Wildcard Weekend Open Thread

In the early game, the upstart Atlanta Falcons travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals, champs of the worst division in football. In primetime, the Colts travel to San Diego to take on the 8-8 Chargers, champs of probably the second worst division in the league.

All games are on NBC today.

We also released our SB Nation 2008 "Studs and Duds" survey. Every NFL blogger voted for our best and worst players/coaches of the season. Plus, be sure to check out our NFL scoreboard for up to date playoff news from all 12 teams in the posteason "tournament." We're one of the teams BTW, and Dallas is not... :)

Atlanta is a sexy pick...

..but I think ’Zona pulls it out. Indy wins over an LT-weakened SD squad.

It’s good to be back…I was pissed that I missed the Dallas game thread.

Falcons could be dangerous...

…so I am rooting for Arizona. They are fatally-flawed, but I think they can win at home today.

The sucking off of Atlanta...

…during NBC’s pregame and the booth pregame were unbelievable. They mentioned Warner has a ‘couple of weapons’ and then went on and on about how much adversity Atlanta faced. Jesus, at least talk about the game.

damn both of them

for not leaving their respective teams and joining us…

we’d win like 5 superbowls in a row

by Manoovi on Jan 3, 2009 5:36 PM EST up reply actions

Hmm

There is a lot to be learned from this game. Home team scores early. Lots of noise leads to false starts. Early INT. This is the road pressure we could face…let’s hope not, and if so, that we can respond.

by ajay on Jan 3, 2009 4:57 PM EST reply actions

dude i dont think there will be that much pressure

no one in MInni is buying tickets….

But

A lot of Eagles fans might have bought tickets.

The...

…absolute embarrassment of riches they have at WR, ugh. Fitzgerald, Boldin, Breaston…when is the last time any team had three 1,000 yard receivers?

by ajay on Jan 3, 2009 5:39 PM EST up reply actions

desean was damn close...

make a couple of those drops and he’s there

by 21510akland on Jan 3, 2009 5:47 PM EST up reply actions

1000 Yard Receiver

Because we don’t throw 150+ balls to one guy, ever, and they don’t catch 60+ of the balls. Fitzgerald got 154 pass attempts, Boldin 126, Breaston 113. They caught 62, 71, and 68 of the passes.

Our closest guy was Jackson, who got 120 targets, and he only caught 52%. On the other hand, the Eagles had 10 guys who went at least 247 yards with the ball, which is just incredible. This is what is called “spreading the ball around”.

Pretty sure the last time was when Peyton Manning had his ridiculous year in 2004 (same year Culpepper blew up and no one remembers) I think it was Harrison, Wayne, and Stokely.

In regards to the post above

Ryan actually does look like Farve… at least Farve of the last 5 years of playoffs

If you can't sell out a playoff game, should you lose the right to have a home game?

30-17 Arizona now after sacking Matt Ryan in end zone.

Matt Ryan looks like a rookie QB making his first playoff start.

Well, listening to NBC..

You’d think he was the second comings of Montana and Brady rolled into one.

I think the problem was they gave up on the run. Putting it all on Matt Ryan’s shoulders and passing more than running doomed them. They have Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood for christ’s sake, like they can’t pound the Cardinals defense? They gave up.

that our old friend Stephen Spach could be so useful to the Cardinals…

7-7 score...

Rivers has 5 completions. Gates has 5 catches.

Someone call T.O.

Chargers 23-17

I thought the officiating was blatantly obvious against Indy.

Yeah those officials ...

How tricky of them to make the Colts actually grab a facemask and then call a penalty on it.

The 'holding' call

should have been offensive PI.
