Eagles in good shape for the future

I have found myself thinking about this teams future. I and notice a few interesting senerios.

First, We have the Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb situation. Some feel that the Eagles drafted Kolb as a pure value pick with the hope of trading him in the future. My only concern with this is that if you trade Kolb, he would demand exactly what you paid for him (he is probrably only worth a 2nd rounder), and you would only trade him if you felt that you can draft a QB in 2 or 3 years that you like, and you are truley commited to Donovan McNabb.

I think the most likely scenario is that McNabb has a fantastic year, and is traded. My question is what do you get for Donovan? if Shockey was worth 2nd and 3rd round picks (and he sucks at TE), and Jayson Taylor (only has 1 year of football left in him) is worth 2nd and 3rd round picks. And Favre is either 1st - 4th round pick (for 1 year). Than Donovan after a probowl year is worth a 1rst and a 3rd round (possibly 2nd round) pick. Also by trading McNabb, you free up a ton of cash in your cap. Likely a high pick being that its from a bad team looking for a QB)

Now lets review the Lito situation, he is will not be here next year. But If I were the Eagles, I would redo his deal to pay him 4 or 5 a year (bearing in mind that McNabb is gone) for the term of his contract, I would ask him to play nickel and be happy at it. But we know this is unlikely, so we will likely trade him as well. Eagles will trade him for nothing less than a 2nd round pick. If he has a solid healthy year, he is worth it to a team looking for a corner. Heck we got a 2 for an unproven AJ Feely and an unproven Al Harris in the past. Lito will get a second if he has a good year.

Now we have the perfect storm. Yes 3 first round picks ( 2 high Carolina & McNabb trade, and 1 low -Eagles pick) and you'll have 2 second round picks.

Also consider the cash you free up in the trading of McNabb and Sheppard. You can rebuild in 1 year if you like. And still have Samuel, Sheldon Brown, Patterson, Bunkley, Laws, Gocong, Bradley, Gaithers, Curtis, Andrews, and DeSean Jackson as your core. All young players. This team will win for year.

shockey does not “suck”

unless the skins go 2-14, 2008 will not be jason taylor’s last year, bet the farm on it

the eagles will never, ever…. let me repeat that.. EVER get a 1st and 3rd for McNabb

sheppard’s deal is never getting redone, hes gone next year.. whether they get the high 2nd round pick for him they wanted or if they release him after a poor year.

al harris was unproven? were you 6 years old when he was still an eagle? funny how memories fade.

i was probably about ten when we had him, and all i remember from him is that he got the dumbest penalties that always killed us….i never liked him. plus, the last season we had him, he had 25 tackles, one interception and 7 passes defended in 16 games. the next year in GB his production went up like crazy, netting 46 tackles, 3 int (one for TD) and then the next year he had 67 tackles and 28 passes defended….i’d say comparing what he was with this eagles to what he became with the packers he was uproven.

I'm not sure if you remember Al Harris very much

He was a very good Nickle corner back. We traded him for a 2nd round pick. People were talking about how we got one over on Green Bay. We knew he was good, but who would have imagined he would be one of the best corner backs in the league. Its is kinda similar to the Derick Burgesssituation, he was nice, and we let him go while showing potential.

He was kind of a bone though, I would say. Sorry to say this to you bro, if you didn’t know how good he would turn out, that kinda makes you unproven, just potential. But thats just splitting hairs in my opinion.

My man Remis stood up for me, Sorry about spelling Boldin wrong. You need to have a spelling bee with Me And GCobb vs Nick Pampani.

Nick would probrably win.

I think you live in a world of Madden, sorry to brake the news to you brother. There isn’t a person I know that thinks Shockey is worth a 2nd and a 3rd. I’ll bet the farm on that. He hasn’t produced squate in a few years now. I’m not sure how much football you have been watching. Heres a tip, if you can’t watch the game. Read the box scores.

Also, Like I said about Harris, he was very good, not yet great, and still got a 2nd rounder. If you don’t agree with my ideas, that OK. But I think you need to let go of you PS3 controller, and let down the Madden bro.

If you like the Eagles, I still have love for you, even though I don’t agree with you assessments.

Oh, and final

What would you assess McNabbs Value at? Keep in mind that he is 31, and also factor in that we are expecting a good year from him. Eagles were asking 3 first rounders, 1 first rounder and a 3rd sounds like a fair compromise to me.

Also, consider my arguement, if Taylor and Shockey got a 2, What would McNabb be worth? If you don’t think he is worth a first, you are dead wrong. I actually think that would be cheap for McNabb. And I’m not to be a homer.

let someone else post!!!! just playing … McNabb will be here forever unless he fails to perform … Kolb was an insurance policy we needed to draft a QB because Number 5 was coming off of one of the toughest surgeries to recover from. If we don’t have to go to Kolb I wont be upset … if we draft another young QB next year and eventually trade Kolb I won’t be upset … if we trade number 5 I will be upset.

I’m not positive Lito goes away everyone was sure he would be gone by this time and he is still around. That is a wait and see thing hopefully he returns to pro bowl level.
