Eagles @ Cardinals Second Half open thread

Incredibly poor display on both sides of the ball. Eagles down 24-6 in a pretty embarrassing effort. Credit to Warner though, he's killing us.

This is very reminiscent of the 2002 NFCCG against Tampa. The short pass against the Eagles’ blitz is what is killing us.

I can't think

of whether I’ve ever seen Jim Johnson get outplayed in the chess game this badly. Of course, it helps that Warner seems to know exactly what to do on each blitz and the Iggles cover guys are playing fifteen yards off the ball.

All of the inconsistency

of this season coming home to roost today.

DUH?

3rd and 14 on your own thirty and you take a timeout when im sure Arizona would have took one to get the ball back. Then when they have the ball on 3rd and 14, we take a timeout?

andy reid

He has an offensive coord. and an def coordinator, but he cannot manage this game. He’s a good GM, but maybe the worst coach in the NFL.

What a fucking disgrace this team has been. Oh and if I was Andy, I would bench Donovan right now for his disgraceful performance along with everyone on that defense.

my point is the offense hasn't pulled it's weight at all this season

maybe 2-3 games. Otherwise it’s our defense that’s doing all the damage and our offense “does enough” so we don’t lose.

We are so poor at the TE position. So poor. Celek does nothing with the ball when he catches it, Smith can barely get open.

Celek is catching passes which is nice, but he goes down right away.

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 6:32 PM EST reply actions

This is the truth about this season.

We made the playoffs in a complete fluke, the likes of which will not be seen for another 20 years. This is the first worthwhile postseason since 2004 – and may well be the last one for a similar stretch. The first four years of success were largely with Rhodes-era personnel. This organization just cannot win the big games, they will never win the big games. Getting to the NFC championship ONCE in the last four years is not success by any means; I would like to see the person who would not trade all 5 appearances(and 4 losses) for one lombardi trophy. Truly disgusting.

by fleeb on Jan 18, 2009 6:32 PM EST reply actions

1 out of 32 teams wins the super bowl each year – 1 out of 16 makes the nfc championship game
too many fans out there look at what the eagles HAVENT done as opposed to looking at what they have accomplished compared to the rest of the teams out there…

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 6:34 PM EST up reply actions

4/32 teams make the championship but anyway….

Look at the last 4 years and tell me they have not been utterly depressing. This team has been running on its 2004 superbowl for fucking ever.

There’s no such thing as a fluke. It’s a 16 game season and the standings don’t lie. You are as good as your record says you are. The Eagles are a playoff team.

by JasonB on Jan 18, 2009 6:52 PM EST up reply actions

I can’t root for these Cardinals.

by JJinPA on Jan 18, 2009 6:47 PM EST reply actions

We have a mostly young team

We will be in the playoffs next year if we stay healthy and keep all our people.

Disappointing loss but we fought hard. Next year we win it all.

by Sabonis4Ever on Jan 18, 2009 6:47 PM EST reply actions

Secondary isn’t that young…and they still need a WR threat that’s real and westbrook will not last forever

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 6:48 PM EST up reply actions

ONly Dawkins is old. Everyone else is under 30 correct?

by JasonB on Jan 18, 2009 6:53 PM EST up reply actions

The defense can only get better. A few tweaks on O and we’ll be fine.

by Nah_Roots on Jan 18, 2009 6:48 PM EST up reply actions

The WR tweak isn’t small and it’s been needed for YEARS

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 6:49 PM EST up reply actions

I guess you didn’t watch the game today. The WR’s, TE did great.

by Nah_Roots on Jan 18, 2009 6:50 PM EST up reply actions

If you talk to people on here

Everyone did great…..

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!

No one said that – take off your anger glasses

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 6:51 PM EST up reply actions

C’mon…stop acting like the offense cost us the game. You just love to hate McNabb and play the oh-so-old # 1 WIDE RECEIVER card.

by Nah_Roots on Jan 18, 2009 6:51 PM EST up reply actions

They certainly didnt WIN the game

by fleeb on Jan 18, 2009 6:52 PM EST up reply actions

Your acting in the heat of the moment again

by AusEagle on Jan 18, 2009 6:56 PM EST up reply actions

Did you see what Larry Fitzgerald did?

