Around SBN: The Worst Team Ever Projected?

Ranking the NFC title games

Sorry, this is to balance out all my overconfident thoughts of the Eagles winning it all. If you have similar issues with superstition, feel free to join in.

I'll be honest. As far as the Cardinals, the Eagles SHOULD win this week.

If they were to lose, where would the disappointment rank?

I think my feeling is close to general consensus: The Rams were the better team in '01. Against Tampa Bay, we owned them to that point, that one hurt. Against Carolina, that Eagles team was banged up all year and in that game (Westbrook out, McNabb hurt, etc.) and sorta played over its head and maybe wasn't the better team, but that doesn't lessen the sting.

However, if the Cardinals were to beat the Eagles here, that might top them all. This year has a "destiny" feel since Week 17 and the Cardinals are even more beatable then we thought Carolina was at the time.

Would it be the worst disappointment?

I'm not even sure I can rank them.

I dunno man. I don’t think we should overlook the cardinals. They are on just as much of a high emotionally if not more of one. They disassembled what I believe was the best team in the NFC playoffs after most people thinking they would be a one and done team that didn’t even deserve to be here because they only managed 9-7 in the lowly west. We just beat our bitter rivals after everyone pretty much wrote us off right before playing this cardinals team. We are pretty much the team that started the “the cardinals are not for real talk” because prior to playing us kurt warner was "a lock " for league mvp. This is a classic trap game they want us as bad as most of you want baltimore(i would personally rather see pittsburgh). I hope this team does not overlook AZ with aspirrations of what is sure to be a tough battle in tampa. That being said something has to be said for the leagues 1 2 and 3 defenses all making the conference championship games

I am absolutely not looking past the Cardinals. They are playing great ball right now too and beat a Carolina team that I thought was going to the Super Bowl.

But nothing good can come from me thinking about this question.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

Past NFC Title Game Losses

1) Bucs – last game at the Vet, D was dominant that year, Ronde Barber
2) Panthers – Eagles looked lifeless, injuries were a minor factor, Pinkston, Thrash, Ricky Manning
3) Rams – Rams were CLEARLY the better team, “Greatest Show on Turf,” Eagles overachieved that year because of McNabb, lost by 5 with a chance to win at the end.

I think I would rank them this way too.

Just not sure where a loss to the Cardinals would fall in. I guess we’d have to take into account how it happened.

This one FEELS like it should happen, perfect story … but so did the last game in the Vet, so clearly that means jack to the football gods.

How I saw it

When the Eagles lost to the Rams i was a beliver that this young and coach and QB were going to get it done some day.
When they lost to Tampa I was devistated
Carolina disillussioned and bitter
NE i expected a loss
If they lose to the Cardinals they will never win a title with Reid and McNabb

now there is a contingency to them never winning a title?

just last week you were saying that McNabb and Reid will never win a title. What changed? Now there is a possibility? Did JD underestimate our coach and franchise QB ?

You just cant say they'll never win a title if they dont do it this year

For the most part, this team is young. That Defense is gonna be awesome for years to come

I agree with that. Remember, we weren’t even really supposed to be here, if not for the miracle Week 17. Everything that happens after the Cowboys game is gravy.

And yeah, the whole team is coming back for years to come, for the most part. Only guys we can’t guarantee we’ll have for too many more shots at a title are Dawkins, Tra & Runyan. Those are significant now that I mention it, so let’s go ahead and get it done now, m’kay?

NE i expected a loss

This proves you aren’t a true fan … no true fan expects a loss.

How old are you? 12?

Skipping the Atlanta win and going straight to the NE loss is glossing over what a significant achievement it was to win the NFC title. NE were a good team and we came close to beating them. I was proud to be Green that day despite the result.

If they lose to the Cardinals, I will be shattered but I will still be proud of how much heart we’ve shown this year. I’m convinced you enjoy losing just so you can have a bitch about it, winning would mean you have nothing to do for another week.

Inky asked McNabb this exact thing … and as we all could, obviously, he ranked the one we won first, and didn’t seem as distraught about St. Louis as Tampa Bay & Carolina:
