Marty Mornhinweg to remain with Eagles
There were some rumblings around the Eagles that Marty Mornhinweg could be on his way out, either by choice or otherwise. There was never much more than idle speculation however, and the Eagles have dismissed the story.
Speculation offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg won’t be back for a seventh season with the Eagles was dismissed Saturday by a club spokesman.
Eagles football media relations director Derek Boyko double-checked the status of Mornhinweg with his boss, Andy Reid. Boyko said the head coach denied the reports, the rumors and the speculation.
Boyko also suspects reporters confused Mornhinweg with Mark Whipple, the Eagles’ offensive assistant who sources say has sold his house and will leave the nest. Whipple likely will be named offensive coordinator of the University of Miami.

Sad
This is the first guy that needs to be canned. He’s just plain lousy. Period. Nothing inventive, no gadget plays. Just a dead brained OC.

I think that’s kind of harsh, and sort of inaccurate.
One, teams don’t consistently win through gadget plays. And on top of that, the Eagles run their fare share of them. Many successful flea-flickers over the last few years. That McNabb scramble to open this year’s NFC championship game was a called play and pretty neat.
The Eagles scored a lot of points this year. Who gets credit for that if not the OC?
Plus, the issue here is the same as it always has been… We really don’t know who crafts the Eagles’ gameplans or even calls the plays on a regular basis.
Indeed. And any criticism of the Eagles offense starts with Reid, anyway. One thing we DO know about this team is that Jim Johnson more or less has autonomous control of the defense.
Even if he’s not calling all the plays, the offense is Andy’s baby.
Yeah I think any criticism of the Eagles offensive coordinator is pointless. Changing the guy would probably be pointless.
Look at the offense Brad Childress runs in Minn… Does it look like he had much if any input here? Not to me.
Why would we assume anyone else would? Andy runs the offense, and he’s chiefly responsible for it’s successes and failures.
Eagles offense scored 416 points this regular season. That’s a 24% increase from last year, so something went right.
416 is more than the 2002 team, and it’s more than the 2003 team (by one point).
As much as we have reason to be upset about some rather acute failures and inopportune meltdowns, the offense had a really successful year overall.
what drives me crazy is how easily we score on a weak D, but how inept we are at scoring on a good one. See Redskins games 1 and 2.

I think it’s just because that’s our division foe. For some reason we haven’t been able to get it together against the NFC East the last few years and it’s been killing us.
I am the people's troll :3™
ugh that hurts ...
I’m with you BFH we did have a good year statistically … I’m optimistic about next year without an acquisitions can’t wait to see what we end up with.
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
The Redskins definitely had our number this year. It’s been noted here and elsewhere that their DB’s love to get physical with our little receivers and bully them off their routes and timing.
The Eagles did put up 33 on them in DC last year, remember. That was a huge day for Westbrook.
Westbrook carried the ball 24 times against them total this year for a total of 78 yards. It seems if the Redskins (or our playcalling) slows down #36, they win.
