Bring Boldin to Philly

Thi

Star-divide

Anquan Boldin wants out of Arizona, and quick.  This really should be a no-brainer for Cap'n Andy and Co.  Boldin is a top-drawer receiver.  He reached 400 receptions faster than any other player, doing it in 67 games.  In five seasons, he has 413 receptions for 5458 yards and 29 touchdowns.  His stats would probably be better, but his current counterpart is a chap by the name of Larry Fitzgerald.  He's a physical player with tremendous hands and decent blocking ability.  If the Birds were willing to make a play for Randy Moss, offering a boatload of money, then they should jump at the chance to get Boldin, who would probably come at a fairly reasonable price.

So far, with the exception of DeSean Jackson, the receiving corps has been pretty disappointing this preseason.  Dropped passes by all, plus an injury to Reggie Brown, highlights the Eagles' glaring need for a receiver that can step up and be the stud that McNabb needs to be at the top of his game and propel the team into the playoffs.  Boldin would bring the kind of offensive explosiveness through a powerful passing attack that Andy Reid covets, which when combined with the backfield of Westbrook and Booker, plus the abilities of Kevin Curtis and DeSean, would make for a scary-good offense.  Greg Lewis is a personal favorite of mine, and so is Hank Baskett, but let's face it, both are expendable.  Baskett has been working with McNabb on fade routes in the red zone, but Hank has yet to prove that he can effectively utilize his size over smaller defensive backs.  Greg Lewis makes that circus catch every once in a while, but his number is rarely called.  All things considered, a corps consisting of Boldin, Curtis, Brown, and Jackson sounds pretty good to me.

This would also be a good investment in the franchise's future.  Boldin is a relatively young player, and he would leap at the chance to perform well on a team that is definitely playoff-capable.  Even if McNabb does not stick around, Boldin would be the kind of proven playmaker that Kevin Kolb could use to build his confidence and abilities as a starting quarterback.  It would certainly make the transition process easier, and perhaps even spare the Eagles from a few seasons in the purgatory of the "rebuilding stage."

The only knock on Boldin is that he's been injured more often than the Cardinals have liked, but it still hasn't been enough to write him off as an injury risk.  Assuming the Cardinals decide to trade him, and the Eagles jump on it, they would be getting a guy that is out to prove he belongs among the Mosses and (god help me) Owenses of the league.   So please, Andy, Jeff, and Joe: get Anquan Boldin, before Jerry Jones does.  There's no reason not to at least try.

I live in Portland and have season tickets to Blazers games

No NFL team in Oregon so I had to pick one. I started following the Eagles about 8 years ago. Why? I saw Brian Dawkins play.

p.s. Here is some Sabonis

lol i forgot all about that guy , i remember when blazers played lakers in confrence finals (i think) and there was this 7’3" dude with a weird name and was slow as hell lol. it’s cool tho that you like the blazers that much, i definitly like them, not as much as the sixers tho, blazers are going far real soon. sorry about this longish comment about something that doesn’t have anything to do with football or the eagles, i’m making it worse by explaining my self but that’s alright.

That slow white guy was the only person to give shaq problems when he was in his prime

Shaq said it himself. Sabonis was the best passing big man in the game. And he could shoot the 3. Thanks for bringing up the 2000 series. I’m going to go cry now. We had two fun games against the sixers last year. Grats for them making the playoffs.

I understand all the fans wanting a top tier WR. It worked out well last time (super bowl). It is the same thing with Blazer fans, everybody and their mom wants a new point guard.

Got my tickets for the Nov. 2 game in Seattle. GO Eagles!

the only reason to trade for Boldin would be so that the Cowboys couldn’t get him, that’s it.

I was thinking the same thing this morning. You know those Cowgirls are chomping at the bit to

make a trade for Boldin. I would trade for him, just so that the Cowboys don’t get him. I hate the Cowboys, and don’t want to give them more weapons.

Now that Lito's peformed well in the pre-season

Maybe Arizona will be more open to a Lito-for-Boldin type of deal?

by Alon on Aug 20, 2008 10:27 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I would work the deal to consist of picks only. I don't think Arizona deserves Lito. They hard balled you

with Larry, I would hard ball them now that they have their tail between their legs. I would trade only 1 number pick straight up for Boldin, take it or leave it. No way Dallas is trading their number 1 pick.

i dont know

if it happens it happens but hounestly i want to see what curtis can do and i think reggie still is a solid and powerful reciver and obviosly Boldi would be our #1 so how does everyone else rank. and them if we get him its taking most of the chances away from DJ who i really want to see get a real sot this seaso

trouble

i do like boldin, but i think bringing in another player on either side of the ball that is going to demand a big contract will cause more issues with Lito. He still wants a contract, and if he sees someone coming in taking more money away from the cap, he may take huge issue. I think a fair way to handle this would be to trade lito for boldin…but i dont know if i am ready to give up lito either. The best way to handle this is to stay away from it. sure a number 1 would be great, but i think its debatable that we have 3 #2s.

by GreenInBaltimore on Aug 20, 2008 11:35 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I really don't care how Lito feels now, But I don know that I don't want to put Jackson lower in the

depth chart. I think that Boldin is a clear upgrade, and we have to goods to work a decent deal. But if we do trade for him, Our WR Depth cart will be: Boldin, Curtis, Brown, Jackson, Avant, (Both Baskett and Glew get cutt). I don’t see how you can get the ball to Jackson enough as your 4th receiver. And I think putting Brown to 3 at his money is gonna set-up a ton of problems in the future. He is paid way to much to sit on your bench and be your 3rd or 4th receiver. Again I reiterate, Browns contract is screwing this team, we can’t move that guy, we can’t even cut him for at least 2 years.

i sorta agree....

wants a new contract. has an agent we all know too well…..i just wouldnt want a cancer in the locker room. it seems we have good chemistry and a great “team” philosophy so far.

Please Make it Stop

If I hear one more Wide Reciever rumble, rumor, or request – my head might just explode.

by cavortingEagle on Aug 20, 2008 11:55 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I am kinda crossed on this issue, I really would like to see this team upgrade, I don't like

Brown a whole lot. I don’t think he is much better than Avant. I actually like Avant better. If we could upgrade Brown w/ Boldin, that would make this team Great. However I understand that the Brown Contract situation really would cause a ton of problems if we brought in another receiver. Logistacally, its too dificult of a situation, considering roster space and cutting Basket, and Benching Brown. Also, we do have to consider Litos envy issue.

It may may more than I am willing to do right now, I would work this deal if Arizona was banging down my door and would trade straight up for my first round pick. I wouldn’t give up Lito, (way to high of a price for Boldin). But than I would have to consider what to do with Lito to shut hip up for the year. And what do we do with him next year.

Way too much issues to make this happen.

+1

this whole scenario is played out … IMO Boldin is not a huge upgrade of Brown again IMO if you want to argue this pick a wall because like I said IMO.

by Whodie126 on Aug 20, 2008 1:57 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yeah b-b-but

reggie has less receptions per td! rolleyes

people are splitting hairs with these stat comparisons. boldin can make the catch in traffic/over the middle like nobody else in this league. and if we had someone like him out wide we wouldnt need to dump it off to westbrook 90 times a year.

Brown Plus the Pick

Send Reggie and the lower of the two first rounders for “Q”. I’m in Phoenix, and I gotta tell you, the phone lines are lit up on the local sports talk shows. Q is wearing out his welcome and the Bidwells don’t like to give up the greenbacks, especially to an uppity employee.

We send Reggie (com’on he’s a #2 at best) and the pick, and we don’t cut any of the WR’s. The window is closing boys, we need a legit #1 WR AND we need to keep Lito!

Never gonna happen

As much as I would like to see the Eagles upgrade at WR this deal is never gonna happen. They don’t want Lito and they are never gonna trade Boldin for just a pick and what idiot would take Brown in a trade. He is a no talent hack. Our best bet might be to add someone like Horn depending on his asking price and wait for Curtis to get healthy and use one of our first rounders on a good WR.

I was gonna ask the same thing, but was like Naaa, to each his own I guess.

Sup Queerfan, you’ll much love in BGN, as long as you root for the birds baby.

its should say ‘retardedfan’ …

He is a no talent hack.

he has better averages than Boldin and has 2 less years.

Horn is injured with the same hammy as Brown so why pick up another injured WR, are we collecting them?
