Crabtree

I heard the eagles were actualy interested in Michael Crabtree on this article thats posted in the fanshots named Left Tackle, its actualy a pretty insightful article, i encourage you guys to read it, but lets say the eagles do indeed draft crabtree, and get pettigrew.. then they move shawn andrews to RT and Herremens to LT and put in like MJG and Nick cole or something, maybe king dunlap? at the guard spots.. how do you think mcnabb would start to feel?

i mean if we have a one year reciever in jackson, and a rookie in crabtree.. (who is a beast, 6-3, 214LBS) , and a 2 year TE (celek) and a rookie TE with pettigrew, do you think we might be shutting the door down on McNabb and westbrook? cuz i mean it takes quite some time to actualy get used to the NFL, and it might take the offense a full year to get used to all the change...

im just asking you guys, would you be happier bringing in guys like peppers and jordan gross, and like a tony gonzalez or K winslow? just because it may benefit McNabb and B-West and hopefully Dawkins when he re-signs.. or would you prefer the rookies?

O-Line

bring in Gross
put him in at LT
Herremens LG
Jamaal Jackson C
Nick Cole/MJG./rookie RG
Shawn Andrews RT

i think that would make the best O-Line in maybe the league? if they really play well together… im honestly stumped for the skill positios tho, wut wud u guys like to see?

I agree about Gross

I have been thinking that the Eagles would make a big play for Gross. Would be reminiscent of the Runyan free agent signing. However, supposedly Peppers does not want to return to Carolina. If they were to lose Peppers, there is no way they would let Gross leave.

I don’t think Dunlap would be moved to guard. I think he is more of a natural tackle.

If they got Crabtree and Pettigrew, I think McNabb would be just the opposite of “shutting the door down” on McNabb. Drafting two skilled receivers? Would be much the opposite of drafting, oh say…. a quarterback like Kevin Kolb? All that said, I would be very surprised if the Eagles got Crabtree and there is no way they would get both Crabtree and Pettigrew.

ajay

posted a article that based on the points system we could trade up to 7 for our 2 picks and if we delt Lito too, we could keep 1 or the first round picks and maybe move up higher into the Top 5 and make a run for Crabtree

To me the Eagles are like that girlfriend that pisses u off, then u hate her, but the next morning you wake up and remember that thing u love so much about her

Yeah

The article said the Eagles were intrigued by Crabtree…and Percy Harvin too. But I’m sure they’re intrigued by a lot of people at this point.

P.S.

While it might be silly to move up to get him, gotta admit I’d be damn excited.

They’ll never be in a position to draft crabtree.

by JasonB on Jan 21, 2009 6:53 PM EST reply actions

Agreed

I think they might be interested but so is every one else. In my opinion we all ready have too many young receivers. Like avant, basket Jackson(who is the best) the oldest are curtis and lewis only 6yrs in the nfl, and we just signed two guys from the practice squad. It would be very interesting if we did draft a widereceiver, but they only way to go is early in the draft. I think we should give Donovan a big shot wr. who is all ready proven in the nfl, but i think the eagle fans have been asking for this ever sense TO left

yeah but look at what the Giants gave up for Eli.

Their 1st rounder Philip Rivers (Who is a good QB), their 3rd rounder (Nate Kaeding) in the same draft and their 1st (Shawne Merriman) and 5th (traded to Tampa then to St Louis) in the 2005 draft. That’s a lot in my opinion and more then the Eagles would give up.

If we ever paid a kings ransom for a WR that would be more of a luxury than a need...

I would get back on the fire andy campaign. Esp since he’s a rookie and might not contribute first year/be a bust.

I agree that we are not in position, but they are definately interested.

Lets recall the fact that Andy tried hard last year to land a true #1, Fitgerald, Boldin, even Williams (thank goodness that didn’t work out).

Eagles also made attempts in the past at Burress when they already had TO, and they draft Fred Ex, Pinkston, Brown, and Jackson early in the draft.

Free Agency rarely has any receivers of substance, so therefore we never made any huge signings. We aquired TO via trade due to Arbitration ruling of free agency debackle.

I think that Andy knows that they only way you get a number is by drafting him. Crabtree is a beast, but comes at a HUGE price.

You would almost have to trade Donovan for that #5 spot from Seattle, thats OK if you think Kolb is the man. Other than that , you would have to trade both first rounders and a third rounder and Lito to make that happen.

It wouldn’t be surprised if they drafted Harvin if he is on the board at 23, but I think they draft RB and T in the first, or T and TE.

