Eagles add Hefney, cut Arrington
The Eagles made a change to their practice squad dropping CB Kyle Arrington and signing DB Jonathan Hefney.
Hefney is a smallish safety out of Tennessee who was also an accomplished punt returner.
The Eagles have stocked up on extra developmental return men in recent weeks. Kinda makes you wonder whether they're keeping some of these guys around in case Desean Jackson is needed to start on a permanent basis. He could certainly do both for a while, but if the kid eventually develops into the team's primary receiver then they probably won't be having hin return punts as well.
That or it could just be a random addition to the practice squad with no great meaning...

speeking of JR Reed
Im a huge fan of his now after reading the article about him on PE.com and seeing what he went through. Plus his wife is a nice addition to have around too.

I’m glad Reed made the team. His mistake possibly cost us a game in Green Bay last year, but it’s not his fault for being put in that spot.
He’s a great hitter and I thought he had the potential to be an excellent safety. His injury was quite a setback, but it’s completely amazing how far back he’s come.

As a Vol and Eagles Fan...
I’ve watched Hefney the past 4 years and saw a lot of good things. He was selected preseason everything before his senior year but failed to live up to the hype ending his college career on a somewhat disappointing note. He has good speed, instincts and ball skills but despite being amongst the team leaders in tackles, really needs to improve in that area. Often times opting to make a speed bump for a ball carrier than wrapping up. I wouldn’t expect him to make a splash as a punt returner as he was relieved of those duties last year due to a lack-luster performance for half the season.
Bottom line is he is a project, he is small but his low center and quickness could make for a Bob Sanders type of a weapon if he bulks up and works hard.
