Brian Westbrook sums things up well

"We didn't run the ball good enough, we definitely didn't throw the ball good enough, and we didn't block good enough," the veteran running back said. "We're better than that. We didn't execute our offense very well at all."

When you don't run, throw, or block well... you don't win many games.

Andy Reid's comments were similar.

"They blocked better, they tackled better, and I thought they blitzed better," Reid said. "They did it all and they coached better."

So for those scoring at home we didn't run, pass, block, tackle, blitz, or coach well. That sounds like the game I saw.

4.8 rushing average

Bullcrap. They rushed the ball fine. The coaches didn’t call running plays sufficient to take advantage of the only thing that we did well today…

i second that

Eagles ran the ball 12 times. Westbrook had 6 attempts for 50 yards. Reid kept calling play action passes. Go figure.

Felix is better than Brian. You can call me FIBTB.

what’s with Reid calling out the defense with saying “they tackled better, and I thought they blitzed better?” Last I checked they had two INTs and kept the raiders to 13 points, which I think is certainly nothing to write home about but it is only 13 points. Though I do agree with him when he says they were out-coached.

by We are Legion on Oct 19, 2009 1:17 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I found that interesting as well. I think he’s right in saying the tackling was poor, but its an odd thing for an offensive coach to point out after a game like that.

by JasonB on Oct 19, 2009 7:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

the defense made some plays but they couldn’t tackle to save their lives. if it weren’t for the ineptitude of jamarcus russell and the oakland recievers, the raiders would have put up 30 points. to our defenses credit, they did outplay our offense

13 points is great defense if you ask me

good call

“13 points is great defense if you ask me.”

Not if it’s the Raiders.

7 points

belong to trotter alone

so two field goals outside of that the rest of the game is good defense, even if it was helped by russell

if your offense doesnt score a touchdown the entire game and you only lose by 4, its not the defense’s fault

Yes westy was right. But here is something else to think about. When your Offence throws 90% of the time and your QB blows. then you lose to the worst teams in the NFL. As proven by todays game.

When you can only score 6 points in this day and age of two touch football that is sick. And when you give up 7 points on a turnover. As Mcsuc did then your Offence is -1 for the day. Great Job by a guy that gets paid about 1 million per game.

You sir are an idiot...

Now that we got that clear… not every QB comes out throwing bullets 16 games a year. It is up to the coaches to know what is going on with the game and what adjustments need to be made. Andy has to see that his RB is getting 5+ yards a carry and that his QB is getting torn into with the backup O-line in. That is what was so great about having JJ, his adjustments at halftime to the gameplan in order for the team to win. That is part of being an Eagles fan in the Andy Reid era though. You have to realize if we can’t pass we are not going to win that game because there is no way that Andy abandons the pass.

by IgglesFanDeployd on Oct 19, 2009 5:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Seriously what is so funny about Reid and the passing game is that even if it isn’t working he will throw all the more just to prove to everyone else that it works (which we all know rarely happens).
I agree with you that there were relatively no adjustments on the offensive side of the ball. I certainly think McNabb could have been better, but I think this loss is based on faulty gameplan.

by We are Legion on Oct 19, 2009 8:21 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i second the notion that 5gohome is an idiot. mcnabb was bad, but he wasn’t the only one. the line couldn’t block anyone, mcnabb was getting killed back there. when they could block, mcnabb was off target half the time. when he was on target, the recievers couldn’t get open or catch the ball. everyone has a hand in this one. except westbrook. he was the only player who seemed to be having a good day

by bula412 on Oct 19, 2009 10:06 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

you my friend, are an idiot

And thats a big fat NO to a newsletter.

Blame Andy for not running the ball at the WORST rushing defense in the league. 8+ per carry and 2 backup tackles on the line. Don’t be a moron. You’re just a McNabb hater and therefore lose all credibility right off the bat. The line and the playcalling is what killed us. Don’t get me wrong McNabb had a bad game and missed some throws, but it was due to all the pressure and the poor play calling…and we still should have won if it wasn’t for the worst 2 minute drill in all of football.

And coupled with the fact that the best part of the entire Raiders team is their D-line.

by 5 plus 10 equals 6 on Oct 19, 2009 10:18 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The playcalling more than the line

The Raiders have a pretty top flight secondary and some decent pass rushers. They have an awful run defense. Somehow Andy looked at that and said “Let’s go with an 80/20 pass/run ratio”. That’s just terrible, terrible coaching. Best ways to slow a pass rush: screen passes and running plays. We were never down by enough points to necessitate abandoning the running game.

FWIW, I think 5gohome’s newsletter could be a fascinating read. It would be the poorly spelled, punctuated and edited, fantasyland ramblings of an incompetent, but I can’t say there wouldn’t be some entertainment value in that.

Revoke Andys Cheesesteak license...............

and ill bet u that will get him 2 run the freakin ball. Even tho Andy is a complete ASSCLOWN i am not one of these morons screamin 4 him to be axed. However i just dont understand, we were never out of the Oakland game so why the fuk did he giv up on the run and throw the ball 47 times on a day when donavan couldnt hit shit?