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 6:51 PM EST up reply actions

Did you see what Jackson, Celek, Avant, and Curtis did?

by Nah_Roots on Jan 18, 2009 6:52 PM EST up reply actions

How glew is still on the roster(much less thrown to) boggles my mind

by fleeb on Jan 18, 2009 6:51 PM EST up reply actions

Young team? Have you seen the oline?
We were supposed to come back strong in 2005 as well…

by fleeb on Jan 18, 2009 6:49 PM EST up reply actions

Regarding the Eagles/Mets comparison and What needs to be done.

The Eagles are not the Mets. They are worse. At least the Mets go out and spend money on their holes. We’ve needed a Short yardage back since the beginning of the Championship runs. We need a Number 1 receiver, Jackson and Curtis are both slot receivers. I’m convinced if we still had T.O we would have a ring by now. This formula just is not working and its been that way since the McNabb era. Get rid of LJ Smith and make Celek the starting TE. We lose the same game every year and can anyone name the last time McNabb drove us down the field in the closing minutes of a game? This goes back to the superbowl with the shitty time management. I’m sorry to say but Dawkins is done, Reid and Morninwheg should be on their way out and McNabb is a tossup. He would be the MVP of this league if he had a decent RUNNING GAME.

by QUEENS5 on Jan 18, 2009 6:52 PM EST reply actions

Ahhhhh…the cop-out eagles fan fix-all.

by Nah_Roots on Jan 18, 2009 6:53 PM EST up reply actions

Eagle Fans......

Although I love to hate your team ever since the Miracle in the Meadowlands, gotta give your team props. I know it sucks for you guys to lose today but, you had a GREAT run. I still think the NFC East is the best, & most competitive, division in football, even though we all fell short of the Super Bowl. See you guys next year!! Good luck & God Bless.

18-1, oops!!!!!!!

All You McNabb Haters...Now's your time to shine...

Our “D” gave up 32 points and played like PUSSIES
Akers kicked like he never played before in his life
Curtis drops a PERFECTLY THROWN ball…

I’m surprised someone didn’t BLAME mcnabb for not covering fitzgerald better

I can’t wait to read the news blogs and papers tomorrow…

by damonmoore43 on Jan 18, 2009 6:52 PM EST reply actions

You are doing the same thing you complain about in the post – crying about a storyline that isnt there. No one is stringing up mcnabb here.

by fleeb on Jan 18, 2009 6:54 PM EST up reply actions

Some people are calling out McNabb like the eagles LOST the game on that last drive (the 2 minute one – not the last play one) – without acknowledging the come back or the many other factors that led to the loss :)

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 6:55 PM EST up reply actions

Well I think they have a valid point – Mcnabb has never come back on that final drive and led the team down the field to victory, and by god hes certainly had plenty of chances.

by fleeb on Jan 18, 2009 6:57 PM EST up reply actions

Except that if the defense showed up early – or the refs made the right calls – or akers didn’t suck – there are a lot of ‘points’ at which this game turned – and even that last drive – it’s not mcnabbs fault that the receiver got tripped and the ref ignored the call…

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 6:58 PM EST up reply actions

he didnt' get tripped!

dammit! curtis dropped the ball – it was PERFECTLY thrown

by damonmoore43 on Jan 18, 2009 6:59 PM EST up reply actions

Everyone, including Troy Aikman thinks it was pass interference – you don’t.

You seem to think I’m blaming McNabb – I’m not – do you make money off McNabbs Q rating or something?

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

you can complain about those things in every football game man…thats the sport. It is very telling that mcnabb has never triumphed over all of those factors but other great quarterbacks have(manning brady for example)

by fleeb on Jan 18, 2009 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

This sounds a lot like the RISP debate in baseball…small sample size just begs to be called up here

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 7:02 PM EST up reply actions

it's not pass interference...

no one is implying that you blamed mcnabb for the pass interference…

but it’s on CURTIS
thats the point of the post – it’s on curtis — got nothing to do with mcnabb – the throw was on target…

it aint about the REFS or AIkman – no one but curtis and the ball

by damonmoore43 on Jan 18, 2009 7:04 PM EST up reply actions

And no one said the throw wasn’t on target – I’m not sure why you’re freaking out over things people aren’t saying

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 7:05 PM EST up reply actions

jemagee -

all i have been saying – is that curtis has to catch the ball – that’s it

give it a rest with the ’reply’s’ – i didnt say your blaming mcnabb

all i said for the 100th time is that curtis has to catch that ball with the game on the line

by damonmoore43 on Jan 18, 2009 7:06 PM EST up reply actions

As much as McNabb came back

He had a lot of erratic and off target throws

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!

by Joe_D on Jan 18, 2009 6:54 PM EST up reply actions

Unlike the other QBs in the NFL who only make perfect passes every time they throw the ball

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 6:55 PM EST up reply actions

oh yea, i forgot to mention that Westbrook gets a pass again!

