Carolina Panthers at Philadelphia Eagles Open Thread
Carolina Panthers at Philadelphia Eagles, Aug 14, 2008 8:00 PM EDT
Thursday, Aug 14, 2008, 8:00 PM EDT
Location - Lincoln Financial Field
TV - FOX national game
Radio - 94.1 WYSP, 610 WIP
Time to take a break from the Olympics for a few hours and take in some Eagles football. The Birds take on the Carolina Panthers in their preseason home opener for the 2nd straight year in a row. The starters should play for about a half so we'll be getting out first real good look at the team this year. It should also be interesting to watch the play of Kevin Kolb who Andy Reid hinted may play the entire second half.
Remember also that the Eagles hold the Panthers' first round pick next year as a result of a draft day trade Carolina made for OT Jeff Otah. Otah should square off against Trent Cole so it will be interesting to see how he looks and really how the Panthers as a team look.
Leave your comments and thoughts on who looks good and who doesn't! We'll be talking football all night, come join us!

Those 2 incompletions and the death of the drive was all #5. He's gotta chill a bit, set his feet, and not throw the ball so high. (Both plays, he was bouncing in the pocket.)
lol, just testin the legs. bet he wants to run it really bad and got the itchies in the leg

Helps when you don’t have to jump to get it in your hands. 50% blame to Booker (you’re right about selling out for the catch) and McNabb (give the guy a chance to make the play with good ball placement. Like that throw to Curtis just now.)
he overthrow it or jackson drop it

Particularly impressive when you realize it’s a line full of backups, first time starters, and players shifting positions.
45 minutes still they start again?
guess we gotta watch shawn johnson win a gold then

Great book about the year after 99 died
Concretefield can suck it

I think the guy follwed the team hoping they’d win it all and he’d sell a lot of books… they didnt but its still a good read
Bet you could get online for like $1
Concretefield can suck it
For all those who can't see the game on TV..
Check out www.channelsurfing.net…you can watch any live TV broadcast, mostly sports, for free over the internet. It’s how I’ve been watching the olympics. They have the Eagles and steelers game on tonight.
OMG
“Here we have Misty May with a tight set”
Really? hahaha
I’d have to agree
Concretefield can suck it
Damn
Hey guys!
I´m from austria(as i mentinoned in another post) and this is the only preseason game they show! I love the eagles and now it´s a rain delay!
We have it now 3:05 am, and me and my eagles guys from austria are drunken and tired!
Does anyone know how long it will take till they start??
greetings from austria!
GO EAGLES!
is waycross, ga international jason?
bet u cant find it on a map

Waycross?
YOu mean the town that was first settled around 1820 known as “Old Nine” or “Number Nine” and then Pendleton? It was renamed Tebeauville in 1857, incorporated in 1866 and designated county seat of Ware County in 1873. Then it was incorporated as “Way Cross” on March 3, 1874.
Ahh wikipeda…
Actually this is a pretty funny stat about Waycross, GA
During the 1950’s the city had a tourist gimmick. The local police would stop motorists with out-of-state license plates and escort them to downtown Waycross. Where they would be met by the Welcome World Committee and given overnight lodging, dinner and a trip to the Okefenokee Swamp. The tradition faded away after the interstates opened through Georgia
last week
dropping the ball is what gave him the opening for the good return (which he then spoiled by tripping). Last week Demps looked strongest in the return game in my opinion. I would like to see more of him tonight and going forward.
It hit him in the hands. Curtis has to make that catch.

yes but this has been bad but still i know i really dont like it
by NickPampani on Aug 14, 2008 10:19 PM EDT up reply actions
me neither
this is a game for running, which we haven’t done…maybe a regular season game they would call more runs if the ball is so slick? doesn’t sound like andy though….he loves throwing it too much, haha
they are not running it beausewe know we have westbrook to rum but we have to test our recivers

Is it time
To think about replacing Akers? His kickoffs are mediocre and he’s been unspeakably horrible beyond 40 yards.
dont break out the pen yet
lets see if he can make it to week 17 unscathed first.

fantastic decision...
not often you throw into quintuple coverage….
lol
i do it in madden all the time whats the big deal? … :D
by joshjoshjosh on Aug 14, 2008 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions
Um, I like his confidence in thinking he can jam it between quadruple coverage . . . ?
And the fifth drop of the night.
sigh
they rarely get seperation. and when they get seperation, they rarely make the catch.
it gets so frustrating sometimes.

