Trade McNabb and Westbrook?
Call me crazy, but I think the Eagles should start looking to trade Westbrook and/or McNabb [not right now, but maybe at the end of the year]. We have seen the future of our team this season; from Kolb having two 300+ yard passing games, McCoy being a solid rusher, Jeremy Maclin, Desean Jackson, and Brent Celek all excellent receiving options. McNabb is still having a great year and I am not giving up on Westbrook just yet, but right now is the time to deal them and still get top value for them. The longer we let them age and get injured, the less value we will end up getting in the trade market for them. Many teams would jump at the opportunity to get an elite NFL QB in McNabb, and a playmaker in Westbrook. Westbrook has not had much offensive success this season, and neither has the running game in general. Kolb looks like he is ready to start in the NFL, I was very impressed by him.
In return, I think the Eagles should look to get some draft picks to continue to go young, defensive linemen/linebacker who can rush the passer well, a safety, another running back to add depth to the backfield, anything. As long as they are younger players so we continue to build this team through youth. Our offense is filled with young weapons who look like they will be great together for years, so why not start that now? The Packers made a similar decision a couple years ago when Aaron Rodgers was ready to start but they still had Brett Favre. Not saying that is the same situation right now, but it could turn into it.
I have talked to plenty of Eagles fans about this topic and have not found one who agrees with me.

STFU
Wonder if colt fans are saying lets trade Manning while he is at his peak value, or the Pats are saying lets trade Brady while he has max value….or Carson Palmer etc they are all about the same age as Mcnabb…..what is wrong with some eagle fans ? We cant enjoy having a franchise QB ? I really doubt Westy has much of a trade value being a 30y.o. rb thats been injured the 4 past seasons….

I agree with you...
STFU!.. no but seriusly, you think you have a better chance at the lombardi with kolb rather than mcnabb?… its the first time in his carreer where he’s had decent receving threats besides westy… let him enjoy them a little…

Not at the moment, but in several years.
I think we can win a title with McNabb but several years down the road I would rather have Kolb at that point if he continues to develop.

Mcnabb’s contract is up at the end of the 2010-2011 season. Kolb can take over from that point. For now, Mcnabb is still better than Kolb and gives us the best chance to win.

There will be an extension unless McNabb falls apart or misses a lot of time
He’s got four years of quality football left in him, at minimum.

McNabb, not right now. He has like 4 years left. He’ll be good for those, and well, if he stops producing, Kolb’s there.
Westbrook, on the other hand, is a go. Trade him after this season, where he’s mentoring McCoy. Bring in a T.J. Duckett or Edgerrin James, or somebody for a season or two so McCoy doesn’t bear the full load, and then watch him go.
DeSean Jackson for 1000 yards this year!

this is what really get me…
The Packers made a similar decision a couple years ago when Aaron Rodgers was ready to start but they still had Brett Favre.
the packers did not trade away favre at the peak of his value. the packers had been planning to move on with rodgers and favre decided he was going to un-retire for the 84th time. two completely different scenarios.

These guys carry the offense on their back. Trading McNabb is ridiculous. People need to cut the guy some slack and realize he’s one of the all-time greats.
Laugh at me now, but you’ll be crying for Donovan when the Birds offense ends up on the crapper.

Never said he wasn't an all time great
Westbrook has not carried the offense on his back this season….

I sorta agree with you
McNabb needs to stay, even though Kolb’s thrown for 300+ yards in both of his starts that doesnt mean he’s automatically going to do that week in and week out… McNabb’s the closest thing to a sure thing at QB(for us)… The only way I see McNabb getting traded is if we get a 1st or high 2nd+more picks for him, or if he gets injured this year(knock on wood)
Westbrook though hasnt been the same, blame it on the O-line all you want but in less time McCoy has better numbers than Westy.. I dont want to turn it over to McCoy now but sometime in the near future we may have to face the possibility that Westy has lost a step and the young guy can do better.
thats Cobb on Kolb crime if you ask me... as said by yophillybro

what part didnt you guys understand ?
The S ? or the T ? the F ? or the U ? would the colts trade manning for a first or a 2nd ? Kolb lit up the saint, and chiefs secondary…u act like it was the steelers and ravens…..this is not a discussion and is thread should be shut down. lol