He is going to be released ?

he’s a Free Agent so no need to release him … they better f’n sign him though.

i dont think they will be re-signing him more because of the talent left in him and will rather sign him because of his legacy / respect / we will burn buildings and flip cars if he isnt back … i really hope he comes to coach for us when hes retired …

nice thought
but theres no way we get both crabtree and pettigrew
not being a downer, would love to see it happen, just being realistic
and yes, I would rather upgrade our aging tackles instead

by NFC-BEAST on Jan 21, 2009 9:23 PM EST reply actions

i dont see it happening. Andy might bring in crabtree for a workout and if he really impresses him then its a possibiltiy. There arent many holes on the eagles team this year but we need to draft for the future too. Our tackles are old and so is westbrook and bdawk. we may have to give up too much to trade up that high. Id like to have crabtree but im just fine taking picks at 21 and 28

What IF

they sign Jordan Gross
THEN they trade their 2 first round picks and like lito sheppard and reggie brown, to like the browns or something, GET MICHAEL CRABTREE! then they trade their 2nd pick and 4th and maybe 2nd or 3rd next year, to move to 25 or something in the first round PICKING UP… Brandon Pettigrew.

that sounds retarded and a waste of a lot for two players, but honestly id be much happier if we went all out this Free Agency and Draft, like signing peppers and trading for Boldin and like if we get Boldin, Pettigrew cud most likely be picked up with our pick

honestly, like these are real stretches and almost are surely not gunna happen
but the eagles better do SOMETHING like the asante thing this season.

by maximdim on Jan 22, 2009 12:15 AM EST reply actions

HUH?

Reggie Brown and Lito Sheppard to the Browns?

They might be bad but they would all have to be on some serious stuff to take that trade.

Yeah its not going to happen. Crabtree is going to be long gone.

I would rather grab some OL and Secondary help in the draft and then get TJ for whatever he wants. The only problem with him though is that he isn’t all that fast. I saw a thing on him on TV and they said he was the best route runner(I’ve seen like 3 Bengals games in my life). He is the best available, so we should get him.

Brown isn't going anywhere.

We take a 5 mil cap hit, he rides the pine next year. They will try to throw him in the mix in camp, but they he will fall off during the season. They may try to hide him with some bogus injury or something. At least untill next year, we only take a 4 mil hit at that point. We ate 4 Mil on Kearse whe he got cut.

Brown ...

I don’t know they re-couped a lot of money from him this year by making him inactive, I don’t know how to look at that.

by Whodie126 on Jan 22, 2009 9:52 AM EST up reply actions

Are you sure that him being inactive helped to relieve his cap number?

I am reffering to his prorated signing bonus. Maybe we get back some LTBEs, but that can’t be much. As a team, they may need to recoup a ton of LTBEs to free up the cap space to let him scate. But 5 Mil is a lot, minus any LTBE unearned.

I'm not saying they were getting Cap space

just recouping some money.

Secondary help

? you mean if they don’t sign Dawk back right? because our CBs are straight especially with Jack Ikegwuonu coming up, Hanson played well this year, as well as Demps for a rookie playing CB instead of his real position of safety.

the offseason

Now the real work begins. The long, arduous journey back to the mountain top. With some cap space to play with and two first-round selections, the Birds have the ammunition to reload, provided McNabb is under center in ‘09. This has the makings of another headline-filled, head-turning off-season that promises to be anything but predictable. Eagles Nation wouldn’t have it any other way.

It wouldn't surprise me,

Eagles tried everything to get both Boldin and Fitzgerald. Now that Boldin has injury issues. I don’t think they are as interested. It would surprise me that bid red would be interested in Crabtree.

The question is, how do you get him. It will cost you Lito, and your 2 picks, and probrably a 3rd rounder. That is a HUGE price, when Harvin is really good and so is Maclin. You can get either for free of a lesser price.

Craby patty is an unlikely draft pick. But I would love it.

by yophillybro on Jan 22, 2009 8:27 AM EST reply actions

hello everybody

in my opinion we should do one of two things.

Option 1.
Trade up with one of our first rounders and draft a big name tackle
use our other first pick to draft a TE (if we dont get one from FA)

Option/dream 2
Trade both of our 1st round picks to one of those teams that are rebuilding somewhere in the top 5 and draft Crabtree.

i would actualy love if the eagles did either of these. of course option 1 is more realistic.

by NickPampani on Jan 22, 2009 9:33 AM EST reply actions

long time no see Nick, hows it going.

It’s tough you have to look at what the other teams needs are, why trade up for a Tackle if all the teams in front of you need Defensive Ends. I haven’t done much research in hopes that I would be planning my trip to Tampa but now that’s over I will start looking more in depth into the off season.

yeah, i havent had my computer. my motherboard fried on me.

somehow with talkels becoming more and more of a safe and even in some cases a sexy pick, my fear is that alot of these guys will be high on peoples draft boards and once the players they want are off then theywill piuck a tacle who in most cases could very possibly play 4 or 5 possitions on the olin

by NickPampani on Jan 22, 2009 1:32 PM EST up reply actions

we would have to trade into the top 3 if we want crabtree. The seahawks would most likely take him at 4
