Pepsi Rookie of the Week awards

I was absolutely shocked this week to read that once again none other than Knowshon Moreno won the Pepsi Rookie of the week award.  I don't see how on Earth Knowshon deserved it both weeks he won it, and same goes for Mark Sanchez I think he only played well enough to earn it the first week.  I honestly thought Jeremy Maclin had it in the bag for this week, but once again it comes down to Knowshon Moreno or Mark Sanchez, and I don't see what they did to earn it.  I thought the competition for this week wasn't even there Sanchez didn't win his game, Moreno didn't have like a 100 yard rushing game and he fumbled the ball, and Collie and Nicks were both under 100 yards.  Maclin stood out like a sore thumb with 142 yards and 2 touchdowns, and instead a guy fumbled the ball both weeks gets the award.  I'm sure Denver fans would argue for their guy, but it just irritates me.  I know the award probably means less than the production but I like to see our players get respect and recognition for what they do.

Wow

Complete bull. Maclin deserved that hands down. What a joke.

maclin won't.

it all comes down to whoever has a better record (either moreno or sanchez). unless maclin finishes the year with 80 and 1200, i don’t see it happening.

completely agree

I think its horrible that Moreno got rookie of the week award. I mean the guy is good and I hoped back in April that we will draft either him or Donald Brown, but come on! 0 TDs, he had combined over 100 yards and he didnt play any significant role in that game. Eventhough we played Bucs, it is still a significant record for a rookie to have 6 receptions for 142 yards and 2 TDs. Ispecially his second TD catch was nice.
On the other side we should remember that it is fans who vote, so I guess there were more Broncos fans that voted, then Eagles, Colts or other fans.

Here's the breakdown as I see it

1. Maclin vs Collie: Collie had 2 more grabs, but 1 less TD, and 40+ fewer yards than Maclin…edge: Maclin

2. Maclin vs Nicks: this isn’t even comparable! Maclin had 2 receptions, 93yds, and a TD MORE than Nicks…edge: Maclin

3. Maclin vs Sanchez: Sanchez only completed 12 passes, for 174 yards and 1 TD. Maclin caught half as many as Sanchez completed for only 30yds less and another TD…edge: Maclin

4. Maclin vs Moreno: Moreno had 124 all purpose yards with no TDs and a lost fumble. You could TRY to argue that he was a larger staple of their offense than Maclin b/c he did carry the ball 21 times and caught 4 passes. Bottom line, he didn’t even get into the endzone! Edge: Maclin.

No one this week even came close. If Maclin didn’t win this week, there’s no chance.

Are these awards given out solely by fan choice?

Blame the fact that most of the country forgot about the sparsely-used Maclin. JM obviously deserved it (Moreno had 128 total yards but no TDs), but internet polls are all about the sexy names.

Maclin won't get ROY

because he’ll continue to be underutilized. And don’t let record fool you. Sanchez has a huge advantage simply being in NYC. Moreno will have to severely outperform him to win, and even then it might not matter.
