I sure alot of you will disagree but...

I loved what Maclin did this Sunday...simply remarkable but we heard about his long run potential in camp. But my major issue with his attention is that Desean only got passed to 3 times. I know he was doubled but I'm pretty sure he beat his coverage at least 4 times. We won and thats more important but I also want to keep Desean long term and if he feels threatened for touches by Maclin he may not want to stay. Take in the fact we have to resign Avant which is worrying me already that much like Reggie White, God will tell Avant to go to another team lol. We have to extend Brent and Desean asap. I'm sure this may not be an issue all season but I think Desean needs to have at least 10 plays of any sort. Let me know what you think, don't be too harsh haha.

I was thinking the same thing, I hope DeSean doesnt get jelous of Maclin having a big game. Desean was double covered a lot of the time, so you can’t really expect much but still… Seriously, extend that man. As well as Sheldon, Avant, Celek…

I also hope

DeSean doesn’t get jealous…but seriously: that would be ridiculously childish. He’s a good player, and should have the confidence to understand that.

and handle it like real men… Try to out play the other every game, friendly compitition creates wins.

I dont think so

Nobody knew who JMac was untill yesterday (big threat or still learning the offence) so they did what most DC would have done attempt to shut down the run game and double on the only main threat in the passing game aka DJax. Now teams will not shift coverage over to his side and open him up for some big plays.

Extend?

Really…..its his second year of a 4 year rookie deal, CALM DOWN.

The eagles are very good at extending rookie players who show promise. Patterson, Cole, Andrews (maybe not great this year).

The more pressing negotionations will be with Kolb.

Also, one down game does not ruin a guys love for his team, yes he wants the ball, he is competitive, but would he really want to go somewhere where they will double cover him EVERY game? While here Jackson will be doubled some of the time, but that will open up everything for everyone else, and teams will have to stop doubling him. Which means the talent around D-Jax will open things up for him!

Does he really want to become TO and go to a team w/ no talent where a defense can just key in on him and not let him do anything?

Everything before the draft was that this guy is a Diva, so far I have seen only a few bone head plays, and the guy has a great competitive attitude, trust me, there will be no problems with the Mac and Jac Attack.

Was Boldin jealous of Fitzgerald? No, well maybe of his contract.

Was Bruce jealous of Holt? Nope, made them both better to be on the team together.

The great recieving Duo’s of the NFL have always realized that being on a team w/ another great WR makes both better, I think DeSean is smart enough to figure that out too.

i am supportive of extending his contract now

we have maclin and desean as young, talented WRs and i dont want to get into a salary cap situation later on (assuming one works out in the next few years) like arizona is now. if we extend him and avant now, thats 2 years or so more that the bonuses can be spread out so the cap numbers are lower when they need to resign maclin.

am i thinking far down the line? yes, but for good reasons

This is way too early

Take a deep breath. It was only one game. We’ll be fine.

DeSean

will get his…he’s a good player. We have a lot of offensive firepower right now, and we’ll go with what’s working. I don’t think the coaches consider Weaver a better receiving option than DeSean, but he had a TD grab. We’re gonna move the ball around.

DeSean played a huge role in getting Maclin open by drawing the double team. In a team sport, DeSean did a great job, and he should be happy with that, rather than being jealous.

im not hating and im sure the problem was just temporary

but really, even before this game Andy didnt get the ball to him, Carolina he got the ball i think 4 times.

Just a weird stat...

With McNabb for two games, DeSean has 2 catches for 3 yards. With Kolb for 2 games, 10 catches for 250 yards and 2 TDs.

Take it for what it’s worth.

RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.

I will

But remember in the Carolina game, the offense started most of the drives in enemy territory which meant Jackson wasn’t able to stretch the field. Also in the last game with McNabb, Jackson was double covered. In KC, Jackson was in single coverage against Brandon Flowers and in NO he was against Malcolm Jenkins. I think after 2 100+ yard games, coverage was liable to slide his way. Remember thats the same QB that hit him 62 times last year for 912 yards and was hitting him on all strides this summer.

