Andy Reid on the cusp of 100th win
If the Eagles beat the Buccaneers at the Linc this weekend in a game where they are favored by 15 points... Andy Reid will get his 100th win. He'll become one of just four other active coaches who have reached the milestone. Jeff Fisher, Bill Belichick, & Tom Coughlin.
The interesting thing about Reid's imminent entrance into the exclusive club is that despite all those wins his future here isn't exactly certain. As Geoff Mosher points out, his contract is up at the end of the year.
Reid's contract situation makes the milestone more than just a footnote. Despite public support from owner Jeffrey Lurie and team president Joe Banner, Reid's contract expires at the end of this season.
"I haven't put much thought into that," he said. "I love the Philadelphia Eagles, but right now, I am focused in on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to be very honest with you. I'm not even looking at that other thing."
Reid's contract situation is something that's bubbled underneath the surface for a few months now. No one knows whether there's been any movement on his deal, but both sides have publicly said that they want to get a deal done.

I seriously doubt that Reid wont be back. His teams have gone through a lot of different players, and though he was fortunate to have a lot of guys play at a high level for a while, mainly McNabb, he has also gotten a lot of guys to play at a high level even as rookies and as they develop. He has also been very good at letting guys go. His drafts may have been a little suspect, but I think that is because drafts are just a failure heavy type of thing. Everybody has bad drafts, and even the good drafts will have bad picks etc.
That said, Congratulations! (hopefully)

i cant picture another guy with the headset and cap
a lot of eagles fans have emotionally been on both spectrum’s when it comes to andy reid, but lets be honest, he is one of the greatest coaches hands down. people always seem to see the only the negative things. plus jeff lurie and david banner have a lot of respect for him as well. i dont wanna see what happened in san diego happen in philly (schottenhiemer and turner)

Only reason I want to see Reid gone is if one of the ‘uber coaches’ who are currently not working wanting to come back and come to Philly.
Dungy, Billick, Cowher…if a guy like that wants the job – fine – but aside from that there’s no reason to get rid of Reid (at least not a rationale one)
Is Reid the ‘winningest’ head coach in Eagles history?

How many wins does vermeil have – as an eagles coach? That’s the only person i thought might have more.

Not to mention, Andy Reid is essentially Dungy's equal and way better then Billick
Cowher is a very good coach and I’ve always thought highly of Shanahan. Those are the only two coaches in the market I could see an argument for being a better coach then Reid.

I like Andy Reid and all – but I don’t think Reid is Dungy’s equal – in coaching alone let alone other things…

I mean – in terms of ‘most likely to drop dead due to being a fatass’ – andy reid is right up there with charlie weiss

Dungy's a wonderful man, but Reid is too
Both have had their share of family issues, which is a tragedy.
Alas, as per the coaching front – Tony Dungy walked into a head coaching job with Peyton Manning. So Dungy was basically a defensive coordinator and team motivator – he did it well, don’t get me wrong, but the whole having-Peyton tends to set you up well.
I remember their head-to-head games when Dungy was with the Buccaneers, and I remember a lot of Andy Reid getting the better of him.

I've said it before, but...
Why Cowher?
Cowher won the Super Bowl in his 14th season as Steelers coach. If you look at Years 1-10 of Cowher versus Years 1-10 of Reid, it’s virtually identical:
Regular season record: Cowher 99-61, Reid 97-62-1
Playoff appearances: Cowher 7, Reid 7
Playoff record: Cowher 6-7, Reid 10-7
Conference championship game appearances: Cowher 4, Reid 5
Conference championship game victories: Cowher 1, Reid 1
Both lost in their sole Super Bowl appearance in the 10 year period (Steelers lost to the Cowboys 27-17 in Super Bowl XXX, and you know what happened to us in Super Bowl XXXIX)
Cowher, years 1-10: 99-61 regular season record; 7 playoff appearances; 6-7 playoff record. 4 AFC Championship game appearances (1-3 record), 1 Super Bowl appearance (loss in Super Bowl XXX)
Reid, years 1-10: 97-62-1 regular season record.

Both sides of the coin . . .
Pros:
- Reid has the best winning pct. as an Eagle’s coach and it isn’t even close.
- Reid has been successful in winning playoffs games.
- Been able to groom and replace players on both sides of the ball.
- Generally gotten the most out of the offensive personnel he was given.
- Winning after a bye.
Cons:
- Terrible clock management that hasn’t really improved
- Inept preparation for some big games including some really crappy game plans for a few NFC championship games (e.g., Carolina game).
- Marginal record since the ’04 Super Bowl.
- Slow starts and a tendency for this team to play down to the level of their competition.
I like Reid and unless the Eagles could be sure they could get a Dungy or a Cowher it is hard to argue their are better proven alternatives out there right now.
It is kind of funny how if the Raiders hadn’t shocked the Bucs in the 2nd half last year of the final week of the season on the road, the Eagles would have been home for the 3rd time in 4 years and there very well could have been a “Super Bowl or bust” put on him by Lurie and Banner.
At this point, I would be really surprised if Big Red wasn’t on the Eagles’ sidelines for at least the next 3 seasons. It would literally take a Kotite-type collapse down the stretch for management to really consider pushing him out.
The biggest wildcard really is does Reid want to continue coaching in Philly for the next 3-4 years after this season? I don’t know if he does.

He gets a lot of guff
and probably deserves it more than your frequently embattled and heavily underrated quarterback. But records don’t lie when it comes to head coaches, and he has a resume you can’t really hope to replace any time soon.
