Pittsburgh Steelers at Philadelphia Eagles, Sep 21, 2008 4:15 PM EDT

Location - Lincoln Financial Field Philadelphia, PA

Time - 4:15 pm

Radio - 94 WYSP, 610 WIP, Sirius 123

TV - CBS3 (National Game)

For a Pittsburgh perspective check out Behind the Steel Curtain

Interesting stats

The Eagles have not played the Steelers in Philly since 1997. Andy Reid has a 6-2 record against the AFC North, while Steelers QB Ben Roethlesberger has a 13-2 career record against the NFC.

What to watch for

With one TD pass Donovan McNabb will pass Ron Jaworski on the Eagles all time TD passes list. With a hundred yards receiving today, Desean Jackson will become the first rookie in NFL history to start this career with 3 straight 100 yard games.

Bottom Line

The Eagles are at home. A loss here would drop them below the .500 mark. A loss here would make 2 losses to playoff teams and a win against one of the worst teams in football... See where I'm going? We need this one. The Eagles showed against Dallas on Monday night that they can play with the best teams in the league, they need to show against Pittsburgh today that they can beat the best teams in the league.

Prediction

When I saw this game on schedule before the season started, I'll admit that I was not very confident. In my head I had it chalked up as a loss. Maybe it's the explosive offensive start to the year, maybe it's all the pundits saying the Eagles are one of the better teams in the league.... but I actually feel very confident that the Eagles will bounce back with a win here. Let's hope the Birds reward that confidence.

Eagles 27 Steelers 17

One drop and one fumble in limited action.

can't really blame Hunt

he got helmet to helmet to helmet … looks like he got a concussion, not sure anyone would have held that ball.

by JasonB on Sep 21, 2008 5:39 PM EDT up reply actions

by anuj on Sep 21, 2008 5:48 PM EDT up reply actions

All we need to do is stay focused. Convert in the red zone. We got this.

by LeonSA on Sep 21, 2008 5:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Another BIG thing we will miss if Westbrook is out… his pass blocking.

That attempted block by Booker was terrible… McNabb hit… INT. Westbrook would have done much, much better.

by BFH on Sep 21, 2008 5:50 PM EDT reply actions

Does anyone get the Booker-Westbrook comparisons

Other than being quick, Booker reminds me nothing of #36. He’s more of a DeSean close than a westbrook clone.

by Luxury_Used_Vehicles_By_Braman on Sep 21, 2008 5:51 PM EDT reply actions

Pressure is insane! Wish they could have done this against the Cowboys.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 21, 2008 5:58 PM EDT reply actions

westy and mcnabb out? wtf

by JasonB on Sep 21, 2008 6:00 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe when he got hit on the interception?

by FuquaManuel on Sep 21, 2008 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions

They didn’t rule out Westbrook’s return, although it’s very unlikely.

by JasonB on Sep 21, 2008 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Now you know why I am the way I am. Lol.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 21, 2008 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Is that a catch????

I think no thats a trap right?

by Whodie126 on Sep 21, 2008 6:03 PM EDT reply actions

It’s a pick, we just wasted a timeout

by Luxury_Used_Vehicles_By_Braman on Sep 21, 2008 6:04 PM EDT up reply actions

LJ is the perennial disappointment on this team. Every year we think he is gonna break out and every year its the same shit. Can’t catch, can’t take a hit, etc. etc.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 21, 2008 6:07 PM EDT up reply actions

you can't be serious

Why isn’t Celek getting reps yet?

by keithk on Sep 21, 2008 6:04 PM EDT reply actions

Not a great day for LJ

That’s a drop in the end zone on a sure TD pass and that play where what should have been a catch turns into an INT.

by JasonB on Sep 21, 2008 6:07 PM EDT up reply actions

no kidding

LJ hasn’t done much this season… 1 td catch, but how many has he dropped or missed

by keithk on Sep 21, 2008 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions

LJ has 1 or 2 good days a year, then he disappears.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 21, 2008 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions

by Whodie126 on Sep 21, 2008 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions

I want points!

I’ll take 3 points. WHatever. Let’s get back on the board here.

by JasonB on Sep 21, 2008 6:45 PM EDT reply actions

Problem is that McNabb has been tentative in the pocket today. He’s doing that thing where he’s afraid to throw to any of his receivers before they are wide open. Maybe it is the Steelers defense, but I am not encouraged by the lack of a deeper passing game.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 21, 2008 6:46 PM EDT reply actions

I wonder if the injury has something to do with it?

by JasonB on Sep 21, 2008 6:47 PM EDT up reply actions

he did it in the last drive against the Cowboys too…not sure if that is enough to draw any conclusions, but he has looked a lot like the McNabb of 2007 these last 2 games. Not all his fault, the receivers are partly to blame also.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 21, 2008 6:49 PM EDT up reply actions

agreed. he’s regressing. but this drive is promising.