Carolina game, Desean had a long TD catch from Mcnabb. Similar to Maclin’s second TD catch.

...?

In Carolina game, McNabb had a long of 18 yards…to Jason Avant…. Although I did make a mistake, DeSean had two catches for 9 yards.

Not sure what you’re thinking of.

I was thinking about that myself. Hadn’t pulled the numbers, but it would be interesting to see the comparison of Celeks numbers w/ each QB. Celek deff. didn’t get the same number of looks from McNabb.

Desean is getting respect by the coverage

He’s probably iching for the ball, but if he’s getting doubled all game that’s a sign of respect.

I have little doubt Andy will get “creative” (to the point of annoying us fans) to get Desean the ball in different ways. For this game we didn’t need to do much beyond the standard offense. So no need to give away any specific plays that gets him the ball.

Dual Receiver Threat, and Then Some

Maybe you don’t understand the advantage of having a dual or possibly triple receiver threat. The great times who won consistent Super Bowls had dual receiver threats. The SF 49ers….John Taylor and Jerry Rice. The Steelers….Lynn Swan and John Stallworth. Each won back to back Super Bowls. And they both had good running backs….Franco Harris and Roger Craig. For the first time in Andy Reid’s and Donovan McNabbs tenure with the Eagles, they have many weapons available to them. And Andy is having the best time of his Eagle career. IF DeSean is a team player…..and Maclin is a team player, neither will be asking……“why ain’t I getting more balls thrown my way”. They will be complimenting each other and the other receivers like Avant who will contribute on the way to the Super Bowl. Add Celek into the mix….who has been great….and teams going up against the Eagles will have a hard time preparing for that offense. Some games both Jackson and Maclin will be double teamed…..so look for Celek, Avant, Westbrook, Weaver to get their share of passes. Other times Jackson may be a decoy….so look for Maclin to have a good game. Has it has been shown in a couple games…..Celek may be the top receiver in a couple of games. We now have TWO deep threats…..and maybe THREE deep threats. And everyone knows that Avant is out third down threat….and a damn good one. So……I think we should be proud of our receivers and they threat they will bring to each and every game we play. And don’t be surprised if DeSean doesn’t get many passes thrown his way……but be glad that we won the game.
By the way…….DeSean has more than 2 catches from McNabb…..what about the long TD catch in the Carolina game.

im with you virgo

he didnt have a long catch in carolina it was a punt return, I was at the game, he got a carry and two passes for minimal yards, I think its great we have the threat, I just don’t want an Anquan Boldin situation is all im saying.

by NJEagle on Oct 13, 2009 2:47 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Anquan Boldin situation???!!!

Anquan Boldin is not jealous of the amount of passes that Fitz gets, he is jealous of the big pay day the cardinals gave Fitz, whole Boldin is still getting paid peanuts. He has never been acting like a fool going around saying he doesnt get the ball enough.

it’s Larry now getting upset he’s not getting the ball enough

It happens

A receiver isn’t going to be able to put up 100 yards every game. DeSean realizes that. Double coverage happens and there is nothing you can do but do your job and try to beat it. If it happens, the point is for the next guy to get open. Even Fitzgerald and Johnson have been shut down before. A great receiver doesn’t pout about it, they get out the next week and do their job. If Jackson gets mad that he can’t beat double coverage then that is a personal problem because we all knew it was coming. If anything he should be happier now because now it has been shown that Maclin can capitalize on single coverage meaning they might not be able to double Jackson since Maclin will make them pay on the other side and that makes it easy for Jackson.

We NEED to run MORE. That would definitely give our WR corps more chances to stretch the field…and if it is not open down field….throw it to Celek in the middle!…but hey…my headset hasn’t been working from my recliner.

I like that we're putting up points

but we should be a little concerned with the fact that we are not able to move the ball on the ground at all

We haven't really had to try to run really.

