TV - Fox

Don your jerseys & fire up your grills because after 9 long months Eagles football has finally returned. It's that time when we embark on yet another season that hopefully gives us more highs than lows. The birds host the St Louis Rams today in what should a much more exciting contest than when they last met, which saw MIke McMahon lead the Eagles to a narrow victory over the Jamie Martin led Rams. Today's game features 2 former pro bowlers in McNabb & Bulger and will be the first time the Rams play in Lincoln Financial Field.

Interesting stat

Today will mark the kickoff of Donovan McNabb and Andy Reid's 10th season together. They are only the second first time head coach and rookie QB to join a team at the same time and last over 9 years as a tandem. The other tandem? Bill Walsh and Joe Montana.

Bottom line

This is a home game against an NFC opponent, specificially an NFC opponent that finished 3-13 last year. Many of the Rams' struggles last year were do to injury, but many weren't. There's not a pundit alive that are picking the Rams to win this game. Point is, as odd as it is to call a game this early a "must win" it really is. These are the exact type of games you build a solid foundation on. These are the type of games that playff teams win. There's only 16 games, which means any teams that wants to be in the postseason only gets to lose about 6 times. If you wanna win the division, you get may only get 3 or 4 losses. Losing to an inferior opponent at home would put the Eagles squarely behind the 8 ball in the hunt to reclaim the NFC East and return to the playoffs.

Prediction

Eagles 24 Rams 10

As always give your predictions, reactions, discussion in the comments! Here's to a great season of Eagles football!

[Note by JasonB, 09/07/08 12:56 PM EDT ] Reggie Brown is officially out for today. Desean Jackson starts in his place.

Jason (or anyone else) is it 12:00 over there now? So it’s one hour before the game?

Prediction

I won’t be in the thread today – I’ll be at the Pumphouse.
Given that it is opening day and what seems to me an Eagles propensity to do poorly against big spreads, I’m going to call it:
20-14 Birds
When I want to call it
35-10…
ugh

by cavortingEagle on Sep 7, 2008 12:10 PM EDT   0 recs

Buddy of mine just called me telling me to head over to the stadium he had a spare ticket … I actually hate him for this because I told my dad I would watch the game with him and I can’t back out. My dad being the Birds fan that he is told me to go but I can’t let a fellow fan watch the game by himself … I feel so torn.

by Whodie126 on Sep 7, 2008 12:13 PM EDT   0 recs

Go to the game - your dad can take care of himself

I’m watching the game by myself in a pub – I wish I were on the couch with the HD dvr and the dog…

I’m pretty superstitious so to break up tradition seems wrong to me.

I've never been to a game

Just can’t imagine giving up the opportunity.

I go to 3-4 a year this one was unexpected, that’s why I told my buddy I hated him for calling me because it was near impossible to say no. Especially since I was down in DC this morning and drove past the Ravens stadium at about 11 this morning.

Please read

If there is anyone that wants to see or listen to the game online, here is the solution. To watch: go to www.channelsurfing.net and scroll down to the Eagles game. Click on it, and it will open in media player. I’m not totally sure if this will work, but it’s your best shot. To listen: go to www.freefootballradio.com and click on Philadelphia Eagles. It will give you a list of links/stations. At least one of them will work. Simply click on every link (there are about six) until you find one that works. The last one that carried the game was 103.6. Here’s what I’m doing today. It’ll be 19:00 here when the game starts. On Friday I went searching for an internet cafe that is open until 23:00. I luckily found one, and I will be able to watch streaming video on it. So I’m heading over there in my McNabb jersey on, with people staring at me like I’m crazy. But those ignorant fools don’t know what they’re missing. It’s not ideal to be sitting in an internet cafe and paying about 10 dollars, but it’s the cheapest and pretty much the only way to catch the game. Please wish me luck that everything works out and I get to watch the whole game.
