Eagles=Democrats; rest of NFC East=Republicans
Thought this was interesting enough to share.
I don't really care much about this whole Rush Limbaugh bit, as its bringing national politics into a sport that really doesn't need or want it.
Plus he slammed McNabb with a racist comment, and that is unforgivable.

I’m really tired of this if what Rush Limbaugh said about Donovan McNabb is considered racist than Obama’s comments about Asians being short is racist as well.
Racism unfortunately exists in this world but it’s a two way street.
Freedom of speech is all I can say nothing about Limbaughs comments were hateful, it was a perception if you disagree with this perception fine but just because it involved race doesn’t make it racists.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way

I agree with you. This was a matter of perception, and just because it involved race doesn’t necessarily make it racist.
However, Rush used his own words to create the situation and create the perception that he had made a racist statement. Making a racist statement or creating the perception that you made a racist statement is one and the same. Rush should have known better, and should have chosen his words more carefully. He’s a smart guy, smart enough to know that his statements would rub a lot of people the wrong way. And yes, maybe his wording could have been much more racist, but at the same time it could have been a lot less.
As a professional and a spokesman, he has a responsibility over the words he chooses, and in this case he showed very poor judgement. His comments had a racist undertone to them, and given the full context of the situation, he must be held responsible.
He’s made racist comments before and after the McNabb commets. He offended McNabb, the target of his criticism, who perceived the comments as racist. The NFL, ESPN (who apologized afterwards), and most of the media perceived the comments as racist.
This was a prepared commentary by Rush. Not a spur of the moment statement. Shame on him for not understanding/caring that many would take offense to it. Shame on ESPN for letting it happen. I remember watching it live and being shocked by it, and being even more disappointed in the other ESPN commentators for simply nodding their heads and awkwardly smiling at it (I’m talking to you, Steve Young).
The whole affair was a mistake. Rush never apologized or admitted to it. It was ugly and should never have happened. And unless Rush apologizes to McNabb, it is totally unforgivable.
And worst of all, Rush unfairly slammed our quarterback. That’s my quarterback (sniff, sniff)!

Should he have to? Because you feel he was wrong he should apologize?
I have been pretty vocal on this site when people say things that push the race lines and I don’t put up with much in my every day life when it comes to the subject. But I also agree with free speech and I do not see where this statement crosses the lines.
When asked if black quarterbacks face more pressure in the media
If we are ready to hold Limbaugh accountable for his comments that the media is easier on McNabb because he is black you better be ready to hold McNabb accountable for his comments that the media is harder on him because he is black.
“There’s not that many African-American quarterbacks, so we have to do a little bit extra,” McNabb said. At the start of Week 3, six of the 32 teams had black starting quarterbacks.
Brown pressed McNabb for an explanation. “I pass for 300 yards,” McNabb said, “our team wins by seven, ‘Ah, he could’ve made this throw, they would have scored if he did this.’”
Brown asked: “Doesn’t every quarterback go through that?”
“Not everybody,” McNabb replied. “Let me start by saying I love those guys, but they don’t get criticized as much as we do. They don’t.”
I fucking hate Rush Limbaugh but I just don’t see how this is bad. I specifically do not think he should have to apologize for a right given to all of us.

I’m not saying he “has” to apologize. But I’m not going to forgive the guy unless he does. Until then he’s a smug, shit-tossing bigot in my book (not that he or anyone else should care).
For the record, I think McNabb was wrong in his statements (I liked KSK response here).

Rush said that the NFL looks like a war between the Bloods and Crips, without weapons. What was he referring to there?
When a black female caller got on his bad side, he told her to “Take the bone out of your nose” — would he have said that to a white caller, and if so, why?
I agree – if the only thing Rush said was about McNabb, he should be let be. But a minor maybe/maybe not racist remark, when held to the light of his previous comments, seem to make a damning trend.
For the record, I don’t claim that Rush himself is necessarily racist, I think he panders to members of his audience who are. I don’t thin he believes in anything but the almighty dollar.

I was never ever ever arguing that Rush Limbaugh is or is not a racist I hate the fucking guy personally … my argument was that what he said about McNabb is not IMHO racist. I think he is a bigot but his comments regarding the media and McNabb were not racist.