They're both staying
and hopefully, they’ll retire as Eagles.

first of all....................
this is a horrible idea for many reasons , the main one being at these guys ages and point in their respected careers i dont think it would be worth giving either up for wat we would get in return.

i can tell you i disagree on trading both.
and I can tell you if you look at it from a rival GM, you say no too them both too. For one, I dont see Westy being extremely successful in any other system at this point in his career. I think we need him to help guide Shady. I think if another team traded for him, he’d be a gadget guy but at this point, hes not reliable enough to do that.
Donovan is great but he would have to learn a new system, and that is hard because unlike guys who have the same system the majority of their career, they have different coaches through their tenure. If Donovan went to lets say, the Browns, he would almost definitely lost with the lingo and style. I just dont see either trade happening and I wouldn’t want it to. I don’t think your crazy just impractical.

You can't find anyone that agrees with you because it's a bad idea.
McNabb is a fantastic QB and we are lucky to have him. At the end of next season the discussion will have to be had, but until then, he isn’t going anywhere. If any QB gets traded after this year it’ll be Vick. Trading Westbrook won’t be worth what we’d get in return and I don’t believe he doesn’t have anything left. Whenever we’ve thought he’s done with before he explodes and reminds us why we have him.
by NOLACuse on Oct 12, 2009 9:54 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
What about Vick? He is not removed from this mix by default and we all know what he brings to the table.
I love Mcnabb and he is our best chance to win for the next few years (3-4) but can we afford to keep Kolb and Vick on the roster for the next 3-4 years behind Mcnabb who will be getting a massive contract if its extended (superbowl win this year).

By the way id like to make it clear that i also think YoSixers is an idiot and that is the stupidist idea ever. Lets go out and trade our franchise QB and an explosive RB when they finally have a legitimate chance to win.

Good lord
The Packers made a similar decision a couple years ago when Aaron Rodgers was ready to start but they still had Brett Favre.
Favre was 38. McNabb is 32. This isn’t comparable.

Ok
I think he gets the idea….I did start off with STFU…but I think Yosixers gets the idea how stupid this idea is…..and we’ve made our points clear, we can cut him some slack,…he could be under 15 years old, mentally underdeveloped, or just slower then normal… or all three. How would that make you feel if you had a “slower” little brother that was on bleeding green and looked forwarded to blogging and gets a beatdown like this? So think before you respond to posts like this and who might be on the other side of the Keyboard.

I am actually 20
I thought of this idea and I have actually found one person who agrees with me! Success on my part. Haha, I knew this post would not be received to warmly, but a lot of you are taking it as if I want to trade them at this very second…

for what?
if i could get a first for westbrook i would do it in a second .. he isnt even a part of this offense really .. he is not even bein used

well
i dont think you could get a 4th for westy right now….what has he shown this season for a first…and very few rb’s in the league get a first…..

I wouldn't just brush it off...
Let’s think unemotionally for a sec… At the end of the year, if McNabb continues to play like he is right now, some stupid team might trade their entire draft for him (look what the bears traded for a much less proven Cutler).
The question is, whatever drop off there is to Kolb, could that be filled and more with what they got in return from some desperate team? I think there is a really good chance.. Of course that is all based on someone making the Eagles a blockbuster offer.

wow
dont compare cutler .. a young stud coming into his prime for an aging mcnabb .. come on now

call me crazy but
lets fire Reid and execute banner in the middle of broadstreet while were at it. just because our young guys have had good games, against nto so great teams i might add, i would not think to be letting go possibly the greatest statistical QB and RB our franchise has seen. We’ve been breaking Dmacs balls his whole career. trading him would be really distastefull in my opinion

"Backs in the 'I'...First and 10...McNabb, play action. Is back again. He is looking..he is going deep. He wants DeSean Jackson..who HAS IT!!! HE HAS IT!!! AND STEPPED INTO THE ENDZONE!! He took it away from the defender!! He took it away from Dominique Rogers-Cromarte, and ran into the endzone!!"
