Akers sets field goal record
Philadelphia Eagles kicker David Akers set a National Football League record by registering his 17th-straight playoff field goal in Sunday's game against the New York Giants.
Akers established the record with a 35-yard field goal midway through the third quarter of the Eagles 23-11 playoff win.
It was his second of the game and sixth of the playoffs. He kicked four in last week's 26-14 win at Minnesota. The 10-year veteran entered the game with 25 postseason field goals and is third on the all-time list.
Talk About a comeback player.

the real question is do we trust the blocking in front of him to not give up the FG block and a TD return.

No we do not

does anyone remember
when we started doubting Akers? was it 2005? 2006? When did the “automatic/we never have to worry about missed, blocked FGs,” wear off?
I don’t remember a specific moment. It seems like his trouble started w/injuries in 2005 and he never regained his “automatic” status…but I also know that he lined up for a long FG against Dallas in September, and my friends and I just KNEW he had no shot at making it (he didn’t.).
He seems to have recovered nicely, though and hit some FGs for us lately (including at the Meadowlands, where he usually struggled). I mean, the 50-yarder at the Linc in December vs. Dallas? I didn’t think he’s make it (and it was the perfect low-risk situation to try it) and he nailed the crap outta that.
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.
I think we show make him a gunner on punts. He’s got more tackles than G-Lew!
I bleed green and I piss silver and blue
He's gained my confidence in him back
I was talking crap about Akers sinc 2005.. his booting them LONG and very accurate. There’s something on his balls now that look so much better than in years past (ok that came out bad).
