Rumors of Eagles cuts swirling
Our pal Tommy Lawlor who was a guest of the BGN Live podcast about a week ago is reporting on his site scoutsnotebook.com that the Eagles have made their decisions and there's a few surprises.
- IN -
Tony Hunt
Mike McGlynn
Mike Gasperson ... as a WR/TE hybrid
- CUT -
J. McDougle
Kris Wilson
Matt Schobel
It would be unfortunate to see McCdougle cut after the preseason he had. On the flip side, it would be exciting for a guy like Gasperson to make the team after trying for so many years...
Official cuts must come by 6pm today.

Gasperson
seems to have come out of nowhere, i remember reading that he has horrible hands, never fought for the ball. not that i know too much about football, but IMO he looked like he knew very well how to use his 6’4, 230 frame in order to ‘box out’ the defender and puts himself in good position to receive the ball.
Gasperson seemed to have improved, and has played well all preseason.
Regarding Hunt, I have not seen enough of him at FB to form a solid opinion. Since the FB in Reid’s offense is mainly a blocker, I am not sure Tony fits here. Years ago, I thought the signing of Ritchie meant that the FB would be a bit more involved in the passing game (see Kevin Turner or Tom Rathman for examples of more traditional West Coast O FB’s), but he was used mainly as a blocker. I do not think that will change. Also, my personal opinion is that Westy is a better short yardage runner than Hunt.
Schobel and Wilson, good riddance.
McDougle, sad to see him go, I wanted to see what he could do. I doubt he will end up on the Giants though, as I can see several teams claiming him off the waiver wire, and the shittier teams get waiver dibs.
I hope they release the list right at 6pm
i'll repeat my thought about hunt
i don’t think there was ever a doubt that he’d be kept. i think the move to FB was more to get him PT and to trim a man off the 53.
i don’t think this is a long term move, but then again, drafting moats was supposed to replace westbrook, so maybe hunt was supposed to be buckhalter’s successor. if both are kept, there’s no room for him, but if buck leaves after the year, in order to become the guy for another team, hunt steps into that role.
i don’t think they’ll let buck leave, so i think hunt will play out this year, like a good soldier, and then he’ll be moved on draft day next year to a team looking to trade out of the 2nd round.

king dunlap and mike gibson to IR
the first wasn’t at all a surprise, and i guess the second isn’t either.
both were 2008 draftees.
