Keyshawn
I thought Key would be on TO’s side and it looked like he just couldn’t wait to defend him and then he had the best thing to say. When Key starts turning on you because you are full of yourself…well.

Wow, the absolute greatest thing I’ve ever heard regarding TO:
“You have to realize TO… we’re never going to love you as much as you love yourself. It’s just not going to happen.”

TO?
I can’t believe the audacity of analysts who sit there and tell TO to drop it; when everyone knows it would be old news if they would stop promoting every Philly/Dallas match-up as ‘TO vs McNabb’ . TO is actually just giving them exactly what they want, if the subject didn’t get him airtime he would find so other bullsh!t to talk about.

The problem is ESPN and local mediots (both DAL and PHI) who won’t let it go.
If T.O. has “No Comment”, then he’s a jerk. If he tells the truth, he’s a jerk.
So he feeds the jackals and tells his side of it. He’s admitted he could’ve handled things differently. But what nobody wants to hear is how petty and jealous McNabb was of T.O’s popularity. When Owens did the 2005 interview & said the Eagles “would be undefeated if Favre was my quarterback”, DMac never got over it. The problem with that is, Owens had a point. Philly was playing .500 ball at that point because Donavan was playing hurt and it was hurting the team. After that, McNabb divided the locker room and the team crumbled, getting swept by the East and going 2-8 after October.
I’m glad that Lurie/Reid handled the situation so badly. If they would have simply reworked TO’s deal he never would have come to Dallas.

I don’t think you said one thing that wasn’t speculation.
And give me a break, T.O. signed the contract and got a huge signing bonus one year before he asked for a new one. Reworking the deal the year after he was injured was a ridiculous request, and he handled it immaturely. If T.O. was having media circus’ in front of his house in Dallas I think you would be singing a different song.

I never said Owens didn’t act like a jackass.
My point is, McNabb was made out to be some “victim” in this and he was part of the problem. Who knows what Owens was thinking when he signed that deal? But at that point it didn’t matter. Contracts are reworked all the time in the NFL. By then, McNabb was pouting and not speaking to him and management was forced to choose “sides”. Even if they wanted to pay Owens more and keep him around (and happy), the face of the franchise had his feelings hurt.
What speculation? All of this TO/McNabb “personal” stuff came out after the ‘05 season. And any NFL fan knew that McNabb wasn’t effective playing hurt. And they DID go 2-8 after starting 4-2. You’re going to defend your franchise, but they screwed the pooch on this one. You never played like a defending NFC Super Bowl rep after they suspended Owens. You think Detmer or anyone else had a chance without Owens in the lineup? After Week 8 in ‘05, the Eagles lost 6 games by one touchdown or less…If Owens would’ve been there instead of at home you would’ve never gone 6-10. But McNabb had to be coddled, even though he was headed to the IR.
It took 2 to ruin that marriage, not one. TO measures love by the thickness of his wallet. In return for that love, he’ll run through a brick wall for you. Philly’s biggest mistake was not recognizing this. He’s been a productive, perfect teammate in Dallas because he’s not threatening to Witten or Barber or Romo or Ware. They’re amongst the league’s elite at their position as he’s among the top receivers. They don’t care if Owens is getting too much “face time” as long as he performs on Sunday.
Finally, Owens played like a champion with a screw in his leg. McNabb puked.
See you tonight!

no your right just throw money at it ... what a joke.
It took 2 to ruin that marriage, not one.
No actually it took one, TO was running his mouth and that is why this happened. McNabb didn’t say shit and wouldn’t have and they could have been better than Manning and Harrison but TO was jealous and wanted more money.

Aren’t you leaving a few chapters out?
Ask Bill Parcells if TO was a model citizen in Dallas. Ask Drew Bledsoe. Ask the WR receiver coach he stopped talking to in mid-season 2006. It’s always the QBs fault or the coaches fault for how he was used. He’s not one to take any accountability. It’s ALWAYS someone else’s fault when we’re talking TO.
Sure, he’s happy in Dallas. Jerry Jones took his side over the hall-of-fame coach’s.

Brian,
Would that be the blowhard HOF coach that struggled to break .500 here and totally whiffed on 2 out of 4 drafts? Parcells hasn’t done anything since ‘90 except bore people with his stories about how great his Giants teams were. He stole money while he was in Dallas. I’ll trade you Bobby Carpenter right now for a carton of cigarettes.
Any thinking Cowboys fan chooses “the player” over the New Jersey Con Man.

