Eagles' blitzing defense giving wings to playoff run

"We work every week on stripping the ball and scoring on defense. We started with that on Day One and it has carried us to this point," defensive end Chris Clemons says.

In returning to their blitz-oriented style, the Eagles scored five times on defense during the 2008 season while creating 29 turnovers for defensive coordinator Jim Johnson. They ranked third in the NFL in total defense.

"We've been getting it done," says defensive end Trent Cole, who had nine sacks. "He (Johnson) has been putting us in the right position at the right time."

Mistakes by the offense are a result of pressure and the Eagles bring it. Opposing quarterbacks had a passer rating of 72.9, fifth lowest in the NFL. The Eagles forced 58 three-and-out series in the regular season, second best behind the Baltimore Ravens.

The Eagles' 48 sacks were third best in the league and they did it by getting nearly everybody involved. They had 16 players get at least a piece of a sack.
