Good News! Bill Simmons picks the Giants!
Yes, our favorite comedian who sometimes talks about football has picked the Giants. Why? Because he doesn't see the Eagles scoring more than 14 on the mighty Giants. He cites the fact that we had a hard time scoring on the Vikings (with their apparently tissue paper defense, I guess) and the fact that... Well he does also cite the Redskins game. Anyway, here's the link:

Just a few points to consider as you read this. Over the last 6 games, the Giants have allowed 20 to Minnesota, 28 to Carloina (at home), 20 at Dallas, 20 at home against the Eagles, 7 at Washington, and 29 at Arizona. That's an average of just over 20 points per game over the last month and a half. The Eagles have a good offense. Not great, but very good, espicially if Westbrook can play at 100%. Over the last 5 games we've averaged 29 points per game. And yet Bill's main point is that the Eagles can't score against the Giants. Oooooo-k, Bill. Whatever.
Also note that he doesn't mention how the Giants are supposed to score against the Eagles. I guess the fact that over the last month and a half they have averaged 22 points per game and we've allowed 12 is somehow less impressive that looking at the game as a matchup of our offense against their impregnable defense.
Note also that I'm not just relying on raw scoring to support my contention that the Giant's defense is average at best. See at this link. http://footballoutsiders.com/dvoa-ratings/2009/2009-postseason-dvoa-i
Final point, given the fact that the Eagles have proven to be a much better team than the BS-ers of the world give them credit for, I hope he continues to pick against us in the next two rounds after we destroy the Giants.

Here's the bad news
Bill Simmons still has a job with ESPN.

Im all about an Eagles Ravens or Eagles Steelers super bowl. DOVA predicts thats what should happen. A Steelers Ravens AFC Championship game would be a contest to score double digits first.

What A Tool
I don’t mean to belabor the point that Bill Simmons is a schmuck on wheels, but he’s being awfully verbose about how good the Giants are and how they perform so well under the “no respect” bit. As I said earlier, he picked them to go no better than 7-9, and now he’s predicting that the Eagles, whom he picked to go 11-5, won’t score more than two touchdowns against them. Then again, as others have suggested, we shouldn’t take him seriously; he knows no more about pro football than the average guy living on Rhawn Street. Idiot, thy name is Simmons.

Talk about a tool
SI wrote up position comparisons and predictions for all 4 games this weekend. The guy who did the Eagles admitted to not seeing Gocong or Bradley play this year, but then went on to say that they are sideline to sideline forces, and Brandon Jacobs will pound it right down their throats. right. I really want to write the guy a nastygram, but I’ll just post his article here for ridiculing. No way the MYG have better backers than the Birds.

Amazing...
he gives more edges to the Eagles, and then picks the Giants by 16.

He’s a butt-pirate alright. Giving the Giants the coaching advantage is questionable too. I am surprised no one is talking about the fact that we lost the first game by a cleat and a noncall on a fumble into the end zone. I think the Eagles played better football in both games, minus a few BS calls in the first.
My favorite comment by John Madden this year was when they were showing Eli throwing the ball with the red line, and John Madden goes “it looks to me like Eli is past the line right there”. Then they go and adjust the line of scrimmage, and John Madden goes, “well now that you moved the line, I can see that Eli was behind the line”.

BS calls in the first?
or was it the 200+ rushing yards? give me a break. Giants grossly outplayed Philly in the first game, Philly grossly outplayed the Giants in the second. that’s why this coming matchup is great.
i won’t even touch the Andy Reid-Tom Coughlin comparison. i think some of your fellow Eagles’ fans will answer that debate for you.

I love being the underdog in a game, we always seem to play way better when we are. It seems like when the media picks us to win to be the definite winner, we let it go to our heads and dont play as well (ie. Bengals, Ravens, 2nd Redskins game).

I think he said he’s from hoboken, NJ anyway. So his biased ignorant opinion should not be taken seriously at all. I didn’t like his bit about Akers either…he made it seem like the blocked field goals were his fault, and completely forgot the 50 yarder he had into the wind weeek 14. If anything that was AKers’ redemption for me!

I still don't care ...
… what Bill Simmons thinks about football.
Even if he picked us to win, I wouldn’t.

The Eagles are 2nd and the Giants are ranked 5th
5th is “average at best”? The hype is upon all of philly right now and you had better be right because if the Eagles don’t “destroy” the Giants on sunday you will hear about it loud and clear.
Since 1925 no team has beaten the Giants at home twice in a season including the playoffs.
Will that fact matter to the players on sunday? No. Is McNabb saying to himself “sh*t the Giants are 5th in dvoa, we’re gonna destroy them” No he isn’t.
Throw the stats out the window and lets get it on.

this is good
everyone is comparing the eagles to what the giants did last year, but its different this year because the eagles are getting alot of respect, maybe not here but in other places. Last year, the Giants got no respect, and the majority of people picked against them every week. I like it when the eagles are picked against, because it gives them more motivation to go out and beat the defending champs. Although i don’t agree with BS, I’m glad he chose the Giants.
