"I think they're running medical tests to determine the source of the irritation," the source said. "If he does need surgery, it's only going to be minor and he may not need it at all. We know he will rest and work hard in the off-season and we're optimistic he'll come back healthy."

Seems Running Back might be a bigger priority than we thought.

We knew he has issues with injuries even without this news existing. Doesn’t change much.

I agree. This would make RB a major priority.. but at the same time I’m happy to hear this. If surgery could finally fix what has been wrong with that knee for the past two years then great. Do it now. THe guy’s knee swells up after every game and it’s not likely to change unless they do something different. If surgery is what takes, I say go in and do it.

Agreed

It doesn’t seem like we’re talking about microfracture surgery or anything major. This could be a blessing in disguise; at least I surely hope so.

agreed

RB should be a priority even if he does get fixed. He’s going to be the dreaded 30 next year. Watching Westbrook fade away is going to be as painful as watching Dawk fade away.

RB should have been a high priority from the start.

It’s become very obvious that to succeed in the NFL you need to have a two RB system. While I love Buckhalter, he’s not fit to be in that role, though he still has a lot of worth as a backup. I’m not sure that Sproles is the guy in that situation (because he’ll be expensive and I’m not sure he fits), but I’d love to end up with Beanie Wells or Knowshown Moreno with one of the first rounders.

speaking from experience

i have had my knee operated on for fully tearing both my meniscus ,partially tearing my acl and i have severe arthritis … granted my case is caused my medical neglect and lack of professional help … i can tell you all , this isnt something you can bounce back off of … im still having complications from my first surgery … your knee is never the same … i feel his pain every game he plays …

How is Buck not good enough?

He was a huge play maker this year when he got the chance. BTW, I don’t know why this site keeps talking about using first rounders on RBs.. We have NEVER done that in the AR era, not even in the 2nd round. We won’t do it now. We all should’ve learned that in 04 when we thought we were going to draft Stephen Jackson.

I like Buck

But I still think we need to draft a back pretty high. I don’t have faith in Booker. I hear you on the track record, but I am hoping that changes this year.

Context my man … we haven’t needed to draft a RB high in the draft in the AR era. We had Duce and Westy, we don’t really have a back waiting in the wings like we did with Westbrook so to say we won’t use a high draft pick just because we haven’t before is ignoring the big picture. I don’t think we use a first on a RB because this draft is deep at RB but it’s not out of the question.