by Luxury_Used_Vehicles_By_Braman on Sep 21, 2008 6:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Letting guys come unblocked at him certainly won’t help.

by JasonB on Sep 21, 2008 6:48 PM EDT up reply actions

by Luxury_Used_Vehicles_By_Braman on Sep 21, 2008 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Of course the 2 points mean nothing score-wise. Especially if the offense doesn’t put points on the board.

by JasonB on Sep 21, 2008 6:55 PM EDT reply actions

Eagles defense has been my best fantasy player this week!

by FuquaManuel on Sep 21, 2008 6:57 PM EDT reply actions

Actually, Trent Cole got robbed of a sack on that play.

by JasonB on Sep 21, 2008 6:57 PM EDT reply actions

Every catch he’s made has been a carbon copy of that. Catch the ball, get hammered, hold on.

by JasonB on Sep 21, 2008 6:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh come on… 2 or 3 yard passes are not helping

by JasonB on Sep 21, 2008 6:58 PM EDT reply actions

Even 3 points here could be enough to win this thing.

by JasonB on Sep 21, 2008 7:00 PM EDT reply actions

I usually get real never in these tight Eagles games ...

… but I have a good feeling about this one.

IF they manage to hang on, it’s nice to know they can hang in there in a slugfest, with Westbrook hurt.

The D definitely looks more stout vs. the run than they did last week.

by D3Keith on Sep 21, 2008 7:00 PM EDT reply actions

nervous

not never. 3 here would be nice.

by D3Keith on Sep 21, 2008 7:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Let's play some more D

I’d like an Asante pick 6 to seal it.

The negadelphian side of me is thinking Chicago last year.

by D3Keith on Sep 21, 2008 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s difficult to assess this team…

One week it’s the defense, the next it’s the offense.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 21, 2008 7:02 PM EDT reply actions

agreed, but you can look at that both ways, that both units are good enough to be dominant against a good team, they just hav eto put it together at the same time.

Honestly, seems like Eagles committed to a field-position punt-a-thon a while ago.

by D3Keith on Sep 21, 2008 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions

oh man, you have to bring him down there.

by FuquaManuel on Sep 21, 2008 7:04 PM EDT reply actions

woulda been nice.

I’m betting Ben misses his boy Faneca right about now.

by D3Keith on Sep 21, 2008 7:05 PM EDT reply actions

two more missed opps on that play.

They do have Ben on the run though. Just hope he doesn’t hit a lucky one.

by D3Keith on Sep 21, 2008 7:06 PM EDT reply actions

Birds D has been forcing a lot of third-and-longs this year.

This one …. HELL YES.

by D3Keith on Sep 21, 2008 7:07 PM EDT reply actions

Holy hell, this defense is awesome today!

by FuquaManuel on Sep 21, 2008 7:07 PM EDT reply actions

Classic Jim Johnson on that play, Dawkins and Sheldon were coming.

Good for Dawk, he had a rough week.

by D3Keith on Sep 21, 2008 7:08 PM EDT reply actions

kill some clock and kick at field goal at worst.

Ben’s been having a rough day. Birds D ripped that O-line to shreds.

by D3Keith on Sep 21, 2008 7:09 PM EDT reply actions

I hate this

whenever we have a lead in the last 5 minutes our play calling goes all pussy. Keep the pressure on a TD only helps, this is ridiculous

the flipside is if they try to get fancy and throw a pick, you’d be calling him an idiot for not being a pussy and protecting the lead.

conservative, ugly wins are OK once in a while :)

Yeah, would’ve liked him to plow into the middle of the pile there.

Yeah, I prefer aggressive too, but there’s aggressive and there’s unnecessary risk/stupidty, and the 9-point lead, with Ben out and the defense playing the way it is, is smart.

I really like Asante so far.

Nice tackle in bounds.

The D has to stay aggressive here, I’ll give you that.

I could see a score and onside kick coming. I don’t like that scenario.

Fitting though if the D can close this out since this is their game today.

Now we wait to find out the extent of the damage.

Dawkins may be 34, but he is still capable of making “OH MY GOD” plays.

That was freaking awesome.

Our D was the MVP

Willie Parker 13 carries 20 yards 1.5 average long of 8
Big Ben 13/25 for 131 yards 5.2 average 0TDs 1INT
9 sacks and 2 forced fumbles and a safety

Pitt had

33 yards on the ground and 191 yards receiving, 6 points I’m impressed. Westy going out hurt our offensive roll you have to imagine all those players felt the same “HOLY SHIT” feeling we all had.

Just for the record! I called this...

After seeinging Dawks PC

I said someone would get laid out by dawkins…

I stand corrected… how about a forced fumble and a recovery on the same play at a crucial time… E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
