Eagles are a 8-8 team..IF they are lucky
Eagles are not who we thought they were...not even close.
The Offense...
Our offensive line cant open up any holes for the running game and arent even that great in pass protection. We cant run and if we could we wouldn't...welcome to Andy Reid.
Leonard Weaver is wasted on this team...he never gets the ball thrown his way and there is no running game for him to block for. Brian Westbrook is done and Lesean Mckoy is just a rookie. Outside of the one game Mckoy had against a bad KC team he hasnt shown much at all. Gone are the days where westbrrook can carry us...its just not happening. Desean and Celek are very good players who will produce. Mcnabb has reverted to his pre baltimore benching form from last year. But I am not putting it on him...no running game AT ALL can be a big problem for any QB not named Peyton Manning or Drew Brees. Both who are FAR more talented than Mcnabb. Im not saying Mcnabb isnt good...but he is not in the same league with those two...neither is anyone else so far.
Oh and the whole Michale Vick fiasco is a complete fucking waste of time. Nothing but a huge distraction and hasnt done anything for this offense other than ruin whatever rhythym if any it may have. Putting Vick in on two drives completely killed both of the drives.
The Defense...
We have a very solid D line and very good cornerbacks and one great safety. Our linebacking corps are awful. Trotter looks slow and doesnt seem to have gotten "it" back...time will tell. Im not going to rag on the D too much here though...Akers sucked today and the offense was terrible. D was on the field the entire game and we all know what that does to even the best defenses.
Look at the rest of the Eagles schedule...no way we make the playoffs. Here are all the teams better than the Eagles right now...
Giants,Vikings,Saints,Bears,Packers,Falcons,49ers,Cardinals.

That trick doesn’t really work though.
The Lions beat the Redskins a couple weeks ago. We play the Redskins on Monday. Does that mean if the Redskins beat us, that the Lions are automatically better than us?

Giants beat Kansas City by 11 we beat them by 20 … these games can be considered measuring sticks but … “Any given Sunday” corny yet true.

I'm with you
It’s a hiccup for sure but not very meaningful in the overall evaluation of this team. Is Oakland really better than the Eagles? Definitely not, this was just one of those “one in a hundred” situations and probably wouldn’t happen again. We’re the same team that people were praising last week, we just had a sub-par week.

Thank you
so damn much. It’s too bad most people here are officially on the “ZOMG, THIS TEAM IS TERRIBLE” wagon. It’s ridiculous. One loss in WEEK SIX does NOT mean our season’s over.
Honestly, we’re Eagles fans. This was bound to happen, either now or later in the season. And what do we do after these things happen? We come back, and we come back big.
Once again: Relax.

Crazy!
But we could actually do it if we can keep guys healthy.
The scary thing this year is the good likelihood that wildcards come from the North and South. We may have to win the division to see the post season

Still TOO EARLY!..but 9-7
But….I said that we would be a 9-7 team. I said this at the beginning of the season. Becuz over the years I’ve come to realize that this team is not consistent!! EVER!
But u know what..9-7 is not bad as long as we make it to the playoffs!
I want Reid and the Birds to prove me wrong.!! I realllly want them too! Im not surprised thus far in the season. It looks like the TYPICAL Andy Reid coached Eagles team.
All that matters is the outcome. And I NEED them to prove me wrong. It STILL EARLY!

wow one disappointment and everyone bails seriously shut up people, I love how everyone was bragging about all the weapons we had last week and our unstoppable offense and defense last week. This is exactly what happened last season after we lost to baltimore typical of half the fans to jump off the bandwagon when the team isn’t hot.
by fhqwagads on Oct 18, 2009 9:53 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
No Doubt
its obvious that if the team doesnt do good, then the fans will get pissed and will sometimes abandon their teams (temporarily for the most part i hope). However, even though it was stupid for eagles fan last year to blame mcnabb for everything includin the baltimore game and the cincinatti game, it wasnt without reason. I mean, 5-5-1….who thought that a 5-5-1 team would have a winning record much less make it all the way to the NFCG? last season was a one in a million season, and because of the success, fans are once again hyping up for another superbowl run. so its all good….just let the eagles do their things and we’ll atleast make the playoffs with a 10-6 or 11-5 record
If I'm goin' to hell, you're coming with me...

not unfounded though 700
i mean think were 3-2 right now…3 wins against USELESS teams a loss that SHOULD have been a win against another USELESS team(which i think is more of a statement than the following) And a loss against a very upper tier team. The one time we fcaed off against a QUALITY opponenet we got our asses handed to us. And now todays game…..certainly doesnt evoke a sense of confidence that were anything more than a mediocre team at best , despite all of our talent.

8-8
No way. I am disappointed, to say the least, but in no way are the Eagles an 8-8 team. We can lay all the blame we want on any particular facet of this team. The coaches called the wrong plays, the line didn’t perform at all, McNabb looked more like Ty Detmer, the reicievers looked like they had cement hands, the defense was confused, etc., etc., etc….. The fact that we are all forgetting is that this game was supposed to be easy. The coaches and players alike relaxed this week and did not prepare for this contest. They trudged out on the field, like many of us will tomorrow, with not the task at hand in the forefront of their mind, but what comes next. I, for one, am actually glad that this happened and feel that the organization will not let this happen again. The next time the Eagles get beat they won’t lose because they were unprepared, but rather they were outplayed. I don’t think there are many teams in the NFL that can beat a determined team like the Eagles. If you need a reference look at last year when they were 5-5-1.