+1

I was never able to watch the game but I looked at stats. It looked to me that the Eagles defense was playing alright except for the pass and run by their TE. Running the ball 12 times and averaging about 5.0 yards a carry…..you stick wiht that and then the pass will open up again too. Throw a few draws in there, screens to loosen them up. LIke I said I was never able to watch the game living in Wisconsin but from what I’m reading and seeing now it looks like by just running the ball a little bit to make their defense guess a little bit instead of pinning their ears back and rushing a makeshift offensive line…….Reid and Co. should know this, I’m just a bum at a computer 5 days a week and I can tell you that.

by slandog on Oct 19, 2009 11:00 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Am I the only one....

who saw a very weak pass interference call go in our favor? Otherwise it would have been 14-3 in the first quarter. I’m no McNabb hater, but when the O-line looks like swiss cheese and McNabb cannot see down field, it looks like more of an “O” problem than a “Tackling” problem. A little more pressure would have been nice towards the end though. Still nothing like having a lone Raider fan be able to talk shit to 20+ Eagle fans at the local pub. Not sure I can show my face there again.

by NavyGreenFan on Oct 19, 2009 8:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed...

That call was bush league. No way that’s pass interference. Then again, the roughing the kicker non-call and the intentional grounding non-call were also huge misses that affected the game as well. The officials had days almost as bad as Reid and McNabb.

We didn’t run the ball good enough

Not really, Westbrook. I think what you meant was “We didn’t run the ball…” and that’s where the sentence should have ended.

That was one of the most poorly coached games I’ve ever seen.

They blew 3 timeouts in the first half, ran the ball 6 times with Westbrook, 5 times with McCoy, and called the dumbest timeout I’ve ever seen with 2:02 left in the game rather than let it go to the 2 minute warning, which essentially allowed the Raiders the use of their entire playbook instead of an obvious running situation.

Reid is good at a lot of things – They usually scheme well against teams all week, and he has certainly built a nice talented team, but when it comes to actual gameday coaching… He’s one of the worst in the NFL, and yesterday was a classic Reid game.

by Bye, Dawk :( on Oct 19, 2009 8:39 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

WORST Crunch-time coach EVER.

Can’t agree more that Reid absolutely SUCKS at making in-game adjustments. When things aren’t going right, he always reverts to the ol’ lets see if Donnie can bail us out by throwing the ball 90% the rest of the game. It just baffles me year after year that Andy will NOT commit whatsoever to the running game and abandons it even more when Mac5 is under center. I truly feel if we had run the same type of play calling that we run when say..Garcia was starting for us we’d be a much better, ball control, productive offense. And…westy was our best player yesterday…inexcusable.

Like the Fatman absolutely ignores ball control, clock management, and most importantly the running game. The lead was never more than a TD and if he had faith in the running game we could’ve worn their D-line down like the rest of the league does/has done hence the 31st ranking in run defense. Their offense still sucks thank god, which kept us in the game, but we couldn’t make or even call the plays that were necessary to still pull out the win.

Andy is a great coach and great GM, but holy fucking shit does he suck HARDcore at certain coaching intangibles.,.in game adjustments, clock management, run game, ball control, NOT going into panic mode.

I would add team motivation against lousy teams to that list

When was the last time you saw the Pats play down to a scrub team. They smell blood in the water and look to pad their stats. The Eagle sleepwalk thru three quarters and the look like a monkey f-ing a football trying to pull out a last minute win…which they usually don’t.

I bleed green and I piss silver and blue

Mmmh, interesting...

Do you remember my post about how Reid wasn’t a strength for your team and all the crap that you threw at such a comment? If he’s one of the worst coaches at something (in your opinion), he really isn’t a strength…

BTW, my only comment about your team L… The Overtime W against the Chiefs sounds much better. Other than that, your team rebounds well from that kind of Ls and I think that we will see history repeating itself.

I disagree. They were going to do that play regardless. They had nothing to lose really. I doubt they were scared that the Eagles would go down and score.

That is not why we lost anyway- not running the ball was.

Same old, same old for me

Blame Reid, Blame Morningwheg, Blame Castillo.

At least 2 of these 3 should be terminated. Injuries or no, the Patriots would have won this game by at least 3 TDs; the Saints probably by at least 4. They can execute. The Eagles can’t. They need a big play every possession to score, or it’s a 3 and out.

raiders game

I want to congradulate the raiders for out coaching our so called coaches. Reid you need to stop trying to pass whe n you have a quarterback like mcnabb. He and your offensive coordinator have to be some of the worst at their position. First mcnabb he continues to choke like he did last year. He is still missing open recievers when is reid going to bench him again or is he afraid to do it. Yesterday reid you called out the defense, but remember your play calling sucked and did not use your weapon westbrook, if you would have run the ball there would have been a great chance to win that game. Start Kolb and sit mcnabb or better off lets trade him for some pics and if you call another ball game why dont you hang them up and let a real coach guide the eagles. The way we are playing I do not see our team making the playoffs and finally getting a new coach and quarterback.

by koolkat on Oct 19, 2009 10:16 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

and the kolb rumblings begin already. the reason mcnabb missed on so many plays was because he was getting pressured and pummelled all day. when this happens, qb’s start rushing their throws and you get poorly placed balls. how some people don’t understand this is beyond me. our defense has thrived on this strategy for the last decade. kolb would have been eaten alive yesterday

the pressure thing… but it seems like good quaterbacks know how to neutralize a rush… wasn’t there a guy on the eagles some time back named garcia???? had a rag arm and didn’t run that great but he managed to read defenses and use the tools availabel to him very effectively to win… mcnabb like other poor magicians blames the wand… the fact is he just plain sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