YAYY! westbrook can’t be criticized because poor westbrook was hurt again…

running game was non-existent for the postseason

warner would be out of the league if he had to throw to curtis, baskett and jackson all season….

fitzgerald, boldin and breaston have single handedly extended his career

by damonmoore43 on Jan 18, 2009 6:55 PM EST up reply actions

I'm out guys

It was an honor posting with (most of) you this season.

by ajay on Jan 18, 2009 6:54 PM EST reply actions

McNabb single-handedly kept the EAGLES in this game...

we should have been blown out

YES. He did miss 4 throws….he completely missed them. 4!

If Curtis catches the ball, no one says SH*T.

McNabb put the team on his back with NO RUNNING GAME TO SPEAK OF.

but he will be mauled tomorrow….MAULED

Can’t know what story line the talentless hacks of the philadelphia media are going to choose to write about

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 6:58 PM EST up reply actions

too bad they dont hand out rings

for ‘keeping the team in the game’

enjoy your zero td first halves

by fleeb on Jan 18, 2009 6:59 PM EST up reply actions

people are just irrational on this board

no run game

no D

a missed FG

and you want to blame #5?

no wonder the national media hates philly fans

by damonmoore43 on Jan 18, 2009 7:01 PM EST up reply actions

It seems like you’re the one being irrational as most people aren’t blaming McNabb – yet you seem to think they are.

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 7:01 PM EST up reply actions

I do not know who to blame….when you are down 18 points at the half the ‘run game’ certainly is not going to win it for you – i know that.

If you want to bring up issues with Reids coaching and personnel decisions I will gladly have that debate.

by fleeb on Jan 18, 2009 7:02 PM EST up reply actions

Run Game

Needs to be Highlighted. But it was denfence that costs us today

by AusEagle on Jan 18, 2009 6:59 PM EST up reply actions

great 2nd half. too bad the game is 60 minutes.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

by BrianS on Jan 18, 2009 6:57 PM EST reply actions

We were playing with House money-We should be proud of our Eagles

We had a 5% chance on week 16 to make the playoffs.
Not bad for 5%… we were two minutes away from the Superbowl.
Like Brian said, too bad the game is 60 minutes.

Well

Fitz is a beast. We didn’t adjust to him in time and we didn’t run well. It really is that simple.

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 7:06 PM EST reply actions

Did anyone else think that 4th quarter TD to 10 was a dead ball before he threw it? The lines just seemed to have let up and I was sure there was some flag down until they flashed touchdown on the screen.

by fleeb on Jan 18, 2009 7:07 PM EST reply actions

I did notice that it seemed like the offensive line did such a great job that both sides of the lines just sort of gave up knowing McNabb was ‘free and clear’ for now :)

I thought it was just great blocking

by jemagee on Jan 18, 2009 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

yeah

Mcnabb had a lot of time….

Warner did more with less

yeah i mean i realize that now, but my joy was so amplified just because even after desean dragged it in i figured it was an after-the-whistle-nba-free-shot type of thing

That joy was incredible.

what could have caused the whistle to blow?

by damonmoore43 on Jan 18, 2009 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

Oh nothing, just the players were moving made it seem like there was a whistle blown.

MGM was really annoying!!!

OMG, really I know that I shouldn’t start a post out like that but it is the only thing I can think of. The MGM was full of Cards fans. Last week it was full of Eagles fans!!! Well. it went really bad and I don’t have the time to write what I really feel.

Well I won a bunch last week and lost a third of that today. I can’t really fathom why we couldn’t stop the run of the Cards when we stopped AD and the Giants.?? Does anyone know??

Well Dmoney played great for a quarter and our d was terrible most of the day.

I’ll hit you guys up next year… I hope we can sign some more impact players and that Dawk and Thomas come back….

It’s been great fighting over trival shit for the last year… Love yous guys…. LATE!!!!

EAGLES 1/10!!!!!!!!!

I’m curios – any word on why Boldin tried to take out his offensive coordinator late in the game?
