Young CB McCauley Brought in for Evaluation
It appears th
e Eagles are looking to build upon their secondary some more, as young CB Marcus McCauley was invited to Philadelphia to undergo a brief workout and examination by several of the team’s staff members. Earlier today, the Birds signed rookie corner Stoney Woodson to the practice squad to add emergency depth in the defensive backfield, and now it appears there could be another transaction made to improve the club’s Cornerback depth (which has lately been dented with injuries).
McCauley (pictured) was selected as a high-potential defender in the 3rd round of the 2007 Draft by the Minnesota Vikings (who, by the way, have tended to develop some quality coverage men as of late), and recorded 64 tackles and a few pass deflections in his rookie season, off of 9 starting opportunities. Despite this promising freshman performance, McCauley was limited to a reserve role in 2008, and ultimately released by the team on this year’s final cut deadline. He latched onto the Detroit Lions organization following his release, but spent only one game with them as a backup, and then saw the boot for the second time in his career.
At 6 foot 1, and 203 pounds, McCauley would be the largest-framed CB on the Eagles should he agree to a contract (should one be offered in the first place). His physicality and versatility may have made him a solid starter in Minnesota, but obviously that “would be situation” is out of the question, and his future may now lie with the Eagles. There haven’t been significant indications that the Birds are extremely interested in adding McCauley, but he would definitely provide the franchise with a fill-in reserve, with the bonus of a likely inexpensive contract.
As more information flows regarding the news, updates will be posted.

Adam Caplan is saying the Eagles aren’t signing him because he has no practice squad eligibility left. Would have been an interesting pickup though.