Maybe it's time people get tougher skin
I mean there are always times when something is obviously racist, but anymore it seems like if you are even withing the zipcode of the line it’s instantly racism.
I had a buddy tell me the other day that there is nothing he hates more than rich white people. It irritated me that he said it, but he’s the one thats ignorant. I didnt have to start some fight with him to try to put those words back in his mouth. I just laughed at him. Just becuase he thinks a certain thing doesnt make it true.
Why couldnt Donnie Mac have just laughed about the ignorant comments that Rush made?
Maybe what i’m trying to say doesnt make any sense but i’m just tired of race having to be this big of an issue. Its 2009. can we not just move on?

Rush made a public attack on Donovan, and Donovan had to respond, otherwise we’d be calling him weak, or worse that he accepted the comments.
Similar to when Fuzzy Zoeller made those similar, albeit more obvious racist comments against Tiger. Tiger had to respond, or we would have thought less of him as a man.
I get what you are saying, though, and I get sick and tired of hearing the crying hearts and seeing race get thrown into the arena so easily. But in this clase it is pretty clear to me that a racist statement was made by a bigot asshole who I hope goes away.

it wasn’t a public attack he said that McNabb was getting all the credit when in fact the team was winning the games not one player.

where is the racism in this statement because I cannot see it.
“Sorry to say this, I don’t think he’s been that good from the get-go,” Limbaugh said. “I think what we’ve had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn’t deserve. The defense carried this team.”
Is Limbaugh’s perception of how the media handles McNabb true? I don’t think so, I don’t think he gets off easy because of his skin color. If anything IMHO McNabb gets hit tougher by the media than white QBs (he also brings a lot of this on himself).

So here’s my translation of this:
Don isn’t that good of an employee, but he is popular here in the office and people like him because he is black, and a lot of people are pulling for him to succeed
If I heard someone say that at work. Immediate reaction is that it’s a racist viewpoint and doesn’t belong here.
Now put that in the mouth of someone who’s made racists comments before, and it makes it even worse.

you are stretching … different views I suppose we will never change.
I am pulling for Obama to succeed mostly because he is my president now but also because he is part black and it would be a good step forward, and a step back if he fails. If someone told me I was pulling for Obama because he was black they would be partly telling the truth and I would not think that racist of them at all.

So here’s mytranslationof this:
Maybe you shouldnt try to translate a statement that is already in english
Brent Celek is the man
by 700 Level on Oct 14, 2009 1:52 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
What do you mean by that?!?!?
Are you implying that english isn’t my first language?!?
You don’t understand how hard it is having immigrated to the US when I was two years old. I had to work extra harder than the other kids at school on my ABC’s. Some of the teacher’s were pulling for me to succeed, but others were harder in their criticism of me.
It’s so unfair. /sigh
Anyways, I’m about done with this whole topic (different views, blah, blah blah). But I think my big takeaway is that both Rush and McNabb took complete opposite views in separate unrelated statements on pretty much the same topic:
- Rush: The press is going easy on Donovan because he’s black.
- Don: The press is going hard on me because he’s black.
Since I’m not the press, I really don’t know. But I hope both are wrong.

omg
Are you implying that english isn’t my first language?!?
you totally just proved my entire point. You took a statement and made it something offensive… which it TOTALLY was not.
I was making a play on words… your word “translating”. Basically to say that his statement was in english and it was easy to understand and didnt need someone to try to “put meaning” to it.

totally intentional, dude
I tried to take all the finer points in our little discussion here: laughing it off, overblown reactions, misinterpreted insults, etc… etc… and conclude this thread in a cute little response.
Truth is (like Whodie) I hate that fat bloated bag of air, and I’m sorry we’ve spent so much time discussing him. I hope he gets has fat ass stuck in a port-a-john, and needs a publically shown rescue to get him out (actually, nah, I’d rather not see that).
Truth is (like many people) I also love humor attacking stereotypes (white, black, asian, whatever) so long as it is: a) funny, and b) doesn’t offend anyone directly.
And on that note, has anyone heard any good <—insert your favorite ethnicity here—> jokes lately?

He's not saying anything demeaning about Mcnabb
If anything he’s criticizing the media, not McNabb. It’s not racist to point out social differences when one’s ethnicity is being treated differently from another, it’s racist to treat a person different because of their ethnicity.

If Jay-Z can own the NJ Nets then why cant Limbaugh own the Rams
Honestly they are both very opinionated and I am sure that neither of them are racist. People can twist what they say and make it seem racist or whatever but seriously money is money, and pro sports is a business.
