I’m no McNabb hater, but when the O-line looks like swiss cheese and McNabb cannot see down field, it looks like more of an “O” problem than a “Tackling” problem. A little more pressure would have been nice towards the end though. Still nothing like having a lone Raider fan be able to talk shit to 20+ Eagle fans at the local pub. Not sure I can show my face there again.

by NavyGreenFan on Oct 19, 2009 8:33 AM EDT reply actions

Agreed...

That call was bush league. No way that’s pass interference. Then again, the roughing the kicker non-call and the intentional grounding non-call were also huge misses that affected the game as well. The officials had days almost as bad as Reid and McNabb.

We didn’t run the ball good enough

Not really, Westbrook. I think what you meant was “We didn’t run the ball…” and that’s where the sentence should have ended.

That was one of the most poorly coached games I’ve ever seen.

They blew 3 timeouts in the first half, ran the ball 6 times with Westbrook, 5 times with McCoy, and called the dumbest timeout I’ve ever seen with 2:02 left in the game rather than let it go to the 2 minute warning, which essentially allowed the Raiders the use of their entire playbook instead of an obvious running situation.

Reid is good at a lot of things – They usually scheme well against teams all week, and he has certainly built a nice talented team, but when it comes to actual gameday coaching… He’s one of the worst in the NFL, and yesterday was a classic Reid game.

by JimmyK on Oct 19, 2009 8:39 AM EDT reply actions

wow...

it kinda seems to me that this was the textbook definition of looking past an opponent. Unfortunately I had to work & couldnt watch the game but I did TiVo it…cant really say Im excited to see it after watching the highlights(?) on ESPN…i think i will just hit delete instead.
now my rant…HOW THE HELL YOU GONNA LOSE TO THE MOTHA-EFFIN RAIDERS?!?!?!?!?!?!

akers

what westy said is true but please remember that akers missed 2 field goals. hes made some big kicks in his career but this guys leg is old and tired. it is time.

i still think that someone got a hand on one of those kicks

by bula412 on Oct 19, 2009 10:08 AM EDT reply actions

Same old, same old for me

Blame Reid, Blame Morningwheg, Blame Castillo.

At least 2 of these 3 should be terminated. Injuries or no, the Patriots would have won this game by at least 3 TDs; the Saints probably by at least 4. They can execute. The Eagles can’t. They need a big play every possession to score, or it’s a 3 and out.

raiders game

I want to congradulate the raiders for out coaching our so called coaches. Reid you need to stop trying to pass whe n you have a quarterback like mcnabb. He and your offensive coordinator have to be some of the worst at their position. First mcnabb he continues to choke like he did last year. He is still missing open recievers when is reid going to bench him again or is he afraid to do it. Yesterday reid you called out the defense, but remember your play calling sucked and did not use your weapon westbrook, if you would have run the ball there would have been a great chance to win that game. Start Kolb and sit mcnabb or better off lets trade him for some pics and if you call another ball game why dont you hang them up and let a real coach guide the eagles. The way we are playing I do not see our team making the playoffs and finally getting a new coach and quarterback.

by koolkat on Oct 19, 2009 10:16 AM EDT reply actions

and the kolb rumblings begin already. the reason mcnabb missed on so many plays was because he was getting pressured and pummelled all day. when this happens, qb’s start rushing their throws and you get poorly placed balls. how some people don’t understand this is beyond me. our defense has thrived on this strategy for the last decade. kolb would have been eaten alive yesterday

I'm embarrassed to be an Eagles fan this morning

I’ll get over it in a couple days, but until then… fuck you Andy Reid.

The monster at the end of this blog.

Well yippee for you

IMO, everyone associated with the Eagles organization should be embarrassed this morning. I’m a fan of the team, thus in some way associated (I gives ’em money if nothing else) with the organization and am therefore embarrassed.

Plus my boss is a Raiders fan.

i too was embarassed today, but like a good soldier i put on my eagles hat and jacket and ran my errands today. even strangers asked me how i would dare to wear my gear, but they are my team win or lose. nothing wrong with wearing you shame for everyone to see.

Brian Westbrook's comments

So, the Eagles didn’t block, pass, run, or blitz very well. But other than that, they played pretty well.

by common.sense on Oct 19, 2009 11:09 AM EDT reply actions

honesty is one of the better policies

Well at least Reid is honest… not much consolation though for eagles fans… i’d prefer the team played well and he lied….

by toofunny777 on Oct 23, 2009 3:38 PM EDT reply actions

don't know nuch about...

the pressure thing… but it seems like good quaterbacks know how to neutralize a rush… wasn’t there a guy on the eagles some time back named garcia???? had a rag arm and didn’t run that great but he managed to read defenses and use the tools availabel to him very effectively to win… mcnabb like other poor magicians blames the wand… the fact is he just plain sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
