Philly Sports ...

Pretty neat article about Philly Sports, somewhat depressing too.
It brings up an interesting question. Is it enough to be a constant contender or do you need to ultimately win championships. I am personally torn would I rather the Eagles be as they have, constantly the top of the division and making the playoffs only to come up short every year (the heartbreak is tough to handle). Or would I rather them be like the Buffalo Bills and never get my hopes up (except maybe this past year).
I bring up the Bills because they had a great run in the late 80s early 90s and I'm sure most fans would give up a few of those moments if they had won a championship one of those years.
We need a championship and the KiXX or the Soul just ain't gonna cut it.

With exception of the Flyers who are actually spending money more frequently and bringing in a few bigger names at a time and giving their current star players big, long term contracts, it seems that the attitude of Philly sports in general seems to be to maintain and hope. What I mean by that is, for the most part, they try to keep enough talent around to compete pretty well and at least make a decent run at getting into the playoffs in each sport. From there, they’re kinda looking for some luck and some help from other teams to push them over the top. Basically it almost seems like their philosophy is to maintain at a level where they “should” make the playoffs almost every year and at that point hope some teams that may actually have more talent faulter a bit. Could just be me though…

For my money,
I’d rather not be the Bills. Yes they had 4 straight superbowls, but they had a magnificent downturn after that last one. They are on the comeback, and might even be the second best team in the AFC East (aren’t the Patsies lucky), but the Bills aren’t a good team yet.
I want to stay consistent. If we remain good enough to contend in the NFC East, we’ll stay good enough to contend with the rest of the league. Unfortunately that also means that there’ll be years where 10 and 6 wins the division and only one NFC East team qualifies for the playoffs – learn to love the draft I guess…

I suppose
I can deal with a short hiatus, but it was hard being an Eagle fan for the years between Buddy and Andy.
Rich Kotite anyone? Bobby Hoying?

i agree with 700 as i usually do
but i voted for being consistent … see to me “and this is just my opinion” being consistent is so much better because a die hard fan like myself cant go a day without hearing the word football and bringing up the eagles … and of course there are always nay says ! buy the majority agrees the eagles overall have been a good team for years … to me giving up 10 years of my team almost clinching the playoffs/superbowl is not worth it because in my eyes that is like being the guy who says he likes the eagles but doesnt know 3 players on the team unless they won the super bowl because if your team has not done shit for 10 years how much attention are you going to pay attention to them unless you are like all of us … you know a majority of our fan base would pack the crowds at the soul if we pulled a miami dolphins 10 years in a row … to me bringing up 10 years of embarrassment with a almost fluke like season Superbowl victory wont pay off …. i think that the deserving/desire of a Superbowl win would be so much more enjoyably to be so close to victory every fuckin year and then finally nab it !!!! then to go holy shit the bills won the Superbowl ?!!? WOOOOHOO ! ya know ? that’s just my opinion i would much rather have a team that is close to competing every year than a once in a blue moon Superbowl birth… Think about it … because when the birds win the Superbowl you and i both know … NFL fans outside of of our fan base will say that we deserved it after all this close calls and tear jerking moments we have been through … if the bills do go (which by the way i have no beef with and root for due to co-worker fans of them ) and win the Superbowl i would acknowledge it and be somewhat happy for them, but i would have the mindset of the angry co-worker who just watched the douche bag intern who just got promoted to my boss after i have been working at my company 5 years longer than him/her … i think i have made my point … gotta love captain morgan … shut up 700… concrete jungle blah blah blah lol … EAGLES Superbowl Champs in 09 !

HAHA LOL
About half way through that, i said outloud, NPK is drinking again! ( i always want to just use your real name its shorter)
First of all, what I was saying is I want to win the superbowl every year. I know it sounds ridiculous, but thats pretty much the type of fan i am. I mean, i’m not stupid, i know its not going to happen.
SO to actually give an opinion, i want a super bowl. If it means we have to be terrible for five years so be it. I wouldnt feel this way if we at least had one.
But there’s no reason we cant have both. We’ve been “a potential contender” every year since 2001. We should have won at least one superbowl (more like 2 or 3) in that span. What I’m saying is that if we win in say, 2004 we’re probably still at the same place right now with this team. Still with a chance to win it all this year
Concretefield can suck it

That's the point though
This team isn’t too different than the one that puked up the Superbowl in 2004 and you could argue that it’s better in many areas…
I dig the perennial contender…
