Early games open thread
A heavyweight matchup in the Bayou between the undefeated Saints and Giants highlights the early schedule of NFL games today.
The other game of note to Eagles fans will be the Redskins hosting the Kansas City Chiefs. The winless Chiefs put a great fight against Dallas last week, can they finish off the Skins this week and get their first win?
Baltimore at Minnesota which features two ex Eagles coaches should be a good game as well.

Ravens at Vickings might be a good game, but all the washing of Favre’s balls will make it unwatchable. I’d much rather see Giants @ Saints, but instead of watching a division rival in a game pitting probably the two best teams in the conference if not the league, I get four hours of grown men deep-throating an elderly hillbilly.
If you got Gints Sints you wouldn’t get Eagles Raiders.
I’m not sure why people still don’t understand the doubleheader rules.

Open question
And not sure I have a definitive opinion here yet.
Seeing what you’ve seen to date would you have rather had Percy Harvin or Jeremy Maclin?

Great question..
Honestly, I dunno. Percy has been productive since Day 1. But Maclin has that big play ability…

If anyone still thinks signing dawkins would've been the right move
Look no further to the big time “leader” in Ray Lewis as his defense gets plowed. Mean while the young stud Bart Scott is leading a pretty formidable Jets defense in NY.

Joe Flacco is having a bit of a sophmore slump. Frankly, I thought he was overrated last year and I think he’s getting exposed a bit this time around.
The Raves are asking him to do too much this year – they’ve moved away from running as much s they did last year and don’t have the receivers to be as dependant on the pass as they want to be.

I read somewhere
That they offered KC and 2nd and 4th for Dwayne Bowe
Not sure I agree – he’s playing a tough defense and his weapons are less than lethal.
It’s certainly going to get harder for QBs like Flacco, Ryan & Sanchez as teams collect more film on them and identify their tendencies.

I don't think the Giants defense is what it was
They looked good playing bad teams… But its clear that they are depleted… Guess it took a good team to expose that
Every fracking week, I get stuck with the raiders game no matter who the opponent…it’s usually irritating and pisses me off being in this god forsaken hole of a raiders/49ers/rams/chargers market.
EXCEPT FOR THIS WEEK…the only week i WANT to see a raiders game, fox goes early game on the west coast…which is asinine

Doubtful. They’re in the NFC. Most of the writers are still convinced the AFC is superior, hence AFC teams keep leading the power polls
But all the national writers are in love with the Giants. If the Saints trounce the GIants today, the national media will get on board.
It’s not like it matters…power polls are mostly created to stir fan debate and clicks to web sites.
The players really dont’ care I’m sure – they care about the 3/4 game tournament in january…that’s the only ‘poll’ that counts

After the Saints game, he said he wished he’d blitzed more; the Giants are not blitzing at all, and it looks like Peyton out there, just finding open targets
Fun fact: The Kansas City Star has a policy that it doesnt print the word “Redskins”, instead they use “Washington football team.”

my concern is who is going to keep it close?
the eagle hung in there for a half and then everything went to hell. the giants appear to be no match from the start.
Do they need to? They seem—at this point—just as comfortable playing shoot out style like the GSOT Rams, or the Billick Vikings. “Okay,” said Brees, “they scored. Now it’s out turn. They can’t catch us if we stay ahead.”
Just wondering out loud really – not saying they have to – but if there’s a close game – and you WANT to run some clock time – can they?

Wow, Aikman doesn’t know the game. A safety involves a free kick BACK to the Saints. Thus, in no was does a fumble and safety help. NO gets the ball regadless, and guaranteed points on the board vs. the potential of a TD.
Idiot
3 is more than 2
And in all likelihood the saints probably don’t score after the safety ‘punt off’ with limited seconds and one time out.
So it was stupid argument but probably accurate…Saints get a minimum of 3 off this TO probably – whereas the safety is 2 – it’s weak but probably an accurate argument

But he was bitching that the Giants should have the ball, since it was recovered in the endzone—despite the safety. That’s just…dumb. And this from a guy who criticized McNabb for not knowing the overtime rules.
Ok – that part I missed – tht was kind of silly of him…

I feel so much better about the Eagles loss to the Saints if the Giants are having this much trouble.

I’m never good about a loss, but I had much the same thought myself.
Seriously – the Eagles were actually still in the Saints game at halftime…

right?!!!
however….how stupid are saints fans? They cheerted at the down by contact ruling….i would have taken the safety…than you have a potential 9 points instead of 7
You dont like my IGGLES???!!!! well you can just suck my VICK!
by northern eagle on Oct 18, 2009 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions
Huh? 18 seconds and one time out – the saints most likely down the ball after the punt…there’s no likely 9 points

now now
lets not get personal on eachother…were all eagles fans…but seriously ..look at it this way..with a safety you are GUARANTEED 2 points with the potential for 3-7 more. With the down ruling yes they GOT 7 points , but they could have walked away with nothing…just saying

Definitely
The score at the half was 17-13. Maybe our defense is better than we thought. With McNabb in there, and no fumble by Hobbs, the game might have been closer. I think we could’ve won it, and I think we’ll win a rematch.
curius? to qoute Denny Green
THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!!!!!!!! cept we wont let them off the hook.
Division games are really a different entity. I don’t know why, but even the worst teams can play well if it’s against a division rival.

dre brees 17-20, 247 yds, 3 tds
some of the scariest numbers of a first half i’ve ever seen, clearly our D is better than the giants

Somebody on the FO board made an interesting point: Since the Saints had established possession, would a fumble recovered by the Giants in the endzone be a touchback?
yes

THAT’s what I thought. It’s just as if there is a turnover within a turnover. It’s a fresh set of downs, etc etc.

Maybe Aikman isn’t such a retard? On this issue, at least.

Agreed. I was wrong.
I retract that particular complaint over his idiocy. I reserve the right to point out the multitude of others, however. :)
Front page of NFL.com has the Saints-Giants game as a “shoot-out”. I’ll call it a “blow-out”.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
could become a blow-out but the game isn’t over, 17 points at the half isn’t insurmountable

He’s a rookie, he’s supposed to be abused by Allen, but on a key ply he wins the battle, that’s a good thing :)

If you shove a guy in the back – that’s a block in the back right? How is that not called against the trailing receiver on the vikings long gain?
