We still have the Lombardi curse … let’s break that one.

yeah but he better watch out… i guess desean missed this gem of a quote..

all the jackson haters who were talking smack when i was preaching about us needing to draft him in the off season would come back now lol

esp that auther who called him a 6th grader
that caused me to write that little rebuttal piece i did on small WR’s in the league

I’ll eat a little crow. I definitely liked the pick at the time, but I thought he’d be mostly a return guy for at least a year or two. I never expected he’d be this good a WR this soon.
by JasonB on Jan 6, 2009 10:39 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I'll have some of that crow too
I was a Malcolm Kelly flag holder … I wasn’t opposed to Jackson but didn’t think he would be as good as he has been.

Me 2, I wanted Devin Thomas or Limas Sweed
But we don’t know how good any of them would have been in this offense either. I am very surprised that Jackson has played so well. Its nice to be wrong every now and then.

That’s exactly what I thought, a good return man and maybe the 4th WR. Boy it’s nice to wrong.
by calunker on Jan 7, 2009 7:53 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i was all on the malcolm kelly bandwagon
i still think that kelly, baskett, curtis, and avant would be a hell of a quartet (i’d also think reggie brown would work somewhere in there)
we’re better off with jackson, but i do have a massive affinity for 6’4" 230 lb. WRs.
i’d suggest going after BMW, but we don’t really need him, now do we?

I think...
…most of us got it wrong. I remember seeing a lot of “Damnit – he’s a midget!” I thought he’d be a great return guy, but I was definitely more of a Sweed and Hardy fan. It’s funny, they’re probably saying the exact same thing on the Broncos blog about Eddie Royal. When that pick came up, I thought, “Really? He’s nothing special…”

true, but that doesn’t mean we need to dump tons of money into Crabtree… we just might need to pick up someone who catches the ball more consistently… or, you know, maybe use the guy we have on the roster already….
Jason Avant…
But T.O. and his sideline histrionics wear on a quarterback. He's like the hot stripper you tried to clean up and convert into a real girlfriend. It's a lot of fun until the moment she has her second drink while out to eat with your parents. You unravel quicker than she does.

I love Avant, I wish he would get the rock more. He is really a nice player
I tell you one thing about Crabtree, he is a BEAST or course. But, if we bring him in, that means either Curtis or Jackson is gonna have to play the slot. Like Curtis, I am not to sure he would want to do that again.
Also, Do you really want to let Basket go? And do we want to see less Avant?
I think we have nice receivers, however they are not game breakers, but maybe in time Jackson can be that guy. He will only learn from this year.

or we could get a receivers coach that is better than the one we have cause drops and not attacking the ball are both coaching issues and a lot of the receivers that have come through here seem to have both of those problems

Crabtree or Maclin are both monsters.
It wouldn’t surpise me if Moreno is drafted by the Eagles if he falls that low. Eagles will look to RB sooner or later. But Moreno should go around 22 or so.
Crabtree is gone top 5, Maclin goes around15. We would have to trade up to get either. Thats is very unlikely.

Eagles don’t take RBs before the 3rd round… Our early round picks are usually D and O linemen and secondary (specifically CBs)… every now and again a WR or QB… I don’t forsee our drafting scheme changing much.
But T.O. and his sideline histrionics wear on a quarterback. He's like the hot stripper you tried to clean up and convert into a real girlfriend. It's a lot of fun until the moment she has her second drink while out to eat with your parents. You unravel quicker than she does.

Your probrably correct about that, I'm just saying, Moreno may fall a little. It woud be tempting
Most teams run a 2 or 3 back system. I love Buck but he is older, so is BWest.
I don’t know if they draft DE this year, I really like the youth they already have, I like Bryan Smith, Abiamiri, Cole for the future. Then you have Howard and Parker in the Mix, and Clemons isn’t that old.
I think they draft 1 OT, I think Herremans replaces Thomas eventually, he played well the past as a tackle. I think Andrews retires soon (sad but true), or we attempt to trade him.
You look good at DT, You can pick up some depth in the later rounds, you can get a space eater or something.
You may draft a linebacker to sure up the Weakside, although I like what Jordan/Gaithers have done collectively. But they may want to upgrade with a more solid LB. Would surprise me to see a third rounder or a second rounder here.
Don’t forget about Ikeguano is gonna play next year, he is the equivalant of a 2nd round draft pick at CB. He will contribute and likely be your nickle guy along with Hanson. Bye Bye Lee-Tow, you are gonna get trade for a low pick (4 or 5th) or just get cut.
TE seems to be a priority for me, We really need a strong blocking, speedy TE. This may be 1 of our first round needs.
You will need to draft another guard, to replace Herremans or and Andrews. They really need to spend a lot of picks on this line. I am not in love with Jamal Jackson either, we keep needing to you TEs on short shifts to chip block help him. I don’t know if McGlynn or Gibson is the answer there. Nick Cole, maybe. Also, MJG is in his last year of his contract next year, and is unlikely to get resigned.
What do you think, did I miss anything?

crabtree will get picked in the top 10 (maybe top 5) the eagles would have to trade their entire draft plus some of next years to get up that high. not worth it.
by njh3293 on Jan 7, 2009 9:02 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
yeah, that or Trade McNabb and a 3rd rounder to go that high. or McNabb and Lito together
But that will not happen for Crabtree. Even though people keep talking how Donovan whats out dispite what happens. I hate reading negative stuff when we are winning. Regardless to what happens this offseason, I am enjoying this run, I don’t want anything to spoil it.

didn’t you hear that there’s a secret regime in place that, is in fact, run by Matt Millen himself. yeah! Ford canned Millen as a PR move, but really he’s still running the team (into the ground)…
now i say that half jokingly… because, with the lions, it could actually be true

Haha...Eventually it'll work!
Calvin Johnson doesn’t look all that bad after all. However, there were also guys named Charles Rogers….Mike Williams…and now Roy Williams running the wrong routes in Cowboys blue? Let’s just keep on drafting those number ones! A one-in-three (or one-in-four depending on how you look at it) shot isn’t bad. Maybe this year we’ll get another good one!
Haha. I love it. Certainly makes you feel better about the Eagles giving up first round picks the past few years (although I’ll definitely take Mr. Jackson – too bad the Carolina pick didn’t pan out though…they just HAD to do well). There’s always a team that has worse drafts…unless you’re the Lions.