Dude!
One: Saints now have a running game! (Showed against the G-Men)
Two: The Saints and Vikes are better than us…the rest aren’t that good….bears and falcons game was very sloppy and if ethier of them played even a little better teams, both of them would have 2 losses! Niners arent that good and the Packers are flat…calm down….

That you can predict this team coming out of the season with a winning record after that performance, with Jason Peters rumored to have a serious injury that can make him miss a lot of time…
…it just reeks of optimism. Sorry, not enough of that to go around today.

Every year Andy finds a way to coach down to his opponent, and this week was one of those games. Right when the running game was getting warmed up in the 4th qtr, Andy has a brain fart and starts with his “pass on 1st, run on 2nd” play calling.
I’m eternally optimistic, but there really are issues this team has to worry about.
- For starters, you can’t teach speed and this group of LB’s are slloooooww.
- Secondly, the defensive tackling has been atrocious! They are trying to give a lot of highlight hits but failing to bring down the receivers. Luckily, tackling can be taught and re-taught. The Eagles tackled a lot better after their weak tackling effort against the Saints.
- Repeated costly penalties = lack of discipline. Again, this can be taught, but they have yet to show any discipline on special teams and defense.
- Injuries. I know every team is dealing with this, but A LOT of key players seem to be coming up lame for the Eagles. Will we ever see Stacy, the other Andrews sister? The offensive line was terrible.
- Play calling, or lack thereof. Andy is so stubborn that he can’t get out of his own way. Just when the running game got going, Andy abandoned it. He can’t say it wasn’t effective when he never gave it a shot to materialize.
With all this being said, the depth of this team is what will keep it a contender all year long. They obviously have the talent. They just need to all show up together regularly from now on. There is no way they should have lost this game to this team.
The idea that they are an 8-8 team is ludicrous.
Smack it up, flip it, rub it down... OH NOOOooo!

13 points was fortunate
I realized we only gave up 13 points but it should have been more. Russell despite a few good plays has no touch or accuracy on his passes. He had multiple times to hit WRs and threw bad ones or had them dropped (same goes for McNabb). Trotter cannot handle a TE or RB in coverage period.
Also Samuel cannot tackle unless the runner trips over him. Both Samuel and #27 QM had the dumb PF penalties. I believe we can correct some of the overall mistakes if we run the ball more on offense (and play Trotter less on D). But I am feeling cautiously optimistic. We really haven’t beaten anyone that is doing well. And just lost to a team that has been classified as horrible.
Please let Peters be okay and give the ball to Westbrook (and teach McCoy how to pickup a blitz).

What we have here...
Is an extreme pessemist. This is just one loss. Don’t get me wrong, I’m as sick as anyone about this, but the whole NFC East had a bad weekend. We were overconfident. Plain and simple.
Bears, Packers, Cardinals better than us? You have no sense.
"Backs in the 'I'...First and 10...McNabb, play action. Is back again. He is looking..he is going deep. He wants DeSean Jackson..who HAS IT!!! HE HAS IT!!! AND STEPPED INTO THE ENDZONE!! He took it away from the defender!! He took it away from Dominique Rogers-Cromarte, and ran into the endzone!!"

Oh I see how it goes...
So if I call out the Eagles on their oh so obvious deficiencies I am not a fan ? Nonsense. I love the Eagles and have for quite some time now. Just because I dont like the direction they are going in doesnt mean I am not a fan.
If you cant stop the run and you cant run the ball…YOU CANT WIN IN THIS LEAGUE AGAINST GOOD TEAMS.
Unless….you have Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Drew Bress as your QB AND their receivers. We dont have either…McNabb is not in the same league as any of those guys and our receivers are not as good as those receivers. We have one really good receiver, a very good TE and a promising rookie.
I just dont see it from this team yet….If we had the O line we were supposed to have AND Shawn Bradley in the middle on D it would be a WHOLE DIFFERENT BALLGAME.
And by the way…I judge the Eagles on whether or not they can win the superbowl. Not whether they are better than the bears or falcons or cowboys.
There are 3 teams that right now are head and shoulders above the eagles…
Saints Giants and Vikes and probably Arizona is a little better also.
Thats the reality…I still love the Eagles…but I just dont see it with the team as of right now. Unfortunately injuries happen and the Eagles have been hit in places where they dont have enough depth.

Shawn Bradley
You are saying a 37 year old 7’6" retired basketball player is the answer to our MLB issue … why hasn’t Andy thought of this????
You can all out the Eagles all you want but you can’t make statements like
Brian Westbrook is doneand expect no backlash I mean the guy averaged 8.3 yards per carry thats 50 yards on 6 carries … and had 10.1 yards per reception or 9 receptions for 91 yards that does not equal done for fuck sake he had 141 yards of our 283 net yards that’s almost 50% my friend … far from done.

well...
let me rephrase that…Brian Westbrook isnt done…the Brian westbrook we have come to know and love is done..much like Ladanian Tomlinson. Hes still a good back but really seems to be only about 75 percent of what he was. You can see it on the field…Still good…not great. Sunday…the Eagles needed GREAT. I dont believe he has that gear anymore, not consistently. And Shawn Bradley as out middle linebacker would be reallty entertaining to watch…for about one play :)

you know what on second thought…I agree with you SFCEAGFAN—-the eagles ae going to go 9-2 their final 11 games. Heck even if they lose Monday…that’s ok because the Eagles will then be going 9-1 in their last 10 because they are so awesome !