Didn’t same blowhard coach bring in Owens, who has won nothing with them?
The Eagles have won more without Owens in the last two years than the Cowboys have won with him… Pretty telling fact IMO.

Jason, you might need to clarify and tell him your talking about postseason games…

What Math Do They Teach You?
The owner brought in Owens.
I’m sure somewhere 13+9 (DAL) is less than 10+8 (PHI)…their records over the last 2 years.
The Eagles have won 13 games in a season once in 75 years and T.O. was on your roster.
foos, I’m fully aware of our last playoff win. It was in Super Bowl XxX, our 5th win in 8 trips.

What matters
If regular season wins matter to you… then fine.
As far as meaningful wins…
Since TO left the Eagles won the NFC East once and won a playoff game. Since he’s been with Dallas they’ve won the division once and no playoff games.

And what did you expect from the blowhard coach? He took over a team that was floating in the toilet. Personally, I think he did a good job of drafting quality players that your team is now built on. You’re not going to hit every draft and 2 out of 4 aint bad. Say what you want about the Tuna, but if he was never there, your team would probably still be performing to the levels it was before he arrived.
Man, I see both blogs errupting at some point today.
by foos05 on Sep 15, 2008 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That’s what is so funny they are winning with the team that Tuna built, he kept Romo and made him the starter when Bledsoe washed up. This man made there team and they are ready to hang him. Let Wade start from where Bill did and you guys would be what the Niners are now.

Ditka is 100% correct, TO was jealous of McNabb, not the other way around. McNabb has shared the spotlight with Westy and Weapon X, even Trotter, with no problem. TO was the one with the issue and that is why he is gone and McNabb is still here.

Handled it badly? I really think you should lay off the crack. So every time some player decides that they think they deserve more money, you would want teams just to roll over any pony up? You do realize the NFL has this thing called the salary cap right?
Yeah he admitted he could have handled it differently but he can’t let it die at that acn he? Ever notce how Reid, McNabb or anytone else on the Eagles handles a question about Owens? The response is something to the point of, “He’s not here, he’s in Dallas. Things seem to be going well for him, and things are going well for the Eagles too.” Ever notice t he reporter who asked the question lets it go at that? It’s not like they turn around and say, “Really? Are you sure? You don’t harbor any ill feelings towar T.O.? Do you think you’re better without him?” No. They let it go.
T.O. is all about T.O. and whatever he can do to stay in the spotlight. I thought he may have been changing when he started admitting that he could have handled the situation differently. Now he’s bak to saying, “I didn’t do anything wrong” and coming up with all of these crazy blurbs suggesting that everyone was jealous and he was too big for McNabb, and of course he was too big for the city itself and blah blah blah.
T.O. expected everything to revolve around him the second he got to Philly. The first few months he was a big deal, but I don’t think he ever got to the level that he thought he would. He assumed he’d be the face of the team and that was never going to happen. He started his little two-year old shitfest to bring attention to himself. That’s all it was.
You clowns love having him there so much. T.O tells all of you how much he loves Romo and that they get each other. It’s the perfect Brokeback Mountain story. If something ever happens on that team and you go on a streak where you loose 4 or 5 games, or Romo’s play goes to shit, who do you think is going to be the first one to call out his teammates and slam the coaches? T.O…. Especially since he now has his lovely new shiny contract. At some point he’s going to turn on that team and it’s going to be hilarious.

Just last night Ben Rothtoomanylettersberger dodged 3 consecutive questions about his shoulder just repeating “the O-Line did a great job” and I thought it was great. If they ask you a question and you don’t feel you need to answer it or already have just say something generic and bob and weave no one will call you a jerk, especially 3 friggin years after the fact.

Playoffs
I just thought it would be interesting to note that…TO has won exactly ONE playoff game since he played with Steve Young and Jerry Rice. They won that 2002 great comeback against the Giants.
And if you remember in that game where he had the great catch at the end of the game to win it against the Packers (I think 98) he was the one that was losing that game for them with two big drops and a huge fumble.
He did not play in any of the playoff games that the Eagles won in 2004 until the Super Bowl and they lost, Keyshawn mentioned that. The point is that he has been this ‘great’ receiver on good teams and has nothing to show for it. One playoff win when he has been the number 1 receiver. That’s all.
