Desean Jackson Catching with his Hands

5347_medium

I apologize in advance for posting stuff on your blog.  I'm a Cal fan and made some highlights of Desean recently for a Cal blog.  However I figured some of you might want to see them as well.

Star-divide

What to watch for:

  • Catches with his hands:  He's been catching with his body recently.  But I wanted you to see how he caught balls in college (see videos).  In college when we sent over the middle with and a defender was on his back, he was taught that should 'secure' the catch first... because he most like will be hit from the back immediately.  When sent to the outside or deep, he  always caught with his hands.  Against the Panthers I think he caught with his body due to the rainy conditions, as would any WR when it's pouring.  As for PITT, I think he just didn't want any drops.  I hope he gets back to form soon.
  • He's the best route runner we've ever had: Our coach has said this over and over again and it's pretty obvious in the film.  His brother was in the NFL and he taught Desean the fundamentals when he was still a kid.
  • Speed and moves: He takes very large strides so his legs don't seem to be moving fast, but he blows by people and gets off the line very quickly.  Of course, he has the moves to avoid tacklers.
  • There's always a double team on him:  Starting from his sophomore year, defenses have been bracketing him in almost every game.  What you don't see in this highlight is he's just as valuable as a decoy as he is as a receiver.
  • This highlight is complete: Most of you have seen DJ highlights before, but this one is much more extensive and includes his true freshman year and all his punt returns. This one will be 3X longer than any other highlight reel you've seen.

Thanks for letting me hang out and I hope Desean contributes as much to your team as he did to ours.

Nice ... Breath

breath was an excellent choice for soundtrack but didn’t expect it to play on all 4 videos lol … that’s my only gripe lol … nice tho danzig … i really appreciated the first post you put up and this is glorious , i knew about desean and was praying we were gonna draft him … everyone else wanted sweed and i was crossing my fingers for dj …. yea it was a rainy game, and at least desean made adjustments from the get go to catch all his balls …. seemed like the little bit i got to watch every other receiver kept dropping balls from the hands … then again i was working and could only see clips here and there … everyone else is finally on board with him i think … and we do owe a bit of it to you boasting him on the blog thanks man !

I hear you about the song… I’ve made HL tapes for about 10 players and they all have 2-4 parts… so that’s almost 35 songs… after a while I ran out and am now using one song per player.

Anyway, the reason I posted this is because:
1) there might be Eagles fans that are now curious about DJ

2) I want to dispel the notion he always catches with his body… when going over the middle with a defender on his back, he will catch with his body… however when going wide and deep he always catches with his hands.

Nice Vids

Nice vids Danzig is there any way that you can email these to me I would love to try and convert them and put them on my iPhone. I have wanted Desean Jackson on the Eagles ever since I saw him as a frosh at Cal and I damn near fainted when I saw ESPN cut scene to his house when we were on the clock. This kid is going to do huge things for the birds this year and if he keeps playing like he is in the preseason he should be our #1 by week 8.

Sure you just need to get a free vid account on Viddler.com

Once you sign up… then click on these links and below the videos there’s a hard drive icon… click it and you can download the original vid the way it looks on my computer. BTW, they’re in quicktime so you don’t have to convert them to play on your iphone.

If you have a PC machine, I would recommend using Media Player Classic to view .mov files. Large .mov files studder on PCs.

Having trouble

Hey danzig. I signed up for a viddler account and I clicked on the links that you provided but I do not see a hard drive button all that comes up is the button to embed and to make the video full sized. If you can help me it would be greatly appriciated.

Still having trouble

Hey danzig. Do you know if I need quick time pro? Because when it going to the screen all it does is have the quick time logo with a question mark in the middle.

You do not need QTPro… I don’t even have it. Just don’t play it with QT… play it with Media Player Classic…

LINK

What happens when you drag it into itunes?

Let me know what happens, I curious.

Can't download it

When I click the link to download the quick time version it just goes to a screen that had the quick time logo w/ a question mark in the middle.

I know it’s working b/c I logged out and tested on two diff computers. I think I know what’s happening.

Your browser is trying to autoplay it but the quicktime browser plugin is disabled. That’s fine b/c you don’t want to play it in your browser.

Instead of left-clicking on the link… right-click on it instead and choose “Save Link As”…. save it onto your hard drive and use Media Player Classic to view it.

Tell me what happens.

Danzig and everyone else !

correct me if im wrong but i saw about 6 touchdowns or atleast would of been but came up a yard or two shy ! which means you could add to his career stats and makes it even sweeter … now i dont know if any of the highlights were follow up plays for scores but i can only assume running the ball in was what happened … maybe danzig can verify this XD …

Not sure what you’re referring to… the HL reel doesn’t include all of his footage or touchdowns… in fact, I left out one of his PR touchdowns too. The stats I include at the end comes from the NCAA’s official stats.

by danzig on Aug 16, 2008 7:56 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

what im saying

is if he had 22 career touchdowns, out of the footage you compiled, i saw a few plays where he ended up 1-5 yards shy of a td, which im assuming Cal ran the ball in for a touchdown after his plays… so he had a good bit of potential tds to add to his career … this subject is going no where now lol

ah.. sorry. I totally agree and I can think of two off the top of my head… UCLA05 and WASst07… but I’m sure there are much more.
