Eagles at Vikings 2nd Half Open Thread

Eagles up 16-14. I'll happily take a lead into the half on the road in the postseason. Still, offense needs to play much better.

I thought the issue today would be which Eagles showed up, the good ones or their evil twins.

Kinda right in the middle so far … maybe looking like the latter, with poor third-down play, settling for field goals, not scoring before the end of the half.

But they are winning, so I’ll try not to sound ungrateful. I didn’t think it would be a blowout by any means.

by D3Keith on Jan 4, 2009 6:14 PM EST reply actions

Well, I badly underestimated the Vikings. (And it looks like the bad Eagles showed up).

And back to drinking….

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

by BrianS on Jan 4, 2009 6:16 PM EST reply actions

The bad Eagles would not be leading at the half.

by JasonB on Jan 4, 2009 6:16 PM EST up reply actions

We’ve not played our best football and we’re still leading at the half on the road in the playoffs.

by JasonB on Jan 4, 2009 6:17 PM EST reply actions

Good point

Maybe the “goodest” Eagles will show up in the 2nd half.

by ajay on Jan 4, 2009 6:18 PM EST up reply actions

It's not the score

It’s the reappearance of everything bad about this offense. Scared to run on 3rd-and-short, minimal role for the RBs, terrible game management at the end of the half. They can’t win playing this way.

by Tracer Bullet on Jan 4, 2009 6:19 PM EST reply actions

Excessive Celebration Penalty

Did anyone catch what Asante was doing in the endzone?

No, i kept waiting for a replay, but they didn't show one.

Usually the reserve that for multi-player “rehearsed” crap, don’t they?

May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.

Revenge is a dish best served cold. Let’s score TDs of our own…

Bottom line

If our offense doesn’t start putting points on the board we could be heading home

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!

by Joe_D on Jan 4, 2009 6:22 PM EST reply actions

For sure. Offense has got to show up. Defense and special teams bailed them out in the first. We can’t continue to rely on that.

by JasonB on Jan 4, 2009 6:24 PM EST up reply actions

If I took a poll before the game

How many of you would be happy with a 2 point lead at the half? JJ is going to rock Tarvaris’ world in the second half and B-West is breaking loose!

I bleed green and I piss silver and blue

by oldasquick on Jan 4, 2009 6:25 PM EST reply actions

Honestly I would. Like I said, I’m happy with any lead on the road against a good team. We still need to play better for sure… but a lead is a lead.

by JasonB on Jan 4, 2009 6:27 PM EST up reply actions

I’ll agree … a lead on the road, I won’t complain.

But these are not the dominant, lights-out Eagles … and maybe against another jacked up playoff team, we shouldn’t expect to see them.

by D3Keith on Jan 4, 2009 6:29 PM EST up reply actions

we def need to turn up the blitzes

didn’t send enough guys after Tavaris on 3rd down. he wasn’t feeling the pressure, so he was able to convert too many 3d’s. that can’t be allowed to continue.

No one can. The only reason to try is to get their LBs & DBs concerned about run support and then hit them over the top.

by D3Keith on Jan 4, 2009 6:44 PM EST up reply actions

Westbrook is attracting a lot of attention

Yeah, but really, the calls have been bad all game

I agree

Now we just have to stop Kleinsasser :)

We’re awful antsy for a bunch of fans whose team is winning.

(I know they aren’t quite playing to capablities, and that’s sort of how we Birds fans judge)

by D3Keith on Jan 4, 2009 6:45 PM EST reply actions

You know what I don’t understand, the announcers are all over Peterson, and he’s had one run greater than 5 yards, and many 0 yard runs. So quit the “Westbrook has been absent” schtick. Peterson has one run greater than 40 yards, and 17 less than 4.

by Remis on Jan 4, 2009 7:58 PM EST up reply actions

1 HUGE play on each facet of the game (offense; defense; special teams, which went for only 3 points) and the D was (very) good enough to win.

I feel good about this…came out a little flat, but I don’t feel like there’s any continuity or flow between games for this team — they won tonight when they weren’t their best (a tough, sloppy game like this they wouldn’t have pulled out earlier in the year), and we hope the 44-6 Eagles show up next week.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.
