desean jackson discussion
what we know:
- dude's fast, quick, and shifty. he's gonna be a lot of fun to watch in open space because of this
- dude knows his shit. he might not have scored a 40 on the wonderlich, but he knows how to read the field and find daylight. and his quick reads of his blockers in the punt return game makes him extremely dangerous anytime the opposition goes 3 and out.
- he's short. that makes him a hard target for opposing defenders but it also makes him a hard target for his own QB.
- he's being given the job out of the gate. it's in his hands to make sure he plays all year.
- one last thing, he's cocky. as good as he might be, he thinks he's already there. that's a dangerous attitude if you can't back it up.
what we want to know:
- about the only thing left is whether he can replicate his preseason performance in a regular season setting.
and just one more time, i want to eat the fact that i wanted malcolm kelly. i'm pretty damn happy right now that they didn't.

I like the dude, I noticed that his head may be getting a little fat, he gotta stay humble
I think that the kid needs to continue to catch with his hands, and keep finding seems in the zones. I dont think he is a deep threat, but I think he can get deep. I think he will end up with 50 catches, 600 yards, 4 TDs, 2 Punt Returns (maybe 3). I don’t think he is a number one, or ever will be. But he is a fine receiver to have. Hey, he can prove me wrong. I like him though…He just isn’t Steve Smith.

he could be steve smith if he gained 30 lbs…which wont happen….but i am very happy he’s with us….imagine if we had him AND a true number one with a healthy westbrook………We need another DE opposite Cole that offenses would fear…then i would be happy….go Desean baby…i like hime

All though, I will love to have Michael Johnson for DE.
Do you think hell be there?
I like Crabtree as a number 1 receiver.
I would be happy with either one, but would prefer a DE, so Johnson is good for me.

he's easily a top 10 player
and there’s no chance that the eagles have two top 10 picks.
johnson is more physically gifted than vernon gholston (6th overall in 2008), and his skills are much more developed than mario williams (1st overall, 2005), so he’s pretty firmly in that range.

We might be able to get one or the other
if we really wanted, I think the Eagles are probably the only team this draft with ammo to trade into the top 5. If they fall in love with a guy, I think they could probably obtain him

That worth trading Lito for.
I wouldn’t mind package both #1s to get the top 1 or 2 pick. Then trade Lito for a 2nd rounder. You can address some CB and Safety needs in round 2. You will have 2 second round picks again. Could you imagine
Jackson/ Crabtree/ Curtis/ Avant/ Basket (we would just bite the bullet on Brown and trade him for a 4th or 5th rounder for 2010. Either McNabb or Kolb will go nuts with this crew. And they are young
You can draft a Tackle and Safety in the second w/ your pick and Lito compensation.
You can draft a Tight end in the third.
after this, who cares, the rest may not make the team anyway.

for the love of god someone please tell me why people are still latching on to this “we need a ‘true’ number one wr”….. why???
raise your hand if you understand the concept of the west coast offense
i’m not trying to be an asshole or anything, but in all seriousness, for people that don’t understand how the offense works, cavorting supplied an awesome post about it (i’m pretty sure it was him). it’s in the archives though… it’s a good read and i highly suggest it.
without going off on a tangent, the west coast offense is designed to spread the ball around to as many targets as possible. doesn’t that defeat the purpose of having a ‘true number one’ wr? T.O. was really good for us to have for one reason… every other one of our wrs were pure shit. that is not the case any more. our offense is designed to get the ball to everyone, and in the salary cap era, if you’re forking out tons of money on a bunch of wrs, you’re obviously skimping elsewhere. we have solid wrs, a good (healthy) te, and great threats out of the backfield. that’s how this offense is designed to run.
we don’t have T.O., we’re not trading for Roy Williams, we’re not trading for Fitzgerald, we’re not trading for Boldin…. jesus…
this offense is more efficient without a #1 target. if McNabb stays healthy for a full season, 10 to 1 says he puts up better numbers this year (without a #1) than in ’04.

I don't think we need one, I prefer to spread the ball, I don't think we need to blow up our cap for one.
I just think that at this point, DJ is not a #1. Thats it.
