Who does an Eagles fan root for in the Superbowl?

Vince-lombardi-trophy_medium

Over the next two weeks we'll be inundated with Superbowl coverage and in all likelihood mostof us will watch the game in two weeks. So it only makes sense to find some sort of rooting interest right?

So who will the BGN crowd be pulling for?

For me, it's our PA brethren Steelers. I like the team, I admire their organization, and it just so happens I'm dating a Steelers fan. Her mom is a really fantastic cook and were I to openly root against the Steelers in two weeks I may not be welcome back in the house... So for my the sake of my taste buds and harmony in my relationship, I'll be pulling for the Stillers.

Plus, if they win they'll have more rings than Dallas.... which is fine by me.

Gotta go with Pittsburg

For two reasons:
One- we need to have a team in the NFL that NEVER wins championships so that our own dearth of superbowl rings can never make us feel inadequate.
Two- because fuck em thats why! What ever happened to good old vengeance?

Pittsburgh – the reasons are 2 fold, most Arizona fans are d-bag fairweather fans, and it bugs me that they get to celebrate when a truly devoted fanhood like ours and the steelers don’t. and if my count is right a steelers win is another knock to the cowboys cause that would give pittsburgh sole lead for SB championships

The Cards. I love everything about FItzgerald’s game and the way he conducts himself on the field. He’s been my favorite non-Eagle since he came into the league, and it has nothing to do with the Philly “get a #1 receiver” obsession.

I’d love him to have a huge game against the Steelers and get an MVP trophy. I think he has a chance to be one of the NFL’s all-time greats.

Steelers all the way

I live in Pennsylvania.

The Cardinals are ex-NFC East.

I went to college in Pittsburgh and my wife is from Pittsburgh. She is REALLY cute in her tight Rothelisberger jersey.l

Steelers are the way baby!

That’s enough for me right there, but Polamalu is one of my favorite players in the NFL not wearing Green, love to watch him play.

Not even going to watch it.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

noone

I still have not gotten over the loss. I won’t read or watch any sports for a while. Since we were o so close again, all of the superbowl media hype will only piss me off so I just stay away from it all.

I’m sure it’s not if you’re like a Bills fan (not saying we have it any better, for any random Bills fan that would roam through here), but within my limited experience, losing the superbowl wasn’t as bad as the conference title game, because at least then the season’s over. There’s not two more weeks of hype leading up to the game the Eagles were almost in.

But, that could just be because in the one Eagles superbowl I remember, I was just so relieved they finally got there.

I’m totally not over this yet.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

What makes this sting so hard is that we had 2 playoff road wins, and the divisional game we beat the Giants, who according to most pools were the #1 team in the NFL, in New York. Then, we lose to a team that we blew out just over a month ago… a team that the media is already calling the worst team to ever get to the superbowl. Yea, I know, the Cards do deserve a bit of credit for how they took apart our D, but damn, this one just really stings.

by captain nodar on Jan 20, 2009 6:08 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed

After the game I was repeatedly flamed for being negative. I guess a lot of our fans are used to losing CG. I just want a damn ring! There’s no moral victory here. It’s not like we’re the Bengals/Lions and getting here was a huge step for the franchise. We’re Philadelphia, we’ve been here done that 5 times out of 8 years. To come out with no rings is just pathetic and mind blowing when you think about it. I’m not over it either and I won’t be watching the SB or the media hype.

Yeah…I’m starting to calm down a little, but I’m still really negative.

On one hand, the Eagles got farther than they deserved to go based on the regular season. They got a lot of young players some playoff experience.

On the other hand, when you’ve been close as often as they have, you just HAVE to win CG.

The thing that’s sort of depressing me is that the defense is up-and-coming, I think, (Minus Dawk, of course, which sucks) but the two players that make the offense go most are at or near the end of their peak. (McNabb and Westbrook).

I’m just by nature a pessimist, and I know that, and I don’t think McNabb should be traded or Reid should be fired, but I will say that if the Eagles reach the NFC Championship next year, I don’t care who they’re playing — I will have no confidence at all that they can win it until they actually do.

They’ve won A LOT of big games, in contrast to what some of the McNabb bashers will say, but their 1-4 record in CGs and lack of any rings pretty much has me always thinking “How are they going to screw it up this time?”

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

if the cardinals win decisively it will make things that much more painful because it will mean we likely would have won the superbowl had we gone. go steelers.

I can’t stand Steelers fans. Like, at all. They’re annoying, they’re stuck up, and they think their shit doesn’t stink. I live about half way between Philly and Pitt, and my area is full of obnoxious Steeler fans. I will never root for them.

Yom, where you at? I’m in York, with a mix of Steelers/Ravens/Eagles (probably in that order).

I really have nothing against the Steelers or most of their fans that I know…I’m just bitter that they have so much success while we have…well, you know. At least if they win Dallas won’t have the most rings.

