Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

I didn't have enough time to do a write up on this but thought it was interesting none the less. Please share.

I thought it was interesting

Especially the bit about the break down of LE,LT,M,RT,RE … seems like Winston Justice is doing pretty well run blocking over on that right side.

Observations

Power success

Percentage of runs on third or fourth down, two yards or less to go, that achieved a first down or touchdown. Also includes runs on first-and-goal or second-and-goal from the two-yard line or closer. This is the only statistic on this page that includes quarterbacks.

We are at 71%. NFL Average is 63%. That is good news, since last year stuff like that was our achilles heel.

Stuffed

Percentage of runs where the running back is tackled at or behind the line of scrimmage. Since being stuffed is bad, teams are ranked from stuffed least often (#1) to most often (#32).

We rank five…again, a big plus, since last year we got stuffed a lot when it mattered most.

Pass protection is pretty good…some room for improvement, but top ten nonetheless.

Finally, based on their adjusted line yards, our line actually does a great job of making running room. Maybe if we wanted/needed to we’d be able to impose our will upon other teams?

Wow. Miami converts 89% of short yardage situations into a first down or a touchdown. I wonder how many of those conversions are from the Wildcat package, that would be interesting to see.

As for our Eagles, what strikes me is that only 36 out of our total 357 rushing yards have been gained after rushing for at least 10 yards. To me that means we either have poor blocking down the field, or we just aren’t rushing the ball enough to break loose with a long run.

I would like to see 10-15 more running plays per game, but realistically that won’t happen any time soon.

The thing is

When McNabb is running the offense (two games now), the offense is so damned good we don’t even have to worry about making these numbers jive.

If we ever run into offensive problems with our top quarterback on the field, then yes, balance is crucial. But until then, stay unstoppable gentlemen.
