Don't give up on Winston Justice yet
Don't give up on Winston Justice just yet. He was a badass coming out of school and he hasn't seen a lot of playing time because we had our starters in place. All we have to go on is one foul memory. He could very well be the starting left tackle next year. Andy Reid is a very good evaluator of talent, especially on the O line. Not much of a point to this fanpost, just that I think we're all accepting the fact that Justice was a bust and we need to draft O line early and that might not be the case.

I agree
Although why did you say left tackle? He was naturally a RT and we might not bring Runyan back. If not, I think they’ll give Justice every chance to win the job. It’d be a great redemption story! I’m not holding my breath but he deserves the chance to be a starter.

Even if Winston can play, we’ll likely still need one more OT.
The problem is, we won’t know if he suddenly figures it out until the draft and free agency are over. I’m sure the whole organization hopes Justice can develop, but I can’t imagine they’d rely on him at this point.
If we drafted another OT early and the best case scenario happens and Justice can play… Then we leave Herremans and Andrews where they are and our line looks great.

I missed the part where he let Tuck block the field goal. It was a really pussy attempt at a block. I think Justice has one more shot to make this team, or he is cut.

Thoughts on Jordan Gross
Personally, I think Tra slid quite a bit this year. Runyan was not the same after the injury but I would be more inclined to try to upgrade the LT position if it was possible. Jordan Gross is a FA and he made the Pro Bowl as a LT. At the same time, I hear he is a much better RT. Thoughts on making this signing?

problem with gross is if the panthers do not franchise peppers they WILL franchise gross. So I guess it boils down to who the panthers decide they wanna keep

Would they franchise him twice?
I guess they would. Maybe they’d just give him a long-term deal.

I didn’t think you could franchise more than once…

You can, but most teams won’t because it becomes very costly.

most teams won’t because when players sign the franchise tender they make them put into the deal that the team won’t use the tag on them again the next year. Asante did that with the Pats.

That’s the reason sometimes, too. But there’s safeguards in place so a team won’t just franchise the same guy 3 times in a row.

They franchised Gross last year and the thing is when you franchise a guy, you gotta pay the average of the top 5 salaries of the players at his position OR 120% of his salary last year, whichever is greater. Since he was franchised last year, they’d have to pay him 120% of what he made last year which would be somewhere around $10M for one year. If they don’t think that’s worth it, and they don’t agree on a long term deal, then he’s gone.

Pepp wants out of CAR
Asked them not to franchise him. My best mate is a panthers fan, says Pepp wants to be a 3-4OLB, and reckons that hell go to jax who are apparently switching to a 3-4, and so he can be re-united with his former DC when he was truly dominant Jack Del Rio.

i was all about winston justice and giving him another chance but he was also responsible for the blocked field goal at the second giants game this year too. I don’t doubt winston has the talent but i do not think he has the killer instinct and unfortunately that is not something someone can teach you

I won't give up on him
but we are great at spotting talent on the O-line and if our FO doesn’t think he’s good enough and cuts him, then I trust them 1000%.

I'm not giving up on him either
But the fact that Andy never put him in even at times when Tra and Runyan were clearly struggling doesn’t suggest that Andy has much faith in him.

Don’t you mean Winston Bust-ice?
I’m kidding…but the nickname’s just too easy. Prove me wrong, Winston1
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

What about King Dunlap?
I know he’s got that rep of being an underachiever, but hopefully he can get his 6’8 frame into motion and use his God-given gifts. He showed some attitude on the field during pre-season, although he was barely on the field from what I remember, and his long arms have got to be a help.
Clearly he’ll have to fight for the spot during camp, and I hope he gets it. He’d be such a presence. I just hope he fully recovers from his season ending injury. (sarcasm)

There is a big reason he came down with the mystery injury and was placed on IR … they definitely have hopes for the kid.

I have completely given up on justice. he is a wash. the team was trying different formations this season that would slide herremans out to tackle if runyan or thomas got hurt. This is because they would do anything to keep justice on the sideline where he belongs. the only reason he is still around is cause he was the best of the worst lineman. that is not the distiction you strive to acheive. they just didn’t have another option at the time. hell, rookie mike mcglynn came closer to cracking the field this year than justice did.

The kid has talent -what he needs is instruction and confidence. No thanks to Andy Reid for putting him one on one the whole damned game against a premier pass-rusher, long before he was prepared for that, and shattering his confidence. Every time he gets out on the practice field he probably still thinks he’s going to get his ass kicked. That said, Andy is (usually) good at putting good lines on both sides of the ball -that’s the main reason we’re a perennial playoff team. So if Justice still has it, Andy’ll see it -and if he doesn’t, end of story.
