Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Its very unlikely we get Boldin

First off, let me preface my statement by saying, I hope we can figure something out on WR. But there are a few issues that prevent us from obtaining a WR.

There are other factors that are in play right now: Look at our 53 Man roster so far.

 3 QB    McNabb, Kolb, Feeley

 3 RB    Westbrook, Buckhalter, Booker

1 FB    Hunt (or Davis/Lawton/Collins)

5 WR   Curtis, R Brown, Basket, Jackson, Avant,

***Where do we fit Lewis**To keep him, somebody is gonna get cut***

3 TE    LJ Smith, Celek, Schoebel

2 C      J Jackson, N Cole

4 G      Herremans, Andrews, Jean-Gilles, McGlynn

4 T       Thomas, Runyan, Dunlap, Justice

5 DE    T Cole, Parker, McDougle, Abiamiri, B Smith,

*** Where do we fit Clemons*** To keep him, somebody else is getting cut.***

5 DT     Bunkley, Patterson, Laws, Klecko, Howard (Howard is playing more DT than this year, I saw him line up w/ 2nd team DT in Camp)

6 LB    Gocong, Bradley, Gaithers, Mays, Jordan, Studebaker (or Boiman)

4 CB    S Brown, Samuel, Sheppard, Hanson (or Arrington)

2 SS    Mikel, Considine

3 FS    Dawkins, Reed, Demps

1 LS    Dorenbos

1 P      Rocca

1 K      Akers

****At this point, you don't even have enough space for Lewis, or Clemons. You need Lewis now that Curtis is out*** Unless you cut from another spot (DE, LB, FS), somebody may get IRd (Curtis/Brown/Abiamiri), just to allow Lewis and or Clemons to make the team.

You are already short 2 spot to start the year, if you bring in another WR, You will need to cut or IR another play, unless you trade a current member of your roster to make the trade happen (Possibly Sheppard), Arizona doesn't want Sheppard, they have Rogers-Cromarti, Hood, and are Happy at CB. They want our pick, but we must include a player in the deal to free up roster space.

Also, your WR depth chart will be Boldin, Curtis, Brown, Jackson, Avant, Basket. After you re do Boldins deal, you basically be killing Jackons chances to play in the future. You will have Boldin, Curtis, Both under long term contracts,---Jackson gets screwed, and you still have Brown under a long term contract. And you be paying Brown a ton to be your 3rd or 4th receiver.

You probrably think, well we can trade Brown next year. First off, now body wants him. Then you may say, well we can cut him. He has a 8 mil cap hit this year, and 5 mil for next year. You take a monster hit on a cut, or trade. When ever you trade a player w/ that kinda of number left on cap, you obsorb the remaining prorate of the signing bonus all in one year. Brown is stuck on this team for 3 more years, guaranteed. His contract is killing this team.

No Boldin, No nothing this year. You need someone expendable, maybe Horn, and I hate Horn

Boldin for Brown and a pick

Problem solved. Boldin’s your #1, Jackson lines up in the slot and sometimes at #2 (at least until Curtis get well), and keep Avant and Basket. I like G-lew (sorta) but something tells me Basket is going to shine this year. Avant is a question mark to me but has more upside than G-lew.

I’m not saying we get “Q”, I’m just saying that there’s always a way to git ’er done.

Sorry, I was typing too fast

I don’t think you can trade Brown, because when Brown signed, his signing bonus was spread out through out the life of his contract. The Eagles never obsorbed the full amount of the the signing bonus on the salary cap. The CBA allow you to spread that number over years. From what I understand, once Brown is traded, what ever hang over amount that hasn’t been applied the the cap will callapse to that year. At this point, he has 8 mil in prorated Signing Bonus that has yet to hit.

It will cost us 8 mil just to trade him.

I'm not a cap guru

and you may be right. I still think that Heckert and the boys can make it happen if they get the nod from the Cards. Big IF…

Why so much hating on Brown?

Brown’s actually a pretty damn good wideout. He’s been better than most of the other WRs picked his year, and actually makes for a solid-to-good #2. He has a couple issues, but he’s on-track development wise to be a very valuable asset to this team over the course of his contract. This isn’t a guy I want to trade.

That said, I would trade him plus a pick for Boldin, because Boldin over the course of whatever contract we negotiate will probably be more valuable relative to his contract than Brown would be to his… However, I’d hesitate for that pick to be a 1st rounder, because I’m not at all confident that the value of Boldin vs. his contract would exceed the value of a 1st vs. his contract and the value of Brown vs. his.

Why the relative to contracts? We could probably keep Brown + a 1st + sign another guy (UDFA, special teams specialist, anything else if we cut someone else) with the money not spent on Boldin. Still, Boldin is so damn good, and we have enough cap space, that I would still probably pull the trigger after hesitating.

No hating on Brown, just that he cant be cut or traded do to his signing bonus

We take a 8 mil hit if he leaves. We are tight for roster spots, I don’t see how we can bring in anyone. without going light at another position.

dont listen to eskin

eskin is a fag. i hate listening to him. he never will admit being wrong. when he is, he just disconnects the caller. I can think of a bunch of times where he didnt know what he was talking about such as the time when he said there was a 0% chance we’d sign asante. As for the cuts, i think lewis and reed will go. Clemons wont be cut. He is pretty good and when he was signed, it was implying he was staying here, not fighting to stay on the team. I agree that we wont get boldin either. I think that 1st round pick will work out better next year. Our WRs are pretty good this year. Jackson in the slot, curtis and brown on the outside, and baskett and avant playing backup sounds good to me. Curtis will be out a while but i think desean will fill in nicely for him and should win the job. Baskett and avant can rotate in at slot.

Im sorry to say

but both Klecko and Reed are getting cut.

I like klecko and i think if we keep hunt at FB KIecko could be a good reserve there but he has shown us nothing there and for that last DT spot its him or Howard. The think that makes me think Howard over Klecko is that he can play DE and wioth one injury there already it would help to keep him just incase.

Now for reed we brought reed in for 2 reasons first is to be a return man but we have DJ and Demps who can do that(just from this draft) and second to fill that left over safety spot which we now have Demps for. Demps has shown alot this camp and preseason i think he wins out there.

Now with those 2 people gone we can bring in lewis and clemons.

And for room on that new receiver who ever it may be we can either cut McDougle or Cut/IR B Smith since we now kept Howard who can fill in there. I Understand that McDougle has been playing well now but its been way to long to prove us that and i think a receiver to help out far outweighs the 4th or 5th DE

Does Dorenbos do anything.....

other than Long Snap? (And magic tricks)
Maybe he can magically turn himself into a speedy WR!
I guess its typical for a guy to only LS but it seems like such a waste of a roster spot.

The road to victory!

i was thinking that too, but then i started thinking, “when was the last time we had a botched snap”… i think we take that guy for granted….