We need to take up a collection...
I think we need to get a few dollars and buy Curtis some receivers gloves
Andy Ried School of Clock Management
Now in session.
if the eagles are ever going to get rid of him
it will be this year
by joshjoshjosh on Aug 14, 2008 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I know! Who would believe Coughlin would sexually harass ANYTHING? He should have tried that with Belichick.

how do u fair catch in madden 09
jacckson just fumbled
umm, I made nachos with green onions, jalapeños, sour cream and tomatoes on the side.
Chad needs to hold onto that ball, but for a rook I am impressed so far.
5 drops in a half is bad, even in rain.
speaking of drops, it is hard to forgive 2 kickoff drops all year let alone 2 in the same game in a row, rain or not. Booker better impress soon on KR, or it is time to give Johnson his shot.
going to pee and get another beer in time for the 2nd half.
been awake soooooo long for my eagles!
can´t watch the second half! toooooo tired!
i´ll check in tomorrow for the final score!
hopefully kevin can get the offense going!
greez
Jackson leaves his feet on every pass and catches the ball with his body. He needs to break those bad habits if he wants to be a big-play WR.
The thing is, he is always pretty open and he likes to hide the ball because his first move is so fast … if it works for him it works for me.
Yeah, but in the time it takes for him to land and gather himself, he’s given the defender a chance to catch up. He’s costing himself YAC.
McDougle might actually make the squad. I’ll be darned.

still want to see how he fares against a first team offensive line though
but making an impact with his opportunities
2 weeks ago, if you told me that what DJ would have impressed me with so far was his disciplined short routes and his small to medium zone seams I would have not believed you.
I figured by now he would have made a few rookie mistakes, as well as a few long gains as well as a long return or 2. Instead, his game more resembles an old vet who is known as a possession receiver. Not that I am complaining, it is actually impressive to see that kind of savvy in a rookie WR.
ill tell u if dj does this in the season ill be thrilled pluss he can only get better

the west coast offense is really tough and he seems to get it

I posted this article in fanshots … smarty marty seems impressed with his ability to pick up the offense so quickly …. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/rumors/post/Eagles-s-Jackson-proving-to-be-a-fast-learner;_ylt=AvY2Doa2B4OJQ1CQ8Um.9mt.T4h4?urn=nfl,100809
i love how we are all on a first name bassis

I dont see why we cant keep 4 West primary Buck secondary Hunt 3rd down Booker multiple package situations…
At the game
Get this… My cousin from Israel and I were at the game, stayed through the entire rain delay, got soaked to our skins, left after they went up 13-0 cause we were shivering and I couldn’t feel my left hand… and as we drive away I notice fireworks and told him that means we got a touchdown. Drivin down the 76, we witness the FG and the go-ahead, and after I shower and feel my left arm again, I see we won. 24 Eagles points that we did not witness.
Thoughts:
DeSean Jackson could be a #1 receiver if he develops. His speed is obvious, but the major concern for many smaller receivers is their ability to go over the middle and take a big hit. Jackson took several big hits, and he owned the middle.
Tony Hunt should make the team. I don’t understand why we can’t have 5 backs, it’s the quantity we usually have — Mahe as a specialist (replaced by Booker), Westbrook, Buck, and Hunt. That’s what we did last year, I see no reason to bring a more talented corps back this year.
JR Reed just keeps coming up on the PA as making tackles, etc.
Book’s gotta catch his kickoffs, but man does the guy have moves.
Am I the first to use this term for a potential 3 headed monster with followed by a tail? Book Buck and Brook on the Hunt.
Asante is DAMN good, and so are Brown/Shepp.
McNabb was spot-on all night, his receivers kept dropping his passes. Kolb was similar.
Speaking of Kolb, he has a cannon-laser accurate arm, and his pocket presence is un-freaking-believable. He dodged rushers he couldn’t see (even I couldn’t see them half the time), and he’s got great mobility. I think he could start for several NFL teams today, and would solve a lot of those QB controversies out there.
Jerome McDougle!! Unbelievable. I’m really rooting for him.
