Pittsburgh Steelers at Philadelphia Eagles Open Thread
Pittsburgh Steelers at Philadelphia Eagles, Sep 21, 2008 4:15 PM EDT

Location - Lincoln Financial Field Philadelphia, PA
Time - 4:15 pm
Radio - 94 WYSP, 610 WIP, Sirius 123
TV - CBS3 (National Game)
For a Pittsburgh perspective check out Behind the Steel Curtain
Interesting stats
The Eagles have not played the Steelers in Philly since 1997. Andy Reid has a 6-2 record against the AFC North, while Steelers QB Ben Roethlesberger has a 13-2 career record against the NFC.
What to watch for
With one TD pass Donovan McNabb will pass Ron Jaworski on the Eagles all time TD passes list. With a hundred yards receiving today, Desean Jackson will become the first rookie in NFL history to start this career with 3 straight 100 yard games.
Bottom Line
The Eagles are at home. A loss here would drop them below the .500 mark. A loss here would make 2 losses to playoff teams and a win against one of the worst teams in football... See where I'm going? We need this one. The Eagles showed against Dallas on Monday night that they can play with the best teams in the league, they need to show against Pittsburgh today that they can beat the best teams in the league.
Prediction
When I saw this game on schedule before the season started, I'll admit that I was not very confident. In my head I had it chalked up as a loss. Maybe it's the explosive offensive start to the year, maybe it's all the pundits saying the Eagles are one of the better teams in the league.... but I actually feel very confident that the Eagles will bounce back with a win here. Let's hope the Birds reward that confidence.
Eagles 27 Steelers 17

One drop and one fumble in limited action.
Our fault for drafting a RB from Bust U.

can't really blame Hunt
he got helmet to helmet to helmet … looks like he got a concussion, not sure anyone would have held that ball.
actually
it has been pretty good to us in the past. but we used it way to much. we need to cut that one out of the playbook. scouts are all over taht one
Homo is Romo

buck could run for a start with some other teams in this league
but with westbrook on our team. his worth is sorta dimmed down
Homo is Romo
Let's win this won minus our two starting wr's, starting probowl guard, and starting all-world rb!

There is a huge difference, I love westbrook and he makes us A LOT better but we are still a good football team.
McNabb makes or WR better.
And Bucky is doing he job pretty well 4.6 rushing average and 11.3 rec average
I think maybe 1% of eagles fans + philly radio don't like mcnabb, rest of the eagles world loves him
I can’t wait until this Philly hates McNabb bs stops

Merrill said he wasn’t sure if it was catchable, but it looked catchable to me, other than that it was thrown to LJ Smith.

Nice! That kinda looked like a hybrid facemask/horse-collar.
Way to go Trent!

Dawk was right there on that, too.

$%@# Cable
I’ve got Jax/Ind here in Northern NY too, no game for me…
He had guys open on that, too.

He was rushed
Don’t think he was hit.

And this is going to stand. he had his arm under it.

Play is being reviewed?
what are they challenging?
Can’t be giving up points in the final minutes of the half like this. Ball control man. Hurt us last week too.
man you are really negative ...
the steelers haven’t scored yet and you are already giving them points?
Haha, Quick was just giving Merrill shit about Bobby Hoying.

6 Sacks, on pace to match the gints game from last year
except this time we’re on the right side

6 sacks, 9 hurries, 8 knockdowns… that’s a ton of pressure on Big Ben and his sore shoulder

When is somebody going to miss a 50-plus yard FG against us?

turnovers kill
At least we got as many as we gave. Both teams should have more points.

I fear the dreaded Lis-Franc injury. Let’s hope he’s alright.

dont be negative
he probably just rolled his ankle…i have him starting today in fantasy, does anyone know his probability of returning?
Hey guys
I’m following this on espn mobile. Liking the D so far, but I’m a bit concerned that we haven’t scored more points…yet
Does anyone get the Booker-Westbrook comparisons
Other than being quick, Booker reminds me nothing of #36. He’s more of a DeSean close than a westbrook clone.

Can someone explain to me how we got a delay of game penalty on the D?
Never heard of such a thing.

This is the game from Hell ... can we really lose McNabb and Westbrook in the same game
I’m going to turn into FuquaManuel in a minute
It’s a pick, we just wasted a timeout

you can't be serious
Why isn’t Celek getting reps yet?
Not a great day for LJ
That’s a drop in the end zone on a sure TD pass and that play where what should have been a catch turns into an INT.
no kidding
LJ hasn’t done much this season… 1 td catch, but how many has he dropped or missed
Again.. i hate the steeler!
How can mcnabb be fine at the end of the half and be out after half time?
http://vimeo.com/1590229
Been feel crummy since Hunt coughed up the ball
Thankfully our D is stepping up

WHERE THE HELL IS MCNUBB?
Cmon dude! I dont understand this at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://vimeo.com/1590229
Buck
looks good. north to south baby, picking up yards
Defense or Special Teams is going to win this game
Both defenses are playing well now.
Just waiting for the next big play.
McNabb was hurt in the last play of the half
dind’t come out initially. Kolb threw 1 pass… to LJ… for an interception…. then McNabb came back.
He’s fine. He’s in the film room now, game planning for next week.
Please focus on the players on the field.

big play
I don’t know what last week was about, but this looks like our old-school eagles D’s
I'll say it again, McNabb has looked off since the injury.
Wondering if Kolb should have stayed in.

What is up
with our offensive (pun intended) play calling? I’m not feeling Big-A’s calls in the 2nd half… or Marty’s, whoever is making them
If only the O can achieve a pedestrian level.
Right now, I’d be happy with a 1st down.
by Luxury_Used_Vehicles_By_Braman on Sep 21, 2008 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions
Ok, one more 1st down, Please!

Problem is that McNabb has been tentative in the pocket today. He’s doing that thing where he’s afraid to throw to any of his receivers before they are wide open. Maybe it is the Steelers defense, but I am not encouraged by the lack of a deeper passing game.
agreed. he’s regressing. but this drive is promising.

we better,
they’re a TD away from taking the lead
by Luxury_Used_Vehicles_By_Braman on Sep 21, 2008 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions
I usually get real never in these tight Eagles games ...
… but I have a good feeling about this one.
IF they manage to hang on, it’s nice to know they can hang in there in a slugfest, with Westbrook hurt.
The D definitely looks more stout vs. the run than they did last week.
Let's play some more D
I’d like an Asante pick 6 to seal it.
The negadelphian side of me is thinking Chicago last year.
I hate this
whenever we have a lead in the last 5 minutes our play calling goes all pussy. Keep the pressure on a TD only helps, this is ridiculous
the flipside is if they try to get fancy and throw a pick, you’d be calling him an idiot for not being a pussy and protecting the lead.
conservative, ugly wins are OK once in a while :)
who do we play next week?
by Luxury_Used_Vehicles_By_Braman on Sep 21, 2008 7:22 PM EDT reply actions
one game at a time
that’s my motto for this season… I’m refusing to look ahead past the current game on hand.
by Luxury_Used_Vehicles_By_Braman on Sep 21, 2008 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions
Our D was the MVP
Willie Parker 13 carries 20 yards 1.5 average long of 8
Big Ben 13/25 for 131 yards 5.2 average 0TDs 1INT
9 sacks and 2 forced fumbles and a safety
Just for the record! I called this...
After seeinging Dawks PC
I said someone would get laid out by dawkins…
I stand corrected… how about a forced fumble and a recovery on the same play at a crucial time… E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