Maybe a central PA BGN drinkathon is in order next year.

Cards

They were underdogs just like us … i do believe all of us at one point were praying to be in their division because everyone in it sucked … well they had the underdog role just as we did and they played a better game … as much as i would like to see someone have more rings than the cowboys and 49ers i dont want the steelers fans to have that shit talking card to pull … i like seeing cowboys , steelers and 49ers fans squabble about their rings … it keeps a harmony of pricks together for a good laugh from a third party fan who doesnt even have one yet :( … how much are super bowl rings by the way ? i figure by the time i get married to someone we will have won one by then … maybe ill get it as my wedding ring …that would be kind of sick no ? lol i got a feeling they are like 20k or something … google here i come … Cards for the win …

WAIT a minute guys...

…what about the unspoken rule that if you’re from PA you can only support ONE team? Isn’t this like rooting for the Mets and the Yankees? (Same city, but still…)

I will root for the Steelers cause I hate the Cardinals now, but I will never be a fan. I can’t root for them under any other circumstances except this one. You’ve gotta pick a PA team and stick with it.

P.S.

I rooted for the Seahawks in ‘05. And if not for the referees, they might’ve won.

Never Will Root For The Stillers

There is absolutely no way I can root for the Stillers or anything Pittsburgh related for that matter. Having graduated from Penn State in 2007 and being forced to work up here with these inbred hillbillies, I can tell you that their fans and teams are the trashiest things in the world. I think that the Stillers are a cheap and dirty team who was handed the Super Bowl in 2006 by the officiating crews. Not to mention that they used a cheap shot to knock Carson Palmer out of their playoff game in the first quarter. Ugh, from that stupid Terrible Towel and their horrible team colors, there isn’t a single thing that I like about them. Of course it is going to be tough pulling for the Cardinals, that fraud of an organization, especially considering that they denied us a trip to Tampa, but in no way will you see me rooting for the scum from the western side of the state.

by Bob Sacamano on Jan 20, 2009 1:57 PM EST reply actions

Steelers

I really don’t like anything about Pittsburgh. The city, the teams, the fans. They all suck and they’re garbage. But the Cardinals and especially their fans don’t deserve a Superbowl. If it was the Lions, I’d root for them. That’s truly an underdog. Cardinal’s “fans” didn’t care until two weeks ago, so fuck ’em.

by NOLACuse on Jan 20, 2009 2:03 PM EST reply actions

I'm sticking by my earlier post ...

I always root for the team that beat me, I’d rather have lost to the best. If they don’t win it all it will make losing to them all the more painful for me personally.

With that said this was a hard decision because I like Tomlin, the Steelers D, and even Roethlistoomanylettersberger. Then again there are two women that I work with who are Steelers fans (I just found this out week 16) and I really don’t need them talking shit for the next year when they don’t even know what a safety is but magically have 25 Steelers shirts.

simply to surpass the Cowboys lombardi record should be enough for anyone

I like the Steelers second to the Eagles…they aren’t rivals and I have a lot of family in pittsburgh. I respect the whole organization! Shit they have a chance to pass the cowboys for most superbowl trophies so I would be really happy to see them get another. I’m also still a lil bit bitter about losing to the Cardinals in a game we should have won!

by phila.eagles on Jan 20, 2009 5:05 PM EST reply actions

No one else has those Steelers fans that refer to the Steelers as PA’s Professional football team and the Eagles as the JV? …. I can’t stand those pricks and this would add feul to the fire.

I knew a guy that refered to the Eagles as the New Jersey Eagles. Suffice it to say he is dead now.

"Philly is a hot team now and they are playing well on defense, Donovan has managed the game well and I don't think there is any team out there ... I think they beat the only team out there that had a chance to beat them, and I don't think there is anybody out there that is going to beat them. I'm on their bandwagon and I'm picking Philly to win the whole thing." - Giants RB Brandon Jabobs

I guess the steelers

cause how pathetic would it be if the cardinals got one an we didn’t? although at this rate in a few years the Lions are going to KO us out of the CG.

I gotta say Cardinals ...

… I guess because of that old ‘who you lost to’ theory, but also so the AFC can stop crowing about how strong it is, and because the Cardinals — well, I tried, but I can’t hate Larry Fitzgerald.

As far as the Lions thing … I have noticed we’ve played 5 different teams in the NFC CG. Someone here in D.C. gave me this stat though, that might come in handy if the a Redskins fan starts talking yang:

In the past 15 years (or since the Skins’ last Super Bowl), every NFC team has been to at least the championship game except the Redskins and Lions.

Taking it a step further, I think they’ve all been to the Super Bowl except those two, Vikings and Saints.

Off topic and random, but I felt like sharing.

I like Tomlin and Polamalu too, but I hate NFL “dynasties” … F a Steeler.
