What bothers me most about McDougle
This is what bothers me the most about McDougle. Eagles knew that McDougles has been beating Thomas in practice during preseason, but still cut him. Now he will help those stinking Giants beat Thomas. You know that man can beat you, you know that NY is waiting to see what you cut, and you cut a player that can help them.
We should have cut Clemons, he is least likely to hurt us. McDougle can hurt us. I hope he doen't this year.
Below are some articles spelling out the McDougle situation.

McDougle has shown improvement as a pass rusher by beating Tra Thomas every now and then, but he never does anything during the regular season. He does just enough to get by

Breaking down the Eagles' practice squad
September 1, 2008 5:53 PM
Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley
Daily News beat writer Les Bowen does a nice job breaking down the Eagles' practice squad -- if you're into that sort of thing. Kudos to Les for banging the drum on this Jerome McDougle-to-New York scenario for the past couple of weeks. It came to fruition Sunday, and I think the Eagles will regret the move.
Why would you ever want to help an NFC East rival? They had to know the Giants would be waiting for McDougle.
I do think the Eagles were pleased that cornerback

It’s Jerome McDougle we’re talking about here. Do we forget what this guy has hasn’t done over the past 5 years?

No worry about McDougle
McDougle is no better than a videotape of Thomas…
If we are talking about “spying” than, we have Tank Daniels…will he break-up the code for Giants?!….I don’t think so…

I didn't evan think about the spy part. I just read a lot of reports that McDougle has made
Thomas look bad in practice this year. Yeah, I agree with you JasonB, its just McDougle, but thats how it starts. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Jerome start by the end of the year and have 9 or 10 sacks. 1 or 2 vs the Eagles. I don’t think that this is unreasonable to expect from him, being his preseason play. But who knows, maybe he is just a practice guy and sucks during game time.

you expect McDougle who has 3 career sacks to have 9-10 this year?
I would have liked to keep him because he played well in the preseason and you never like to let a division rival get a decent player but in all honestly McDougle being a Giant is not going to keep me up at night.

remember Derrick Burgess
Same deal, he was always hurt. He only played well just before we left. And he did well gor Oakland. You can’t base everything on the fact that he doesn’t have much sacks. The man was playing flat out good. I don’t see him getting 16 sacks, but if Juqua Parker had around 6-8 sacks last year, I think McDougle should easily get that. They guy is already gonna be competing to start in NY with no Osi. Spags liked him, and NY was gonna draft him.
He will have his chance. I hope I’m wrong.

Derrick Burgess > Jerome McDougle
First Jerome is 30 (as well as Burgess) but Burgess was only 27 when we released him. Burgess had 6 sacks in his rookie campaign and then missed the next 2 years to injury. When returning he never quite got back to form.
Jerome McDougle has had a total of 3 career sacks in 5 seasons only 3 of which he has played and never played an entire season. Yeah there is a shot that McDougle blows up this year but I’m leaning towards him not. I think the Eagles gave him plenty of chances and I honestly thought he played himself on to our roster this preseason but it looks like the Birds just don’t have any more faith in him.

Burgess
Burgess didn’t return to form because he was moved out of position to right defensive end with the arrival of Jevon Kearse, who played left defensive end.
When the Eagles moved Burgess back to left defensive end for the 2004 playoffs he responded with 2.5 sacks in 3 games, part of why Oakland gave him so much money. His potential was obvious and huge, as shown by his 35+ sacks in the past three years.
The Eagles couldn’t keep him because with Kearse signed to big money for a few years, they could justify Burgess also being signed to big money and either being stuck in an ineffective position (right end) or being on the bench behind Kearse. In 2005, the Eagles also had very little cap room due to the locking up of Brown and Sheppard, resigning Trotter, the need to extend Westbrook, McNabb and Owen’s salaries, and Kearse’s sucking up the cap space.

I supposed there is no perfect example. Just that we knew that Burgess
showed flashes, but was always hurt. Eagles did want to resign him, But Oakland went nuts with his contract. They obviously saw the potential with Derrick. New York only gave Jerome 1 year, 1 million, which is chump change.
I think we kept Howard because he gives you two positions. You could go light at DT. This helps to keep GLew on the roster. I agree that they had to cut McDougle if they thought is was important to keep 5 DT, 6 WR, 5 Safeties. This also shows you how important they feel JR Reed is to the team. They need him here incase Dawkins gets hurt again.

It's no coincidence
that Tank Daniels ended up as a Giants linebacker last year.
Steve Spagnuolo is the Giants Defensive Coordinator. He spent 8 years working under Jim Johnson before he took over the Giants D last year. For all intents and purposes SS = JJ, both have a couple of new wrinkles, but it’s just personel moves here not “spying”

You guys gott give the Big Blue View (NYGiants site a glance)
They are thrilled to have McDougle, they are acting like they just signed Reggie White. That sucks that he had to go to NY, I don’t know why we didn’t just trade him to the AFC for a 7th round pick or something. BAD decision bye Eagles. We seem to be making a habit of making our competitors better. First TO, now McDougle. Whats next, Dovovan to Washington. or BWest to Dallas.. When does it stop.

Man, he must have fell off at Kansas City. I guess the Eagles were wright by cutting him. I though
he was better than Graham. Right about now, they both suck.

Eagles Scouting
Most teams around the league are like this when it comes to ex-Eagles. The Eagles uncover an enormous amount of NFL caliber talent in the draft and undrafted free agency compared to most other teams.
Although people don’t like to here it given the lack of championships, Reid, Heckert, Banner, and Modrak have been a remarkable combination in finding talent from 1996 to present. The Eagles are a net exporter of talent to the league, producing many more free agents going out from the team than they take in.
There are currently 22 ex-Eagles signings on other NFL rosters:
Hollis Thomas, ND Kalu, James Thrash, Allen Rossum, Brian Finneran, Bobbie Williams, Derrick Burgess, Tony Stewart, Artis Hicks, Raheem Brock, Michael Lewis, Scott Peters, Jerome McDogule, Jeremy Bridges, Rod Hood, Justin Jenkins, Thomas Tapeh, Matt Ware, Matt McCoy, Scott Young, Pat McCoy, Rashad Barksdale, Jeremy Clark, and Marques Murrell.
There are also 11 ex-Eagles aquired via Free Agency, Waivers, Trades, etc. on other NFL rosters:
Al Harris, Darwin Walker, Hank Fraley, Sean Morey, Mark Simoneau, Terrell Owens, Jevon Kearse, Donald Strickland, Jeff Garcia, Donte Stallworth, Takeo Spikes.
By way of comparison, just 13 Eagles players and 4 practice squaders who came from other teams, and some of those players were essentially developed completely by the Eagles like Baskett, Hanson, and Akers.

You forget the Rossum days?
He was a great punt returner for us, and a solid dime back.

Interesting fact: Every team has players leave and play for other teams.