When we’ve needed to I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Shady especially. I think we are in a much better situation running this year than last.

I understand

But…. We need to prove we are more than a 1 trick pony. Once Maclin is considered an established threat, then defenses won’t know who to double cover at WR…not to mention our beast at TE….need I mention the backfield….let’s relax, cause soon enough, our opponents will need 15 guys on their side to cover ALL of our speedy weapons. Unfortunately, that leaves a couple of our guys with less that eye popping numbers/game. But hey, we need to take what is open. That should be a ton of chances for everyone, as long as, our weapons have a chance to prove that they a threat . What defense can cover DJax, Maclin, Westy, Celek, Shady, Weaver and #5, without leaving a mismatch somewhere?

I wonder if the Eagles are somewhat apprehensive in extending a young wide reciever after the bomb of a contract they gave Reggie Brown.

Also, this was one game we can’t get all worried about DeSeans feelings. They had a safety over top of him for pretty much the entire game. Now that teams can watch the tape and see they are going to get burnt if they do this he will get his turn.

Of course there were times he got open but McNabb could have already read past him or just missed it … this is possible.

i don't think its so proposterous o worry about desean's ego

hey, i love what the guy does for the team and he’s a hell of a player. but there’s no denying the ego there, and every great wideout has one (not calling him great yet). every wideout wants his touches, whether he’s covered or not. I know Desean was blanketed, but that’s not how a lot of recievers look at it. most good recievers believe they have enough room to make a play on EVERY down. good players want the ball and i don’t blame him.
oh and by the way it’s pretty much guaranteed he’s jealous of maclin which is understandable. although i’m sure he’s probably very happy with the win (i’m not doubting his quality as a teamate) he wants the ball more than maclin (who was a 1st rd pick and he wasn’t) and that’s completely natural. Am I worried that jackson is going to make a scene and go to the press? No. Is he jealous? yes. and as long as it doesn’t develop into resent, i like that.

by Q27 on Oct 13, 2009 6:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

but there’s no denying the ego there

Why because the media said he has an ego? What has he done to prove this? besides maybe his celebrations in the end zone which is nothing IMO.

I don’t know if people are still weary because of TO or what the deal is but this was one game the kid will get is targets and he will make plays. Let’s calm down a little, all this DeSean is mad because he was a 2nd rounder and Maclin was a 1st is all made up, how can people tell that Jackson is jealous without actually talking to him. I have not heard one reputable person say he was unhappy so why are fans torturing themselves with these thoughts?

AGREED. I don’t think he has an ego but he does have enough confidence to make some koisher plays. Period. I think having two excellent WR is a great thing and I’m thinking DJack and Maclin agree. They want to win just as much as we want them to.

lol i am calm. i said i liked his ego because good wideouts have them and should want the ball.
also i have often heard desean make references to believing he deserved to be a 1st rd pick and wanting to prove it. once again, a good thing. like i said as long as he doesn’t become resentful this is all positive compitition that will benefit the team’s production.

plus, any player who celebrates in a coach’s face has an ego.

Yes DeSean has mentioned he has a chip on his shoulder but he also mentioned it was toward other teams and not our own.

let’s take a wait and see approach.

I say let’s take it one season at a time before worrying about who’s feelings are hurt. Besides, as long as we keep winning on a somewhat regular basis, DeSean has no reason to get his panties in a bunch.

This is how our offense is going to look from now on, and he has to get used to it. Gone are the days where we pitch, hand-off, or pass the ball to Westbrook constantly hoping for a breakthrough. We now have such a wide variety of weapons that it will always be someone different carrying the torch each week. This week was Maclin’s week. I’m sure there are other weeks where DeSean will be the highlight player, and others where Celek will be, etc.

If anyone has the right to be 'jealous'

of a big workload…it’s WESTBROOK!!!!

The man has carried our offense single-handedly since 2005. If anyone ‘deserves’ touches, it’s him.

Let’s enjoy a season where we have more weapons than game balls to go around.
